The loss of efficacy of adalimumab, one of the most commonly used biologics for the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa, is not news to the scientific community, and it should be noted that the number of cases not responding to this agent has been progressively increasing in recent years. We present a 45-year-old patient with hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa (Hurley II-III) with a complaint duration of 3 years who has been on adalimumab 40 mg weekly for 9 months. The lack of improvement in the clinical condition as well as the progression of the disease within the ongoing biologic therapy led to the need for repeated hospitalizations and the additional introduction of intravenous treatment with a regimen of antibiotics (Ertapenem, Metronizadol, Ceftriaxone), zinc, colchicine, and pain relievers...

BACKGROUND: In 2013, Canoui-Poitrine et al identified three hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) phenotypes by a latent class (LC) analysis, based on anatomical sites of involvement. OBJECTIVE: To improve the classification of the gluteal phenotype (LC3) patients given their diverse lesion types and differences in clinical profile. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We designed a bicentric study gathering all LC3 patients (n=83) from two hospitals. We conducted a two-step cluster analysis among them and also compared their characteristics with the rest of the HS patients (n= 661)...

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also known as acne inversa, is a chronic inflammatory disease that manifests as painful nodules, abscesses, draining dermal tunnels, and scarring in intertriginous areas such as the axillae, groin, and breasts. The nature of the disease and its chronicity have a destructive impact on mental health and quality of life. HS has an estimated global prevalence of 0.00033-4.1% and it disproportionately affects females compared to males. HS involving the female anogenital regions is reported rarely in the gynecological literature, and it can often be mistaken for other vulvar diseases...

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also known as acne inversa, is a chronic disabling and debilitating inflammatory disease with high unmet medical need. The prevalence of HS is 1-2% in most studies, although it is likely underreported and estimates vary globally due to variance in data collection methods, ethnicity, geographical location, and underdiagnosis. HS is characterized by persistent, painful cutaneous nodules, abscesses, and draining tunnels commonly affecting the axillary, anogenital, inguinal, and perianal/gluteal areas...

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the appearance of painful inflamed nodules, abscesses, and pus-draining sinus tracts in the intertriginous skin of the groins, buttocks, and perianal and axillary regions. Despite its high prevalence of ~0.4-1%, therapeutic options for HS are still limited. Over the past 10 years, it has become clear that HS is a systemic disease, associated with various comorbidities, including metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its sequelae. Accordingly, the life expectancy of HS patients is significantly reduced...

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease that is highly correlated with obesity. Haptoglobin serum levels have recently been recognized as an important biomarker linking obesity with chronic inflammation. OBJECTIVE: To compare haptoglobin with previously proposed serum biomarkers for the determination of disease severity in HS patients. For this purpose, disease severity of HS patients was determined by a panel of clinical scores as well as several risk factors, such as weight and smoking habits...

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a heterogeneous chronic relapsing skin disease. Several assessment tools are used to assess disease severity and to classify disease phenotype; however, no consensus currently exists. This review evaluates the various assessment tools and phenotypes, assessing their validity and reliability. Numerous assessment tools and phenotype classifications have been proposed for identifying various subtypes within the HS disease spectrum. Each has a with different purpose, such as use in daily practice or in clinical trial settings...

Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa affects approximately 1% of the population. Objective: Highlighting the relevance of self-management-competency as a new therapeutic target. Method: 258 patients from the 'Epidemiology and Care in Acne inversa (EpiCAi)' project were included in the study. Disease burden was measured by patient-rated questionnaires in terms of disease activity, pain, quality of life, depression and insomnia and correlated with the domains of the health education impact questionnaire (heiQ) measuring self-management-competency...

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory skin condition which is physically, psychologically and socially disabling and often affects a patient's quality of life (QOL). There are numerous QOL tools used in dermatology. However, assessment of QOL in patients with HS is difficult due to the inability of generic QOL tools to specifically capture QOL in patients with HS. Numerous HS-specific QOL tools have been developed in recent years. It is important to identify evidence on full psychometric evaluation of these tools...

Mast cells have traditionally been associated with allergic inflammatory responses; however, they play important roles in cutaneous innate immunity and wound healing. The Hidradenitis Suppurativa tissue transcriptome is associated with alterations in innate immunity and wound healing-associated pathways; however, the role of mast cells in the disease is unexplored. We demonstrate that mast cell-associated gene expression (using whole tissue RNAseq) is upregulated, and in-silico cellular deconvolution identifies activated mast cells upregulated and resting mast cells downregulated in lesional tissue...

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can progress to significant tunnels and scars that affect quality of life, especially if diagnosis and treatment are delayed. Average delay after initial presentation of HS symptoms can range from 3 to 10 years in adults and 1 to 2 years in children. Factors associated with diagnostic delay include female gender, non-white race, and greater disease severity at diagnosis. Contributing factors include misdiagnoses, difficulty accessing a dermatologist, hesitation in seeking care due to the stigmatizing nature of the disease, and lack of awareness among providers and patients...

Post-bariatric surgical procedures in patients after massive weight loss (MWL) are often associated with elevated minor and major complications (17-55%). If there is additionally a long history of hydradenitis suppurativa (HS) in the lower abdomen and groin area, complications of infection can appear in all patients. Differentiated pre-, peri- and postoperative therapy regime is then indicated. From 2010 to 2021, a total of 12 (66.6% women, 33.3% men) consecutive patients underwent conventional (Pittsburg rating scale [PRS]: Grade 2) or fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty (PRS: Grade 3) after massive weight loss...
