INTRODUCTION: For several years, the venous aesthetic problem has been tackled mainly with sclerotherapy techniques. In recent years, laser techniques have been added, both surface (transdermal) and endo-perivenous, performed with small optical fibers (100-200 μm) and low intensities in terms of LEED and Watt. The endo-perivenous technique has extended the possibilities of laser treatment also to the nourishing veins, to telangiectasias resistant to therapies with sclerosing agents and/or transdermal lasers and to vessels with larger diameters (1-3 mm) and depths >1...

OBJECTIVES: To assess the mid-term efficacy and safety of thermal and non-thermal endovenous ablation in the treatment of lower limb superficial venous insufficiency. METHOD: We performed a systematic review according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement and a Bayesian network meta-analysis. Primary endpoints were great saphenous vein (GSV) closure and venous clinical severity score (VCSS) score improvement...

BACKGROUND: Recurrent varicose veins with neovascularization are a common clinical problem. Although endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) has become the standard treatment modality to treat truncal veins, additional sclerotherapy is required to treat newly formed tortuous veins. A novel laser fiber with an injection channel (nLF) allows for such simultaneous proximal sclerotherapy and offers a potentially more effective treatment option. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to present our experience using the nLF for combined EVLA and sclerotherapy treatment of symptomatic recurrent varicose veins...

OBJECTIVE: To examine the long-term effectiveness of fluoroscopy-guided foam sclerotherapy for varicose veins in the legs. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included consecutive patients who underwent fluoroscopy-guided foam sclerotherapy for varicose veins in the legs at the authors' center during a period from August 1, 2011, to May 31, 2016. The last follow-up was conducted by a telephone/WeChat interactive interview in May 2022. Recurrence was defined as the presence of varicose veins regardless of symptoms...

OBJECTIVES: The catheter-directed foam sclerotherapy (FS) and the suggested perivenous tumescent application for great saphenous vein (GSV) diameter reduction are suggested to improve technical and clinical results; yet, their use is reported rather indiscriminately. Our aim is to introduce an algorithm categorising the use of technical modalities accompanying ultrasound-guided FS of the GSV and present the technical efficacy of FS through a 5 F × 11  cm sheath placed at the knee level...

Varicose veins are commonly due to saphenous vein reflux, but they can manifest more complex venous pathologies. A 45-year-old woman presented with painful leg varicosities and pelvic pain. Duplex examination showed bilateral superficial venous reflux, and, on further interrogation, cross-sectional imaging demonstrated enlarged ovarian veins and nonthrombotic iliac vein compression. Ovarian vein embolization followed by iliac vein stenting and bilateral lower extremity venous ablations and sclerotherapy was performed...

For the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), various therapeutic options are available. In addition to conservative compression therapy, classical vein surgery, sclerotherapy and endoluminal therapies are increasingly being used to treat varicose veins. For a differentiated indication and correct treatment planning, a stepwise diagnosis with clinical examination and documentation of typical symptoms, dynamic vein function measurement to assess the global venous status as well as a qualitative assessment of the exact insufficient vein segments by means of color-coded duplex sonography is required...

We aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy combined with endoluminal radiofrequency closure in patients with varicose veins of lower extremities (VVLEs); furthermore, we aimed to provide a theoretical basis for the effective management of VVLE patients in clinical work. From January 1, 2020, to March 1, 2021, 88 patients with VVLE admitted to Third Hospital of Shandong Province were included in this retrospective study. Depending on the type of treatment, the patients were divided into study groups and control groups...

Common causes include prothombotic states, venous stasis or excessive manipulation. The literature includes one case report of Mondor's Disease after endovenous laser ablation and foam sclerotherapy and a case series after open saphenofemoral junction ligation. However, there have been no noted cases of this rare complication after mechanochemical ablation of the GSV...

RFA is a relatively new treatment, approved by the FDA in 1999 and is a minimally invasive intervention that has become one of the most common alternatives due to its many advantages, including decreased pain, less morbidity, shorter hospital stay and faster return to work. We retrospectively analyzed a total of 503 limbs submitted for surgical interventions for VVs using the RFA, combined or not with surgical phlebectomies and sclerotherapy, in our institution between April 2012 and December 2020. The technical success was 99...

BACKGROUND: Cryo-Laser & Cryo-Sclerotherapy (CLaCS) is a technique which combines thermal sclerotherapy and injection sclerotherapy. Telangiectasias and small varicosities are targeted by a transdermal laser and right after receive injection sclerotherapy. A cooling device blows -20°C air onto the skin and needle in a pre-, parallel-, and post-fashion. OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to establish if there is a difference in result and complications by varying the sclerosing agent but keeping the same ND:Yag long pulse laser parameters in the treatment of small varicosities...

OBJECTIVE: This systematic review provides a summary and evaluation of cases of migraine aura-like episodes elicited by sclerotherapy of veins of the lower extremities and discusses possible underlying mechanisms. BACKGROUND: Sclerotherapy is a commonly used treatment for varicose veins. Symptoms resembling migraine aura have been reported during and following sclerotherapy of the lower extremities, suggesting that sclerotherapy may elicit migraine aura. METHODS: We searched PubMed for articles reporting neurological complications that were transient and fully reversible following sclerotherapy treatment for varicose veins in the lower limbs...

Sclerotherapy is among the least invasive and most commonly utilised treatment options for varicose veins. Nonetheless, it does not cure varicosities permanently and recurrence rates are of up to 64%. Although sclerosing foams have been extensively characterised with respect to their bench-top properties, such as bubble size distribution and half-life, little is known about their flow behaviour within the venous environment during treatment. Additionally, current methods of foam characterisation do not recapitulate the end-point administration conditions, hindering optimisation of therapeutic efficacy...

We treated a case of gastroesophageal varices due to decompensated liver cirrhosis associated with Wilson's disease. The varicose veins penetrated the paraesophageal vein. We performed endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) on the perforating vein and endoscopic injection sclerotherapy distally. However, 5 days after treatment, the patient vomited blood. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed bleeding from the ulcer after EVL at the perforating vein. We performed EVL and stopped the bleeding. However, the next day, she vomited blood again and developed hemorrhagic shock...
