BACKGROUND: Overreaching is often linked to a deterioration in sleep quality, yet a comprehensive review is lacking. The aim of this systemic review and meta-analysis was to synthesise the literature and quantify the effect of overreaching from endurance-based training on sleep quality. METHOD: The review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. The final search was conducted in May 2023 using four electronic databases (Web of Science Core Collection, MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Database, SPORTDiscus)...

This research addresses the fatigue behavior of freestanding nickel-molybdenum-tungsten (Ni-Mo-W) thin films with high-density planar faults. The as-deposited Ni-Mo-W thin films demonstrate an unprecedented fatigue life, withstanding over a million cycles at a Goodman stress amplitude ( S a,Goodman ) of 2190 MPa - nearly 80% of the tensile strength. The texture, columnar grain width, planar fault configuration (spacing and orientation), and tensile strength were unchanged after annealing at 500 °C for 24 hours, and the film endured over 2 × 105 cycles at S a,Goodman of 1050 MPa...

Recently, there has been a notable rise in the prevalence of persistent pollutants in the environment, posing a significant hazard due to their toxicity and enduring nature. Conventional wastewater treatment methods employed in treatment plants rarely address these persistent pollutants adequately. Meanwhile, the concept of green synthesis has garnered considerable attention, owing to its environmentally friendly approach that utilizes fewer toxic chemicals and solvents. The utilization of materials derived from sustainable sources presents a promising avenue for solving pressing environmental concerns...

This study examined the association between in vivo skeletal mitochondrial function and digital free-living physical activity patterns-a measure that summarizes biological, phenotypic, functional, and environmental effects on mobility. Among 459 participants (mean age 68 years; 55% women) in the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging, mitochondrial function was quantified as skeletal muscle oxidative capacity via post-exercise phosphocreatine recovery rate (τPCr ) in the vastus lateralis muscle of the left thigh, using 31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy...

The high and increasing proportion of single-parent families is considered a risk factor associated with various childhood trauma experiences. Consequently, concerns have been raised regarding the potential long-term effects of the childhood single-parent family structure. In this study, we employed advanced magnetic resonance imaging technology, including morphometric similarity mapping, functional connectivity density, and network-based analysis, to investigate brain connectivity and behavioral differences among young adults who were raised in single-parent families...

The treatment of Giant Cell Tumor ( GCT ) in the distal radius poses challenges due to the intricate anatomical features of the bone. It often necessitates the use of long implant plates or the interconnection of multiple short plates after tumor excision. However, the deployment of metal plates may increase the risk of screw loosening and various complications. To address these challenges, this study proposes the adoption of carbon fiber-reinforced PEEK (CFRP) as the base material. As a unique strategy, performance parameters (PP) were developed to compare CFRP implant plates with a Ti-6Al-4V plate using the Finite-element Method...

We describe a patient diagnosed with a metastatic adenocarcinoma of Müllerian origin, harboring a BRAF V600E mutation, ten years after being treated for a serous borderline tumor (SBOT). While BRAF mutations in the setting of SBOTs are common, they have been typically associated with a low chance of transformation or recurrence. The therapeutic approach, which combined hormone inhibition with receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (dabrafenib and trametinib), has demonstrated notable and enduring efficacy...

OBJECTIVE: Cardiopulmonary endurance is important for comfortably participating in activities of daily living. Exercise tests, such as the 6-minute walk test (6MWT), are commonly used to evaluate cardiopulmonary endurance. We investigated the effects of the Gait Real-Time Analysis Interactive Lab (GRAIL)- and corridor-based 6MWTs on functional performance. METHODS: Thirty healthy men were randomly divided into two groups. Group A participants performed a corridor-based 6MWT, followed by a washout period (1 h)...

Alcohol abuse induces various neurological disorders including motor learning deficits, possibly by affecting neuronal and astrocytic activity. Physical exercise is one effective approach to remediate synaptic loss and motor deficits as shown by our previous works. In this study, we unrevealed the role of exercise training in the recovery of cortical neuronal and astrocytic functions. Using a chronic alcohol injection mouse model, we found the hyperreactivity of astrocytes along with dendritic spine loss plus lower neuronal activity in the primary motor cortex...

Sodium nitroprusside mediates drought stress responses in tomatoes by modulating nitrosative and oxidative pathways, highlighting the interplay between nitric oxide, hydrogen sulfide, and antioxidant systems for enhanced drought tolerance. While nitric oxide (NO), a signalling molecule, enhances plant tolerance to abiotic stresses, its precise contribution to improving tomato tolerance to drought stress (DS) through modulating oxide-nitrosative processes is not yet fully understood. We aimed to examine the interaction of NO and nitrosative signaling, revealing how sodium nitroprusside (SNP) could mitigate the effects of DS on tomatoes...

Depression is a significant factor contributing to postoperative occurrences, and patients diagnosed with depression have a higher risk for postoperative complications. Studies on cardiovascular surgery extensively addresses this concern. Several studies report that people who undergo coronary artery bypass graft surgery have a 20% chance of developing postoperative depression. A retrospective analysis of medical records spanning 21 years, involving 817 patients, revealed that approximately 40% o individuals undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) were at risk of perioperative depression...

Methanol-induced optic neuropathy (MION) represents a critical public health issue, particularly prevalent in lower socioeconomic populations and regions with restricted alcohol access. MION, characterized by irreversible visual impairment, arises from the toxic metabolization of methanol into formaldehyde and formic acid, leading to mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation inhibition, oxidative stress, and subsequent neurotoxicity. The pathogenesis involves axonal and glial cell degeneration within the optic nerve and potential retinal damage...

This study empirically investigates the crowding effect of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on domestic investments in Bangladesh, utilizing annual time series data from 1972 to 2022. Initially, unit root tests are conducted with and without considering structural breaks in the dataset. This study employs the Johansen test of cointegration to investigate the enduring association between the variables and utilizes the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to accommodate this relationship over the long term. Following the estimation of the VECM, formulas about the magnitude of the crowding effect (CE) are applied to examine the impact of FDI on domestic investment in Bangladesh...
