Background Previous brain studies of growth hormone deficiency (GHD) often used single-mode neuroimaging, missing the complexity captured by multimodal data. Growth hormone affects gut microbiota and metabolism in GHD. However, from a gut-brain axis perspective, the relationship between abnormal GHD brain development and microbiota alterations remains unclear. The ultimate goal is to uncover the manifestations underlying gut-brain axis (GBA) abnormalities in GHD and idiopathic short stature (ISS). Methods Participants included 23 GHD and 25 ISS children...

The present research had two aims. The first was to evaluate the effect of height and exposure on the vegetative response of olive canopies' vertical axis studied through a multispectral sensor and on the qualitative and quantitative product characteristics. The second was to examine the relationship between multispectral data and productive characteristics. Six olive plants were sampled, and their canopy's vertical axis was subdivided into four sectors based on two heights (Top and Low) and two exposures (West and East)...

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a malignant breast cancer. There is an urgent need for effective drugs to be developed for TNBC. Tubocapsicum anomalum ( T. anomalum ) has been reported to have an anti-tumor effect, and six novel withanolides were isolated from it and designated as TAMEWs. However, its anti-TNBC effect is still unknown. The results of an MTT assay indicated a higher sensitivity of TNBC cells to TAMEWs compared to other cells. TAMEWs induced apoptosis via mitochondrial dysfunction. They caused increased levels of lipid ROS and Fe2+ , with downregulation of GSH and cystine uptake, and it has been confirmed that TAMEWs induced ferroptosis...

Cognitive behavioral therapy is based on the view that maladaptive thinking is the causal mechanism of mental disorders. While this view is supported by extensive evidence, very limited work has addressed the factors that contribute to the development of maladaptive thinking. The present study aimed to uncover interactions between childhood maltreatment and multiple genetic differences in irrational beliefs. Childhood maltreatment and irrational beliefs were assessed using multiple self-report instruments in a sample of healthy volunteers ( N = 452)...

The application of cottonseed protein concentrate (CPC) is an effective strategy to moderate the shortage of fish meal (FM) for the aquafeed industry. However, little attention has been paid to the effects of replacing fishmeal with CPC on cyprinid fish. This study used common carp ( Cyprinus carpio ) as the biological model and assessed the potential of applying CPC as a substitute for fishmeal in the diet of common carp. The proportion of fish meal substituted with CPC in the six diets was 0% (CPC0), 25% (CPC25), 50% (CPC50), 75% (CPC75), and 100% (CPC100)...

Coilia nasus is an anadromous fish that has been successfully domesticated in the last decade due to its high economic value. The fish exhibits a delayed ovary development during the reproductive season, despite breeding and selection for five to six offspring. The molecular mechanism of the delayed ovary development is still unknown, so the obstacles have not been removed in the large-scale breeding program. This study aims to investigate the key genes regulating ovarian development by comparing the transcriptomes of ovarian-stage IV and stage II brain/pituitary of Coilia nasus ...

However, the effects of HFPO-TA exposure on nervous system toxicity are still unclear. Here, six-week-old male C57BL/6J mice were treated with 2, 20, and 200 μg/L HFPO-TA for six weeks. The goal of this study was to gather and compare kinematic response and injury data on both female and male whole-body Post-mortem Human Surrogates (PMHS) responses to Underbody Blast (UBB) loading. Midsized males (50th percentile, MM) have historically been most used in biomechanical testing and were the focus of the Warrior Injury Assessment Manikin (WIAMan) program, thus this population subgroup was selected to be the baseline for female comparison. Both small female (5th percentile, SF) and large female (75th percentile, LF) PMHS were included in the test series to attempt to discern whether differences between male and female responses were predominantly driven by sex or size...

Dysregulation of the IL-36 pathway leads to neutrophil aggregation and pustule formation. Variants in IL36RN, CARD14, AP1S3, MPO, SERPINA3, and BTN3A3 genes have been identified in GPP in the past. Some patients with ACH, PPP, and AGEP also exhibit mutations in IL36RN, CARD14, and AP1S3 genes, albeit with regional and population-specific variations...

Most extrauterine high-grade serous carcinomas (HGSCs) are thought to develop first in the distal fallopian tube. Most models of HGSC assume origin from relatively stable, noninvasive serous tubal intraepithelial carcinomas. However, widespread tumor involvement in the absence of a serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma could occur after catastrophic genomic events (CGEs; such as chromothripsis or polyploidy). Twenty-six HGSCs assigned to fallopian tube (n = 9, group 1) and/or ovary (n = 9, group 2), and primary peritoneal (n = 8, group 3) were assessed by microarray (Oncoscan)...

Chiral nanographenes (NGs) have garnered significant interest as optoelectronic materials in recent years. While helically chiral NGs have been extensively studied, axially chiral NGs have only witnessed limited examples, with no prior reports of axially chiral nonbenzenoid NGs. Herein we report an axially chiral nonbenzenoid nanographene featuring six pentagons and four heptagons. This compound, denoted as 2 , was efficiently synthesized via an efficient Pd-catalyzed aryl silane homocoupling reaction. The presence of two bulky 3,5-di- tert -butylphenyl groups around the axis connecting the two nonbenzenoid PAH (AHR) segments endows 2 with atropisomeric chirality and high racemization energy barrier, effectively preventing racemization of both R - and S -enantiomers at room temperature...
