Well-known complication associated with patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure include infection, acute cardiac tamponade, and local complications such as adjacent arterial or nerve damage, hemorrhage, and thrombophlebitis. Pelvic hematoma is rare and potentially fatal complication. This paper reports two cases of severe hemorrhagic shock within1 day after PFO closure. Both female patients presented to our department with history of headaches and were diagnosed with PFO. Both patients underwent percutaneous PFO closure from the right femoral vein...

Aneurysms of the bifurcation of the internal carotid artery (ICA) represent approximately 5% of intracranial aneurysms and tend to occur in younger patients.1-3 They typically have a superior orientation, in close relationship with the medial (branches of the anterior cerebral artery, segment A1) and lateral (branches of the middle cerebral artery, segment M1) lenticulostriate arteries (LSA), including recurrent artery of Heubner (RAH). RAH commonly originates in the junction of A1 and A2, courses medially to laterally between LSA and anterior cerebral artery, ICA bifurcation, and middle cerebral artery before entering the lateral portion of the anterior perforated substance...

The rare yet potentially fatal neurological complication known as posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) can manifest during pregnancy. Alongside symptoms such as headaches, nausea, visual disturbances, and altered mental status, patients often experience seizures or loss of consciousness. Imaging typically reveals vascular edema affecting the parietal and occipital lobes within the subcortical region. We present the case of a 24-year-old patient who developed postpartum eclampsia followed by PRES...

Glioblastoma is the most prevalent primary brain tumor. Because glioblastomas are very vascular, they may worsen the disease's neurologic symptoms by causing vasogenic brain edema and mass effects with a wide range of other symptoms. In this case report, a 42-year-old male complaining of severe headache, generalized weakness, and forgetfulness was brought to a territory care hospital, where a detailed neurological examination and investigations with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a grade IV (high-grade) glioma at the right frontotemporal and capsuloganglionic regions of the brain, and was suggested for surgery...

Thunderclap headache is a sudden severe headache with onset to peak within one minute. Multiple excruciating, short-lived thunderclap headaches over a few days to weeks are highly suggestive of reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS). RCVS can be primary or secondary to several factors, but it is rarely described after neuro-endovascular procedures using onyx material. A 10-year-old child presented with RCVS heralded by recurrent thunderclap headache following endovascular embolization of pial arteriovenous malformation with onyx material (contains organic solvent dimethyl sulfoxide)...

Dear Editor, Ticks carry many diseases, bacteria, and viruses and represent a very important healthcare issue both in Croatia and globally. Although most ticks are not infected with pathogens dangerous to humans, some ticks can transmit infectious diseases with significant morbidity and mortality. This is caused by the increasing incidence of many tick-borne diseases over a growing geographical area. Many factors influence which species of ticks are present in a given geographical area, as well as the density of their population and the risk of human exposure to infected ticks...

BACKGROUND: Glomus jugulare tumors (GJTs) are rare intra-cranial tumors. Commonly, these lesions present with cranial nerve palsies, headaches, and hydrocephalus. Rarely, GJTs present with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage. However, there has never been a report of diffuse subarachnoid hemorrhage following ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion in a patient who developed hydrocephalus secondary to any brain tumor in general or glomus jugulare tumors in particular. OBSERVATION: The authors presented an extremely rare complication of diffuse subarachnoid hemorrhage following the insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) in a 61-year-old female patient who was diagnosed to have both clinical and radiologic features of acute obstructive hydrocephalus secondary to a highly vascular huge glomus jugulare tumor...

Cerebral sinovenous thrombosis (CSVT) encompasses a spectrum of disorders involving thrombosis of the cerebral venous system. As shown by previous epidemiological studies, the prevalence of cerebral sinovenous thrombosis is 4-7 cases per million people. Nephrotic syndrome was very rarely associated with thrombosis cerebral veins or sinuses. Hypercoagulability and thrombotic complications in nephrotic syndrome are most commonly seen in deep veins of the lower extremities and renal veins. Our case highlights a unique scenario in which cerebral sinovenous thrombosis was the initial presentation of nephrotic syndrome in a patient that was not an important past medical or surgical problem...

Eye pain is a common complaint among patients presenting to the neurology clinic. It can be related to neurologic diseases, but it can also be a localized eye condition. Such disorders can be misleading, as their benign appearance might mask more grave underlying conditions, potentially leading to misdiagnoses or delayed treatment. Clinicians should be aware of the specific neurologic or systemic disorders (eg, demyelinating diseases or vascular abnormalities) that might first manifest as eye pain. Formal ophthalmic consultation is recommended for patients presenting with eye pain as the predominant complaint especially when red flags for more serious pathology are present...

Headache and cerebrovascular disease (CVD) are inextricably linked. Although in some cases headache complicating CVD may be little more than a symptomatic afterthought, in other cases, early recognition of headache's role in the CVD process is critical to effective management. In other words, headaches secondary to CVD span a spectrum, and in this article, we will review that spectrum.
