Idiopathic CD4 lymphocytopenia (ICL) is a rare condition where CD4 T cell counts are low, similar to advanced human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection but without acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-related symptoms. The cause is unknown, and theories suggest issues with T cell production, survival, migration, or immune system dysregulation. Diagnosis involves ruling out other causes of low CD4 T cells. Treatment is based on managing infections and may include immunomodulatory therapies, but evidence is limited...

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this report is to describe atypical corneal complications associated with dupilumab use. METHODS: This is a series of four cases of adult patients with infiltrative or ulcerative keratitis secondary to dupilumab use. RESULTS: All four patients in this series were prescribed dupilumab for the treatment of atopic dermatitis and developed infiltrative or ulcerative corneal lesions. In all cases, corneal disease was successfully managed with immediate discontinuation of dupilumab and topical steroid treatment...

RESULTS: A 22-year-old man underwent neurosurgery under general anesthesia. CG-A (1%) was used for disinfection after the application of corneal protection tape. Postoperatively, the patient presented with hyperemia and swelling of the left conjunctiva and was referred to our department...

The purpose of this study was to describe a case and clinical course of simultaneous anterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (AC-pIOL) removal, implantation of a posterior chamber phakic intraocular implantable collamer lens (ICL), and Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK). This was a case report of a 44-year-old male with a unilateral decompensated cornea from a displaced Duet-Kelman lens on his left eye that underwent pIOL extraction and implantation of a posterior chamber phakic intraocular ICL and simultaneous DMEK...

Purpose: To report the first case of uveitis-glaucoma-hyphema (UGH) syndrome post implantable collamer lens (ICL). Methods: Case report Results: A 41-year-old female presented to our clinic complaining of bilateral eye pain and redness for two weeks. Her past medical history was significant for ICL, in both eyes and multiple sclerosis controlled with treatment. She had a long-standing history of bilateral recurrent uveitis and glaucoma. Ultrasound biomicroscopy revealed several sulcus cysts displacing the ICLs haptic into the ciliary body, leading to iris abrasion and uveitis-glaucoma-hyphema syndrome...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of rigid corneal lenses (RCL) in patients with keratoconus, based on eccentricity. METHODS: Eighty-four eyes from 84 patients were included in this retrospective comparative study. Based on the median value of eccentricity difference between the cornea and back surface of the RCL, the patients were divided into groups 1 (<0.08) and 2 (≥0.08). Visual acuity, refractive index, and corneal topography indices were compared before and three months after lens use...

Astaxanthin is an important ketocarotenoid widely used in industries. However, its application is limited because of its low yield. Sodium citrate (Na-citrate), one of the major carbon sources for microorganisms, can promote cell growth and product accumulation. The basidiomycetous red yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous was thus used to study the effect of Na-citrate on cell growth and astaxanthin synthesis. The highest biomass and astaxanthin yield (6.0 g/L and 22.5 mg/L) were obtained in shake-flask when 3 g/L Na-citrate was added at 24 h and were 1...

In recent years, there has been a surge in the publication of clinical trial reports, making it challenging to conduct systematic reviews. Automatically extracting Population, Intervention, Comparator, and Outcome (PICO) from clinical trial studies can alleviate the traditionally time-consuming process of manually scrutinizing systematic reviews. Existing approaches of PICO frame extraction involves supervised approach that relies on the existence of manually annotated data points in the form of BIO label tagging...

Mitomycin C (MC) is an anti-cancer drug which functions by forming interstrand crosslinks (ICLs) between opposing DNA strands. MC analog, 10-decarbamoyl mitomycin C (DMC), unlike MC, has stronger cytotoxic effects on cancer cells with TP53 mutation. We previously demonstrated that MC/DMC could activate p21WAF1/CIP1 in MCF-7 (TP53-proficient) and K562 (TP53 deficient) cells in a TP53-independent mode. We also found that MC/DMC regulate AKT activation in a TP53-dependent manner and that AKT deactivation is not associated with the activation of p21WAF1/CIP1 in response to MC/DMC treatment...

We describe and assess the efficiency of a novel technique of placing implantable collamer lens (ICL) footplates in the sulcus in poorly dilated pupils utilizing perioptic holes and two instruments simultaneously (Sinskey hook and ICL manipulator). Twelve eyes of 10 patients underwent ICL implantation through this technique. The technique employs a bimanual approach engaging perioptic holes in the eyes with intraoperative miosis. Perioptic holes were engaged with a Sinskey hook and pulled slightly back, while the footplates were tucked under the iris by using an ICL manipulator...

When cells proliferate, stress on DNA replication or exposure to endogenous or external insults frequently results in DNA damage. DNA-Damage Response (DDR) networks are complex signaling pathways used by multicellular organisms to prevent DNA damage. Depending on the type of broken DNA, the various pathways, Base-Excision Repair (BER), Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER), Mismatch Repair (MMR), Homologous Recombination (HR), Non-Homologous End-Joining (NHEJ), Interstrand Crosslink (ICL) repair, and other direct repair pathways, can be activated separately or in combination to repair DNA damage...

Natural language understanding (NLU) is integral to various social media applications. However, the existing NLU models rely heavily on context for semantic learning, resulting in compromised performance when faced with short and noisy social media content. To address this issue, we leverage in-context learning (ICL), wherein language models learn to make inferences by conditioning on a handful of demonstrations to enrich the context and propose a novel hashtag-driven ICL (HICL) framework. Concretely, we pretrain a model, which employs #hashtags (user-annotated topic labels) to drive BERT-based pretraining through contrastive learning...
