OBJECTIVE: To analyze and summarize clinical manifestation of hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) due to anti-M. METHODS: Data of one case of HDN due to anti-M and the reports of 21 cases seen in the past 20 years at the home country were reviewed and analyzed. RESULTS: There was an increasing number of reports of cases with HDN due to anti-M. Among the 22 cases, four were the first fetus. Of 18 infants, ten were male, and eight were female...

Hydrops fetalis (HF) indicates excessive fluid accumulation within the fetal extravascular compartments and body cavities. HF is not a diagnosis in itself but a symptom, and the end-stage of a wide variety of disorders. In the era before routine immunization of Rhesus (Rh) negative mothers, most cases of hydrops were due to erythroblastosis from Rh alloimmunization, but nowadays, nonimmune hydrops fetalis (NIHF) is more frequent, representing 76-87% of all described HF cases. We performed a systematic review of the pertinent literature based on the QUality Of Reporting Of Meta-analyses (QUOROM) recommendations, using a QUOROM flowchart and QUOROM checklist...

INTRODUCTION: The Ballantyne syndrome (or mirror syndrome) is a gestational proteinuric hypertension associated with fetal hydrops. This report describes a case in which Ballantyne syndrome reversion occurred despite fetal hydrops persistence. CASE REPORT: A 24-year-old woman showed fetoplacental hydrops at 28 2/7 gestational weeks. Severe Rh(D) alloimmunization and fetal hemolytic anemia (fetal hematocrit 15.4%) were confirmed by cordocentesis, and an intrauterine transfusion was performed...
