Corynebacterium is generally considered a contaminant in clinical practice. However, it may cause bacteremia in patients with hematologic disorders, and factors that contribute to its mortality are unclear. A case series and systematic literature review identified 96 cases of Corynebacterium bacteremia inhematologic disorderpatients. The median age was 50.5 years (range: 2-93 years), with 79 (82%) patients 18 years or older, and 64 (67%) patients male. Most cases involved hematologic malignancies, and neutropenia was observed in approximately 75% cases...

The first-line treatment for autoimmune hepatitis involves the use of prednisone or prednisolone either as monotherapy or in combination with azathioprine (AZA). Budesonide has shown promise in inducing a complete biochemical response (CBR) with fewer adverse effects and is considered an optional first-line treatment, particularly for patients without cirrhosis; however, it is worth noting that the design of that study favored budesonide. A recent real-life study revealed higher CBR rates with prednisone when equivalent initial doses were administered...

Paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes are rarely associated with hematologic malignancies. In their rarity, lymphomas are the diseases with more frequent paraneoplastic neurologic syndrome. High-risk antibodies are absent in most lymphoma-associated paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes, with the exception of antibodies to Tr/DNER in paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration, mGluR5 in limbic encephalitis, and mGluR1 in some cerebellar ataxias. Peripheral nervous system paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes are rare and heterogeneous, with a prevalence of demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy in non-Hodgkin lymphoma...

Pruritus of lymphoma is commonly associated with both Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma (AITL) and critically affects the life quality of patient. Recent evidence suggests that the pruritogenic cytokines seem to play a significant role in the genesis of chronic. This study aims to investigate the cytokines associated with itching in lymphoma patients and provide the basis for potential therapeutic targets. Serum samples were collected from 60 lymphoma patients, including 47 with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and 13 with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL), serving as the observation group (lymphoma group, LP group, n = 60)...

BACKGROUND: Multi-factorial reasons are an induction to cause cancer. Different infections and infestations with viruses, bacteria, and parasites have been detected for many years to be related to human carcinogenesis. PURPOSE: The study aimed to review all ideas of tumor carcinogenesis and its associations with parasitic infections and infestations. METHODS: We reviewed several articles (published and imprinted) by selecting, extracting, and synthesizing data about the relationship between cancers and parasites...

BACKGROUND: Recent studies indicate an upsurge of primary cutaneous lymphoma (PCL) in the Indian population. Of late, we too have come across varied presentations of PCL in relatively younger individuals. Hence, we decided to study the clinical and immunohistological profile of patients with PCL in our department. METHODS: All cases diagnosed as PCL from October 2016 to October 2019 were included. Clinical details, complete blood count, peripheral smear, imaging, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry of skin specimens were analyzed...

Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) is an apheresis procedure that is conventionally used as a first-line treatment for cutaneous and leukemic subtypes of T-cell lymphoma, such as Sezary's syndrome and mycosis fungoides. Over the past three decades, its immunotherapeutic properties have been tested on a variety of autoimmune conditions, including many dermatologic diseases. There is ample evidence of ECP's ability to modify leukocytes and alter cytokine production for certain dermatologic diseases that have been refractory to first-line treatments, such as atopic dermatitis...

With the ongoing progress of basic research along with the introduction of new pharmaceutical options spanning almost all therapeutic areas, the need for biomarkers that will be implemented into the personalized medical approach is higher than ever. Their use can be incorporated into clinical practice and can be applied to the classification of disorders and the evaluation of disease severity but also to the monitoring of the progress of therapeutic/pharmaceutical interventions. This systematic review collects the findings of hematologic biomarkers in various cutaneous malignancies, excluding malignant melanoma, to support their potential use in the prognosis but also in the assessment of therapeutic strategies for the specific category of skin disorders...

Primary cutaneous B-cell lymphomas (PCBCLs) are B-cell lymphomas that can occur in the skin without evidence of extracutaneous involvement. The 2005 WHO/EORTC classification of cutaneous lymphomas and its 2018 update have distinguished three main categories based on clinicopathological, immunohistochemical, and genetic characteristics: primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoma (PCMZL), primary cutaneous follicle centre lymphoma (PCFCL), and primary cutaneous diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, leg type (PCDLBCL-LT)...

BACKGROUND/AIM: The role of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs; anti-PD1) in the treatment of childhood cancers is still evolving. The aim of this nationwide retrospective study was to assess the safety and effectiveness of ICIs used in a group of 42 patients, with a median age of 13.6 years, with various types of advanced malignancies treated in pediatric oncology centers in Poland between 2015 and 2023. RESULTS: The indications for treatment with anti-PD1 were as follows: Hodgkin lymphoma (11); malignant skin melanoma (9); neuroblastoma (8); and other malignancies (14)...

Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) are at increased risk of developing de novo post-transplant malignancies (PTMs), with regional differences in types with excess risk compared to the general population. A single-center, population-controlled, retrospective cohort study was conducted at a tertiary care center in Thailand among all adults who underwent their first kidney transplant from 1986 to 2018. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) of malignancy by age, sex, and place of residence were obtained using data from the National Cancer Registry of Thailand as population control...

Staging PET with 18F-FDG PET/CT) showed increased uptake in the skin on the right abdomen and left hip. Subsequently 18F-FAPI-42 PET/CT revealed additional foci of abnormal uptake on the skin of the chest and back.

Primary cutaneous lymphomas (PCLs) are a heterogenous group of non-Hodgkin lymphomas arising in the skin from T- or B-lymphocytes, for which there is limited epidemiological data available. To describe the disease characteristics and estimate annual incidence rates (IRs) and temporal trends of PCLs and their subtypes in Attica, Greece. A retrospective analysis of all PCL patients, diagnosed in Attica's main haemopathology referral centre from 2009 to 2021, was conducted. Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most prevalent type of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and is generally characterized by multiple patches or plaques with fine scales. One of its variants manifests with multiple purpuric eruptions, mimicking benign pigmented purpuric dermatosis (PPD). To investigate clinicopathological features of PPD-like MF patients. We report four PPD-like MF cases and summarize the clinicopathological features described in reports of nine PPD-like MF cases published in the past 20 years. Compared with benign PPD, petechial lesions in PPD-like MF are more generalized, persistent, and resistant to conventional steroid treatment...
