OBJECTIVE: Transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) is an emerging minimally invasive approach increasingly applied to perform many gynecological procedures. Despite a still limited level of evidence, compared to conventional laparoscopy, vNOTES seems to be associated with reduced blood loss, shorter operative time, less postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization time, better cosmetic results and decreased postoperative morbidity. Although growing evidence supports the effectiveness of vNOTES for elective adnexal surgeries, there is still limited knowledge regarding its feasibility and safety in emergency settings...

Gradually increasing interest in laparoscopic surgeries has led to the advent of various lesser invasive techniques in the form of vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) and laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS) surgery. Very few studies have analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of vNOTES over LESS surgeries in hysterectomy. After a comprehensive search, full texts of relevant manuscripts were obtained to assess eligibility for recruitment. A comprehensive meta-analysis was subsequently performed to compare the outcomes of vNOTES and LESS in hysterectomy, and forest plots were constructed...

BACKGROUND: Various incisions are employed for graft extraction during minimally invasive donor nephrectomy, but an overarching synthesis of associated short-term donor outcomes is lacking. METHODS: An electronic literature search was conducted on PubMed, EMBASE and Scopus for studies comparing ≥2 graft extraction incisions in laparoscopic or robotic donor nephrectomy with ≥10 patients per arm. Eligible study designs included randomized trials, case-control, and cohort studies...

OBJECTIVE: This review will evaluate the effectiveness of natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES)/hybrid NOTES versus traditional surgical techniques in the management of diverticular disease. INTRODUCTION: Diverticular disease can have a significant impact on a patient's quality of life, especially the changes affecting bowel function. Recurrent/severe symptoms may require surgery. Resections are invasive and can have significant operative complications...

BACKGROUND: Natural orifice transluminal endoscopy surgery (NOTES) gastrojejunal anastomosis (GJA) with duodenal exclusion (DE) could be used as a less invasive alternative to surgical gastric bypass. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of both methods for bariatric purpose. METHODS: This was a prospective, experimental and comparative study on 27 obese living pigs, comparing 4 groups: GJA alone (group 1, G1), GJA + DE (group 2, G2), surgical gastric bypass (group 3, G3), control group (group 4, G4)...

PURPOSE: To compare the safety, feasibility, and effectiveness of transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic sacrocolpopexy (vNOTES-SC) and laparoendoscopic single-site sacrocolpopexy (LESS-SC) for pelvic organ prolapse (POP). METHOD: Ninety-four patients with POP who underwent vNOTES-SC or LESS-SC from October 2016 to November 2018 were included. The propensity score matching method was used for 1:1 matching between the two surgery groups. After matching, the general perioperative indicators, surgical complications, and the subjective and objective therapeutic effects of the two groups 3 years post-surgery were analyzed...

The term "Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery" (NOTES) defines a surgical approach that leverages the body's natural orifices to access the abdominal cavity, presenting a patient-centric perspective by highlighting its potential to eliminate abdominal wall aggression, mitigate postoperative discomfort, and offer benefits comparable to laparoscopic surgery. This comprehensive paper aims to not only review the existing landscape of NOTES techniques but also to propose advancements in flexible tools augmenting established endoscopic platforms, while also exploring the revolutionary concept of robotic structures grounded in micromechatronics and communication technologies...

OBJECTIVE: Owing to the combination of benefits, including permanent visual guidance and no abdominal skin incision, vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery hysterectomy (vNOTES-H) is currently widely used. However, the introduction of vNOTES-H has been delayed in many Japanese regional core hospitals because of its specific device and skill requirements. Therefore, the characteristics and advantages should be explained for the widespread use of this technique. STUDY DESIGN: We reviewed the medical records of 17 patients with vNOTES-H and 94 patients with total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2022...

BACKGROUND: In France, 62,000 hysterectomies are performed per year, 70% of which are benign. The choice of approach (laparotomy, laparoscopy or vaginal route) is particularly important in the case of large uterus (> 280g) which are associated with a higher risk of complications. The current data are not sufficient to favour one or other approach. A new medical device, the vNOTES (Natural Vaginal Orifice Transluminal Endoscopy System), offers the advantage of both laparoscopic and vaginal route for pelvic surgery...

Open, pure or hand-assisted laparoscopic, natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgical (NOTES) and robotic approaches (Transperitoneal or retroperitoneal) are the described approaches for living donor nephrectomy. We describe the procedural steps of a robotic living donor nephrectomy (RLDN) retroperitoneal (RRLDN) technique using a da Vinci X surgical system and three robotic arms. This is the first reported case with the retroperitoneal robotic approach. The procedure in brief is as follows. First, with the patient placed in full flank position, the camera port is placed at the level of the Petit's triangle apex...

INTRODUCTION: Transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) has already proven its non-inferiority to conventional abdominal laparoscopy (CAL) for hysterectomy without conversion. The results in terms of efficacy and safety are promising. However, we note a lack of medical literature and no specific randomised controlled trial assessing women's sexual function after vNOTES for benign adnexal surgery. The aim of this RCT is to confirm the non-inferiority of the vNOTES approach for benign adnexal pathology compared with CAL on women's sexual function...

BACKGROUND: Currently, there are five major approaches to hysterectomy for benign gynaecological disease: abdominal hysterectomy (AH), vaginal hysterectomy (VH), laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH), robotic-assisted hysterectomy (RH) and vaginal natural orifice hysterectomy (V-NOTES). Within the LH category we further differentiate the laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) from the total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) and single-port laparoscopic hysterectomy (SP-LH). OBJECTIVES: To assess the effectiveness and safety of different surgical approaches to hysterectomy for women with benign gynaecological conditions...
