BACKGROUND: Sigmoid sinus diverticulum/dehiscence (SSD) is one of the treatable causes of venous pulsatile tinnitus. It can be diagnosed using temporal bone computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance angiography/venography (MRA). In cases where patients find their symptoms intolerable, surgical treatment is typically preferred. Here, we have presented a novel surgical technique involving sigmoid sinus re-roofing and have analyzed its feasibility. METHODS: Between January 2020 and July 2023, approximately 150 patients with pulsatile tinnitus were evaluated at two different tertiary hospitals...

The presentation of pulmonary embolism (PE) varies from asymptomatic to life-threatening, and management involves multiple specialists. Timely diagnosis of PE is based on clinical presentation, D-dimer testing, and computed tomography pulmonary angiogram (CTPA), and assessment by a Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) is critical to management. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology plays a key role in the PE workflow with automated detection and flagging of suspected PE in CTPA imaging. HIPAA-compliant communication features of mobile and web-based applications may facilitate PERT workflow with immediate access to imaging, team activation, and real-time information sharing and collaboration...

PURPOSE: Many rural Australian hospitals lack on-site computed tomography (CT). These hospitals often refer patients to local off-site private radiology clinics or to central hospitals, challenging the achievement of time-sensitive scans. For stroke patients, timely access to CT affects treatment options. This study questions whether on-site CT matters in rural hospitals by investigating stroke patients' door-to-scan-time (DTST) and CT scan sequence referrals. METHOD: A retrospective chart audit was completed across four rural hospitals; two with on-site CT and two without...

BACKGROUND: Dynamic infrared thermography (DIRT) is a quick and non-invasive technique for perforator mapping in free flaps that provides real-time information. After a cold challenge, areas best supplied with blood become visible hotspots on color-coded maps, indicating perforators. This study presents a proof of principle for a new and innovative feature of DIRT, where projected augmented reality is used to directly display thermal images on the patient's abdomen prior to the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction...

Cancer testis antigens (CTAs) are a collection of proteins whose expression is normally restricted to the gamete, but abnormally activated in a wide variety of tumors. The CTA, Testis specific serine kinase 6 (TSSK6), is essential for male fertility in mice. Functional relevance of TSSK6 to cancer, if any, has not previously been investigated. Here we find that TSSK6 is frequently anomalously expressed in colorectal cancer and patients with elevated TSSK6 expression have reduced relapse free survival. Depletion of TSSK6 from colorectal cancer cells attenuates anchorage independent growth, invasion and growth in vivo...

"Full moon" is a central calcification that occludes the entire vessel on coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). We examined the association of "full moon" calcification as identified by CCTA, on clinical and procedural outcomes of chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We studied patients who underwent elective CTO PCI in two European centers and had pre-procedural CCTA. The primary endpoint was the inability to cross the lesion and/or the need for extensive debulking techniques...

Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a significant cause of cyanotic congenital heart disease (CHD) encountered in childhood with few cases manifesting in adulthood. It has four classical features (ventricular septal defect, overriding of aorta, hypertrophy of right ventricular hypertrophy, and right ventricular outflow tract obstruction), but the clinical presentation and course can be variable. Due to various anatomical variations and complex anatomy, presurgical planning and postoperative follow-up by pulmonary computed tomographic angiography (CTA) have a very important role...
