Taltirelin hydrate[1-methyl-(S)-4,5-dihydroorotyl-L-histidyl-L-prolineamide tetrahydrate] is a new orally active thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) peptide analog synthetized from aspartic acid. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate a history of remote head injury as a risk factor for subsequent dementia due to Alzheimer's disease. METHODS: 271 participants of a community based longitudinal study of aging in north Manhattan without evidence of significant cognitive impairment were interrogated for a history of head injury on two occasions at entry into the study. Blood free fatty acids (FFA) concentration was studied during 3 hrs after administration of I ml sunflower oil in consious normal and Brattleboro rats. Fasting FFA levels were similar in both groups of animals. In normal rats FFA concentration did not change significantly during the first 2 hrs after fat ingestion, the increase being observed to the end of the 3d hr. In DI-rats there was an increase in the concentration already to the end of the 1st hr which persisted till the end of experiment. A modified technique of total intravenous anaesthesia was used in the management of 22 patients with myasthenia gravis of varying severity undergoing therapeutic transcervical thymectomy. The relatively short-acting intravenous hypnotics, Althesin and etomidate were compared for induction of anaesthesia and for maintenance as a supplement to 50% nitrous oxide in oxygen. To determine the factors that influenced the long-term outcome of 198 patients who presented to the emergency ward with transient loss of consciousness, the authors followed them for a median of 83 months. Forty-one patients (21%) died, including nine patients who had out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest. Several cases associated with cerebral aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation have been reported in literature but such case of association with these two kinds of cerebral vascular lesion originated from the same artery in the same site is quite rare. Pulmonary and systemic hemodynamic effects of delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta 9-THC) in conscious dogs and in those anesthetized with morphine (3 mg/kg, i.m.) plus alpha-chloralose (100 mg/kg i.v.) were evaluated in this study. A decrease in the heart rate, cardiac output (PBF) and a concomitant increase in the pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP), pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and right ventricular stroke work (RVSW) observed in conscious animals following the administration of delta 9-THC were qualitatively similar to the effects reported in dogs anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital; however, unlike in the pentobarbital group, hypotensive effects to THC were not evident in the consious animals...

2 cases of left atrial myxoma are presented, with a review of the recent literature on the topic, in order to bring this rare condition to the attention of clinicians. Both cases presented to the Neurological Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital during 1978.
