Herein, we aimed to investigate the functions of ADAMTS6 in colon cancer and its potential mechanism. Based on the data acquired from TCGA database, we revealed that ADAMTS6 was highly expressed in colon cancer tissues, and high expression of ADAMTS6 predicted worse prognosis in patients with colon cancer. Moreover, qRT-PCR demonstrated that the levels of ADAMTS6 were higher in colon cancer cell lines (NCI-H508, Caco-2, CW-2 and HCT 116) than that in normal control cell line CCD-18Co. Functional experiments displayed that depletion of ADAMTS6 repressed NCI-H508 cell growth, invasion and migration whilst overexpression of ADAMTS6 facilitated Caco-2 cell growth, invasion and migration...

Chemotherapy based on 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is the standard approach for colon cancer treatment, and resistance to 5-FU is a significant obstacle in the clinical treatment of colon cancer. However, the mechanisms underlying 5-FU resistance in colon cancer cells remain largely unknown. This study aimed at determining whether 5-FU-resistant colon cancer cells undergo epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and apoptosis and the role of GDF15-a member of the transforming growth factor β /bone morphogenetic protein super family and a protein known to be involved in cancer progression-in the regulation of EMT and apoptosis of these cells, along with the underlying mechanisms...

Background: Sorafenib is the standard first-line treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), even though acquired resistance to sorafenib has been found in many HCC patients, resulting in poor prognosis. Accumulating evidence demonstrates that liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs) contribute to sorafenib resistance in HCC. The inflammatory factor interleukin 6 (IL-6) plays a role in sorafenib resistance in HCC. However, the mechanism by which IL-6 in LCSCs is involved in the process of HCC sorafenib resistance remains elusive...

Background: So far, little research has been conducted regarding the underlying mechanism of renal carcinogenesis at molecular level. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) exerts an important part during tumor genesis as well as the development through mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways. Therefore, we hypothesized that EMT could promote renal cell carcinoma (RCC) progression via the ERK5/AP-1pathway. Materials and Methods: The RCC cell lines were utilized to be the models with in vitro exposure to cigarette smoke extract (CSE)...

Bladder cancer (BC) is the most common urinary system malignancy and is a serious threat to human health. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are members of a newly defined class of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) that can regulate gene expression at the transcriptional or posttranscriptional level. Studies have shown that circRNAs are related to the clinicopathological characteristics, prognosis, and chemosensitivity of BC, and basic research has further confirmed that changes in the expression of circRNAs in BC are closely related to various tumor biological functions...

Objective: Glioma has the highest incidence among the different tumor types within the nervous system, accounting for about 40% of them. Malignant glioma has a high invasion and metastasis rate, which leads to the poor prognosis of patients. By targeting specific genes, microRNAs serve as key regulators in the epithelial-mesenchymal transformation (EMT) process, which could provide new insights into the treatment of glioblastomas (GBM). The detailed molecular role that miR-623 plays in GBM still remains unclear...

Metastasis is the main cause of laryngeal cancer-related death; its molecular mechanism remains unknown. Here we identify protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) as a new metastasis-promoting factor in laryngeal carcinoma, and explore its underlying mechanism of action in regulating laryngeal cancer progression. We illustrated that PRMT5 expression was positively correlated with tumor stages, lymphatic metastasis, and unfavorable outcome. Functional assays revealed that PRMT5 promoted laryngeal carcinoma cell proliferation, migration, and invasive capacity in vitro, as well as lymph-node metastasis in vivo...

GATA6 acts as an oncogene or tumour suppressor in different cancers. Previously, we found that aberrant expression of GATA6 promoted metastasis in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). However, the mechanism by which GATA6 promotes metastasis in CCA is unclear. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the role of GATA6 in CCA cell epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Our results showed that GATA6 expression was positively associated with N-cadherin and vimentin expression but negatively associated with E-cadherin expression in 91 CCA samples...
