Pancreatic cancer (PC) is characterized by its extremely aggressive nature and ranks 14th in the number of new cancer cases worldwide. However, due to its complexity, it ranks 7th in the list of the most lethal cancers worldwide. The pathogenesis of PC involves several complex processes, including familial genetic factors associated with risk factors such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, chronic pancreatitis, and smoking. Mutations in genes such as KRAS, TP53 , and SMAD4 are linked to the appearance of malignant cells that generate pancreatic lesions and, consequently, cancer...

Calcifying fibrous tumor (CFT) is a rare benign lesion of mesenchymal origin that may present similar characteristics to other more common tumors. We present the case of a 36-year-old woman with a tumor in the proximal jejunum, initially suspected to be a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). Surgical resection was performed, revealing a well-demarcated nodule at the anti-mesenteric border with microscopic features typical of a calcifying fibrous tumor. The tumor cells were positive for CD34 and negative for other markers, differentiating it from other neoplasms...

A 58-year-old woman was found to have a submucosal bulging lesion in the anterior wall of the gastric fundus during a screening esophagogastroscopy. Endosonographic evaluation revealed it to be a 3.1×2.5cm, hypoechoic mass originating from muscularis propria (MP). Endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFR) was attempted. After submucosal injection, a four-fifth circumferential mucosal incision was made around the lesion. Submucosal dissection was performed to unroof the overlying mucosa, which was preserved via the remaining one-fifth circumferential mucosal edge...

NF1 is an autosomal dominant hereditary disease, with a prevalence of at least 1 in 4000-5000 population. The diagnosis criteria of NF1 included typical manifestations such as café-au-lait spots, frecking in the axilla or inguinal region, multiple neurofibromas, Lisch nodeules, and distinctive osseous lesions. Genetic testing shows NF1 mutation. It is essential for tumor surveillance in NF1 patients because their life expectancy is about 54 years due to malignancy. A case of NF-1 patient receive laparoscopic small bowel resection and finally diagnosed as adenocarcinoma and ganglioneuroma...

BACKGROUND: Gastric stromal tumors, originating from mesenchymal tissues, are one of the most common tumors of the digestive tract. For stromal tumors originating from the muscularis propria, compared with conventional endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR) can remove deep lesions and digestive tract wall tumors completely. However, this technique has major limitations such as perforation, postoperative bleeding, and post-polypectomy syndrome...

A 69-year-old man with suspected gastrointestinal stromal tumor was referred to 18F-FDG PET/CT. Images showed increased metabolism in a jejunal wall thickening, 2 liver lesions, and hepatic lymph nodes. The patient underwent wedge biopsy of the liver, which revealed inflammatory pseudotumor. The patient was treated with 20 mg/d prednisone, with a gradual dose reduction. A partial metabolic response was achieved after 2 months of therapy, and a final PET/CT showed complete metabolic response after 9 months. This clinical case shows the potential role of PET/CT in the assessment of the response of the inflammatory pseudotumor to corticosteroid therapy...

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are rare mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract and a rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. These tumors usually affect people over 50 years of age and they exhibit a wide range of clinical manifestations, including asymptomatic patients, nonspecific symptoms, obstruction or bleeding, which may delay diagnosis. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial because GISTs can be aggressive and metastasize. This case highlights the importance of considering GISTs in the differential diagnosis of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding...

BACKGROUND: While the effectiveness of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) seems similar in older patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) compared with younger patients, toxicities in older patients treated with TKIs more often lead to discontinuation of treatment. OBJECTIVE: To better understand the age-related pharmacology and pharmacodynamic differences in patients with GIST treated with TKIs, the primary aim of this study was to evaluate TKI dosing patterns in older patients with GIST, while the secondary aims were to evaluate differences in imatinib trough plasma concentrations between age groups and to compare the overall survival (OS) in patients with and without dose reductions in all treatment lines in a palliative setting...

IMPORTANCE: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) follow-up is recommended by international guidelines, but data on the role of follow-up in patients with low relapse risk are missing. For these patients, the potential benefit of anticipating recurrence detection should be weighed against psychological burden and radiologic examination loads in terms of costs and radiation exposure. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the outcomes of guideline-based follow-up in low-risk GIST...

BACKGROUND: Neoadjuvant imatinib is considered for gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) when decreased tumor size provides less extensive surgery and higher R0 resection rates. This study evaluates the effectivity and safety of neoadjuvant imatinib for large or locally advanced GIST. The dedifferentiation of the gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) has been reported in a small number of cases, usually under the pressure of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment. Herein, we described a de novo dedifferentiated GIST with the SDH deficiency in a 32-year-old Chinese woman. The tumor was located on the lesser curvature of the gastric antrum, measuring 4.1x9.1 cm2 . Microscopically, the tumor was composed of 2 distinct morphological populations, mild epithelioid cells arranged in the multinodular growth pattern and hyperchromatic spindle cells arranged in the fascicular or sheet-like architecture...

Jejunal gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are rare mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and a rare cause of massive GI bleeding. Due to this rarity and non-specific presentation, diagnosis and treatment may be difficult and often delayed. Urgent surgical intervention is crucial for controlling the source of bleeding and total tumor excision. Herein, we present the case of a 40-year-old male who presented to the emergency room (ER) with features of upper GI bleeding. He referred astheny and black stools, and was pale, sweaty, and tachycardic despite normal blood pressure...
