Today, supply chain (SC) networks are facing more disruptions compared to the past. While disruptions are rare, they can have catastrophic long-term economic or societal repercussions, and the recovery processes can be lengthy. These can tremendously affect the SC and make it vulnerable, as observed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The identification of these concerns has prompted the demand for improved disruption management by developing resilient, agile, and adaptive SC. The aim of this study is to introduce an assessment framework for prioritizing and evaluating the determinants to supply chain resilience (SCR)...

Achondroplasia is an autosomal dominant disorder with defect in the ossification of the cartilage of long bones. Many bony abnormalities constitute its clinical features, with craniovertebral junction (CVJ) anomalies being one of most common issues which need to be addressed at the earliest. CVJ anomalies in individuals may cause neurovascular compression, which may warrant an early surgery to prevent catastrophic complications. Posterior circulation strokes secondary to CVJ anomalies are well known. We hereby present an unusual case of posterior circulation stroke in an achondroplastic dwarf who presented to our tertiary care centre...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Proximal femoral replacement due to revision hip arthroplasty or catastrophic proximal femur fracture fixation failures with considerable proximal femur bone loss can lead to a substantial loss of function of the soft tissue around the hip and the abductor muscles in particular. Surgical techniques of gluteus medius repair and/or abductor mechanism reattachment/reconstruction are widely debated in the literature, but it is quite rarely dealt with in the context of megaprosthesis and femoral reconstruction, particularly in non-oncologic patients...

Cancer is caused by a complex interaction of factors that interrupt the normal growth and division of cells. At the center of this process is the intricate relationship between DNA damage and the cellular mechanisms responsible for maintaining genomic stability. When DNA damage is not repaired, it can cause genetic mutations that contribute to the initiation and progression of cancer. On the other hand, the DNA damage response system, which involves the phosphorylation of the histone variant H2AX (γH2AX), is crucial in preserving genomic integrity by signaling and facilitating the repair of DNA double-strand breaks...

OBJECTIVE: Expectancies are known to shape pain experiences, but it remains unclear how different types of expectancies contribute to daily pain fluctuations in fibromyalgia. This combined experimental and diary study aims to provide insights into how experimentally-derived nocebo hyperalgesia and other, diary-derived, expectancy-related factors are associated with each other and with daily pain in fibromyalgia. METHODS: Forty-one female patients with fibromyalgia first participated in a lab procedure measuring nocebo hyperalgesia magnitude, then filled out an electronic diary 3 times a day over 3 weeks regarding the expectancy-related factors of pain expectancy, anxiety, optimism, and pain-catastrophizing thoughts, and current pain intensity...

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has resulted in catastrophic economic losses globally in poultry. This case report describes the diagnostic detection and pathology of HPAI H5N1 in 5-day-old commercial ducklings, which is an atypical age for detection of natural infection of HPAI in poultry. The pathology observed at 5 days of age was also compared to lesions observed in ducklings from the same flock evaluated at 10 days of age before depopulation. The California Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) Laboratory, Tulare, received ten 5-day-old Pekin duckling ( Anas platyrhynchos domesticus ) carcasses for diagnostic evaluation due to mortality that started increasing at 3 days of age...

BACKGROUND: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a catastrophic disease with little effective therapy, likely due to the limited understanding of the mechanisms underlying AAA development and progression. Activating transcription factor (ATF) 3 has been increasingly recognized as a key regulator of cardiovascular diseases. However, the role of ATF3 (activating transcription factor 3) in AAA development and progression remains elusive. METHODS: Genome-wide RNA sequencing analysis was performed on the aorta isolated from saline or Ang II (angiotensin II)-induced AAA mice, and ATF3 was identified as the potential key gene for AAA development...

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition associated with substantial suffering and societal costs. Traditional cognitive behavior therapy (T-CBT) is the most evaluated psychological treatment, but exposure therapy (Exp-CBT) has shown promise with a pronounced focus on the reduction of pain-related avoidance behaviors. In a recent randomized controlled trial (N = 274), we found that Exp-CBT was not superior to T-CBT (d = -0.10) in reducing overall fibromyalgia severity. This study investigated pain-related avoidance behaviors, pain catastrophizing, hypervigilance, pacing, overdoing and physical activity as potential mediators of the treatment effect...

The present study investigates the flexural failure properties of a hybrid laminate beam subjected to three-point bending. A symmetrically laminated hybrid beam is constructed using high-strain and inexpensive glass fibre on the top layers and low-strain and expensive carbon fiber on the middle layers. Classical lamination plate theory is used to find the stress and strain distribution that occurs due to the bending moment on the compressive side. The theoretical failure limits of the laminated hybrid beam are analyzed considering the targeted span-to-depth ratios, volume fractions of the fibers and hybrid ratios using the Tsai-Wu failure criterion and Matlab codes...

Aneurysms of the bifurcation of the internal carotid artery (ICA) represent approximately 5% of intracranial aneurysms and tend to occur in younger patients.1-3 They typically have a superior orientation, in close relationship with the medial (branches of the anterior cerebral artery, segment A1) and lateral (branches of the middle cerebral artery, segment M1) lenticulostriate arteries (LSA), including recurrent artery of Heubner (RAH). RAH commonly originates in the junction of A1 and A2, courses medially to laterally between LSA and anterior cerebral artery, ICA bifurcation, and middle cerebral artery before entering the lateral portion of the anterior perforated substance...
