PURPOSE: To evaluate the quality of life (QoL) in long-term testicular cancer (TC) survivors. METHODS: QoL was assessed in TC survivors treated between March 1976 and December 2004 (n = 625) using the EORTC-QLQ-C30 questionnaire, including a TC module. The assessment was performed at two time points (2006: response rate: n = 201/625 (32.2%), median follow-up (FU): 12.9 years (range 1.1-30.9); 2017: response rate: n = 95/201 (47...

BACKGROUND: Increasing healthcare expenditure in the United States has put policymakers under enormous pressure to find ways to curtail costs. Starting January 1st, 2021, hospitals operating in the U.S. were mandated to publish transparent, accessible pricing information online about the items and services in a consumer-friendly format within comprehensive machine-readable files on their websites. Is the content that is being put out by hospital systems usable? OBJECTIVE: To analyze the available files on hospitals' websites, answering the question: is price transparency information as provided usable for patients or for machines? And providing a solution...

The development of highly active acid-base catalysts for transfer hydrogenations of biomass derived carbonyl compounds is a pressing challenge. Solid frustrated Lewis pairs (FLP) catalysis is possibly a solution, but the development of this concept is still at a very early stage. Herein, stable, phase-pure, crystalline hydrotalcite-like compounds were synthesized by incorporating cerium cations into layered double hydroxide (MgAlCe-LDH). Besides the insertion of well-isolated cerium centers surrounded by hydroxyl groups, the formation of hydroxyl vacancies near the aluminum centers, which were formed by the insertion of cerium centers into the layered double hydroxides (LDH) lattice, was also identified...

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is heterogeneous in nature, which complicates diagnostic efforts and makes accurate assessment tools critical. The MMPI family of instruments are widely used broadband measures of psychopathology, including trauma symptomology. The MMPI-3's Anxiety Related Experiences scale (ARX) is an expansion of the MMPI-2-RF Anxiety (AXY) scale which has historically represented the MMPI family's best measure of trauma symptoms. This study expands research on ARX in 2 samples of college students ( n  = 332 [PCL-5 Criterion] & n =  58 [CAPS-5 Criterion]) by examining ARX's incremental, criterion, and classification validity...

We hypothesized that individuals with persistent cognitive complaints would demonstrate lower global cognitive composite scores compared to those without. METHOD: 67 adults aged 24-83 completed in-person neuropsychological testing in a hospital setting in Phoenix, Arizona...

Fucoxanthin (Fx) has been proven to exert numerous biological properties, which makes it an interesting molecule with diverse industrial applications. In this study, the kinetic behavior of Fx was studied to optimize three variables: time ( t -3 min to 7 days), temperature ( T -5 to 85 °C), and concentration of ethanol in water ( S -50 to 100%, v / v ), in order to obtain the best Fx yield from Undaria pinnatifida using conventional heat extraction. The Fx content ( Y 1 ) was found through HPLC-DAD and expressed in µg Fx/g of algae sample dry weight (AS dw)...

The choline chloride (ChCl) and ethylene glycol (EG) mixture has become established as a paradigmatic deep eutectic solvent (DES). Here, we present measurements of the phase behaviour of this mixture over a wide composition range, and provide an extended phase diagram. The eutectic point was found to lie at -28 ± 1 °C and 0.01 < x ChCl < 0.02, sharply contrasting with the previously expected eutectic composition. Our observations confirm that the eutectic temperature is not 'deep' compared to the ideal solution theory prediction...

The manufacture of blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) has always been a tough problem to solve in the display and illumination fields. Inorganic/organic semiconductors and carbon dots (CDs) with a wide band gap still face obstacles such as a low external quantum efficiency (EQE) and poor stability. Herein, we synthesized highly stable and blue emission CDs with a chemically inert surface, and the photoluminescence (PL) peak (in ultra-pure water) of which is located at 446 nm with an absolute PL quantum yield (PLQY) of 26...

Children and adolescents with movement challenges have lower instances of physical activity and longer time spent in sedentary behaviors compared to children with typical development. We completed four 8-week seasons (2-3 times per week) in a combination of 3 different formats by season: online remote (winter and spring), in person in a community park (winter, spring, and summer), and in person in an afterschool setting (autumn)...

Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution (OEND) is an effective public health intervention to reduce opioid overdose fatalities (McDonald and Strang, Addiction 111:1177-1187, 2016). However, we know little about OEND implementation outcomes (i.e., indicators of implementation success), specifically the fidelity of training delivery, and how these may relate to intervention outcomes (i.e., indicators of the success or effectiveness of an intervention), such as overdose knowledge and attitudes. Twin column recycling semi-preparative liquid chromatography (TCRLC) is revived to prepare small amount (∼ 1 mg) of a pure targeted compound, which cannot be isolated by conventional preparative liquid chromatography. In this work, TCRLC is extended to gradient elution. The first step of this modified process consists of a gradient step, which eliminates both early and late impurities. If not discarded, some late impurities could echo during the second isocratic recycling step of the process and compromise the purity level required for the targeted compound...
