BACKGROUND: Gas chromatography is worldwide recognized as one of the most important analytical techniques, due to its high versatility and reliability. The heart of a gas chromatograph is the column, that allows analyte peak separations and, consequently, accurate qualitative and qualitative analyses. New and more efficient columns are always requested to satisfy new and challenging analytical needs. RESULTS: In this work, imidazolium ionic liquids functionalized pillar [5] arenes have been used for the first time as gas chromatographic stationary phases, considering their highly symmetric pillar-shaped architecture with cavities rich in π-electrons...

An ultrasonic phased array defect extraction method based on adaptive region growth is proposed, aiming at problems such as difficulty in defect identification and extraction caused by noise interference and complex structure of the detected object during ultrasonic phased array detection. First, bilateral filtering and grayscale processing techniques are employed for the purpose of noise reduction and initial data processing. Following this, the maximum sound pressure within the designated focusing region serves as the seed point...

BACKGROUND: For brain metastases (BMs) from EGFR/ALK-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the best time to administer tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and brain radiotherapy (RT) has not been identified. This analysis was an attempt to solve this problem in part. METHODS: A total of 163 patients with EGFR/ALK-positive NSCLC and brain metastasis (BM) who were diagnosed between January 2017 and July 2022 were included in this study. Ninety-one patients underwent upfront RT, and 72 patients received deferred RT...

This work presents the first example of the utilization of polar ester group functionalized pillar[6]arene (P6A-C10-OAc) as a stationary phase for capillary gas chromatographic (GC) separations. The statically coated P6A-C10-OAc column showed a high column efficiency of 5393 plates/m and moderate polar nature. Its resolving capability and retention behaviors were investigated for a mixture of 20 analytes and more than a dozen isomers from apolar to polar in nature. As evidenced, the P6A-C10-OAc column achieved high-resolution separations of all the analytes and good inertness...

Extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) has recently gained increasing attention due to its significant role in cancer and other pathophysiologic states. The majority of circular DNAs detected by Circle-seq are small-size eccDNAs with enigmatic functions. One major technical hurdle is to synthesize eccDNA for functional identification. Here, we describe CAES ( C ircle-seq based A rtificial E ccDNA S ynthesis), a promising and reliable method for artificial eccDNA synthesis. Eight eccDNAs carrying different microRNA genes (eccMIR) found in gastric cancer tissues, ranging from 329 bp to 2189 bp in size, were created utilizing the CAES method...

Here we report the first example of employing hydroxyl-functionalized pillar[5]arene (P5A-C10-OH) as stationary phase for capillary gas chromatographic (GC) separations. The statically coated P5A-C10-OH capillary column possessed moderate polarity and column efficiency of 3233 plates per m determined by n -dodecane. As a result, the P5A-C10-OH column exhibited high-resolution capability for the mixture of 17 analytes from apolar to polar nature. Importantly, it exhibited advantageous performance for high resolution of the challenging isomers of bromonitrobenzene, chloroaniline, bromoaniline, iodoaniline and dimethylaniline with good peak shapes over the P5A-C10 and commercial HP-35 columns...

BACKGROUND: Inflammation plays a critical role in sepsis. The integration of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelets-to-lymphocytes ratio (PLR) from multiple cell types offers a novel approach to rapidly assess inflammation status. However, the predictive role of NLR and PLR in sepsis with lymphopenia remains uncertain. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to explore the prognostic value of NLR and PLR in sepsis patients with lymphopenia. DESIGN AND METHODS: In this observational retrospective study, we included 172 sepsis patients with lymphopenia and collected clinical characteristics for analysis...

BACKGROUND: Mechanical Ventilation (MV) is an essential mechanism of life support in the clinic. It may also lead to ventilator-induced acute lung injury (VILI) due to local alveolar overstretching and/or repeated alveolar collapse. However, the pathogenesis of VILI is not completely understood, and its occurrence and development may be related to physiological processes such as the inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. Some studies have found that the the apelin/APJ axis is an endogenous antagonistic mechanism activated during acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS), that can counteract the injury response and prevent uncontrolled lung injury...

Noise pollution is increasingly prevalent in aquatic ecosystems, causing detrimental effects on growth and behavior of marine fishes. The physiological responses of fish to underwater noise are poorly understood. In this study, we used RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) to study the transcriptome of the sonic muscle in small yellow croaker (Larimichthys polyactis) after exposure to a 120 dB noise for 30 min. The behavioral experiment revealed that noise exposure resulted in accelerated tail swimming behavior at the beginning of the exposure period, followed by loss of balance at the end of experiment...

The natural product Honokiol exhibits robust antitumor activity against a range of cancers, and it has also received approval to undergo phase I clinical trial testing. We confrmed that honokiol can promote the apoptotic death of tumor cells through cell experiments. Then siRNA constructs specific for PIAS3, PIAS3 overexpression plasmid and the mutation of the STAT3 Tyr705 residue were used to confirm the mechanism of Honokiol-induced apoptosis. Finally, we confrmed that honokiol can promote PIAS3 upregulation, in turn suppressing STAT3 Tyr705 phosphorylation through the in vivo and in vitro experiments...

To date, perovskite solar cells (pero-SCs) with doped 2,2',7,7'-tetrakis(N,N-di-p-methoxyphenylamine)-9,9'-spirobifluorene (Spiro-OMeTAD) hole transporting layers (HTLs) have shown the highest recorded power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). However, their commercialization is still impeded by poor device stability owing to the hygroscopic lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide and volatile 4-tert-butylpyridine dopants as well as time-consuming oxidation in air. In this study, we explored a series of single-component iodonium initiators with strong oxidability and different electron delocalization properties to precisely manipulate the oxidation states of Spiro-OMeTAD without air assistance, and the oxidation mechanism was clearly understood...

However, the correlation between RNF43 mutation and colorectal cancer (CRC) immunotherapy remains unreported. We evaluated the role of RNF43 using publicly available data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). In addition, further analysis was performed on an internal validation cohort (hcohort). The mutant profiles of RNF43 were analyzed in 873 Chinese CRC patients...
