Fabrication of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) with phytochemicals is an emerging green nanotechnology approach with therapeutic implications. Garlic, known for its culinary and medicinal properties, has been extensively investigated for its anticancer properties. Here, we report a method to substantially enhance the antiproliferative potency of garlic by functionalizing its phytochemicals to GNPs and demonstrate a possible mechanism of action of these nanoparticles in the triple-negative breast cancer cell line, MDA-MB-231...

Polythiophene (PT) is an important conducting polymer for its outstanding optoelectronic properties. Here, we delineate the self-assembly-driven optoelectronic properties of PT-peptide and PT-polymer conjugates, taking examples from recent literature reports. PT-peptide conjugates made by both covalent and noncovalent approaches are discussed. Poly(3-thiophene acetic acid) (P3TAA) covalently coupled with Gly-Gly-His tripeptide, C-protected and deprotected tripeptide H2 N-F-F-V-OMe, etc. exhibits self-assembly-driven absorbance, fluorescence, photocurrent, and electronic properties...

Hydrazine substituted thienopyrimidine, a new fluorophore, was used to synthesize a novel Schiff base R1 as a chemosensor via the condensation with p-formyltriphenylamine, and the structure was confirmed using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS) analysis. When treated with Cu2+ in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)/H2 O buffer, R1 showed a phenomenon of fluorescence quenching, which was reversible with the action of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). When treated with Fe3+ in dimethylformamide (DMF)/H2 O buffer, R1 exhibited the same phenomenon, but fluorescence was recovered with inorganic pyrophosphate (PPi) quantitatively...

A large number of microbial species tend to communicate and produce biofilm which causes numerous microbial infections, antibiotic resistance, and economic problems across different industries. Therefore, advanced anti-biofilms are required with novel attributes and targets, such as quorum sensing communication system. Meanwhile, quorum sensing inhibitors as promising anti-biofilm molecules result in the inhibition of particular phenotype expression blocking of cell-to-cell communication, which would be more acceptable than conventional strategies...

Aluminum metal cast composites (AMCCs) are frequently used in high-tech sectors such as automobiles, aerospace, biomedical, electronics, and others to fabricate precise and especially responsible parts. The mechanical and wear behavior of the metal matrix composites (MMCs) is anticipated to be influenced by the cooling agent's action and the cooling temperature. This research paper presents the findings of a series of tests to investigate the mechanical, wear, and fracture behavior of hybrid MMCs made of Al7075 reinforced by varying wt % of nano-sized Al2 O3 and Gr and quenched with water and ice cubes...

A central goal of photoprotective energy dissipation processes is the regulation of singlet oxygen (1 O2 *) and reactive oxygen species in the photosynthetic apparatus. Despite the involvement of 1 O2 * in photodamage and cell signaling, few studies directly correlate 1 O2 * formation to nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) or lack thereof. Here, we combine spin-trapping electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopies to track in real time the involvement of 1 O2 * during photoprotection in plant thylakoid membranes...

Phthalocyanines play fundamental roles as electron-acceptors in many different fields; thus, the study of structural features affecting electron-accepting properties of these macrocycles is highly desirable. A series of low-symmetry zinc(II) phthalocyanines, in which one, three, or four benzene rings were replaced for pyrazines, was prepared and decorated with electron-neutral (alkylsulfanyl) or strongly electron-withdrawing (alkylsulfonyl) groups to study the role of the macrocyclic core as well as the effect of peripheral substituents...

When Cu(II) reacts with ascorbic acid (AA) to form Cu(I), Cu(I) can combine with eosin Y (EY) to form ionic associations, resulting in significant fluorescence quenching of the EY. Based on the turn-off of fluorescence in the chemosensor EY, a green reaction is proposed herein for the detection of Cu(II). The novel detection method for Cu(II) demonstrates simplicity, high sensitivity, and excellent selectivity, rendering it suitable for analyzing environmental samples. A static fluorescence quenching mechanism is validated through the Stern-Volmer relationship, and the thermodynamic parameters of the reaction are explored using a van 't Hoff plot...

Ionic microenvironment of the nasal secretions especially calcium ions play essential role in the olfactory transmission. However, there is a critical need to determine the free calcium levels in healthy people's nasal secretions in contrast to those of patients with olfactory impairment. A selective spectrofluorometric method was created to quantify nasal calcium levels utilizing its quenching ability to the fluorescence of the functionalized carbon quantum dots. The surface of carbon quantum dots was functionalized with calcium ionophore A23187 and ion association complex, calcium phosphotungstate, to improve the selectively to quantify calcium ions...
