BACKGROUND: Cardiac arrest is a serious complication of acute myocardial infarction. The implementation of contemporary approaches to acute myocardial infarction management, including urgent revascularization procedures, has led to significant improvements in short-term outcomes. However, the extent of post-discharge mortality in patients experiencing cardiac arrest during acute myocardial infarction remains uncertain. This study aimed to determine the post-discharge outcomes of patients with cardiac arrest...

BACKGROUND: In a subset of patients, acute myocarditis (AM) may mimic acute myocardial infarction, with a similar clinical presentation characterized by chest pain, electrocardiogram (ECG) changes consistent with acute coronary syndromes (ACS), and serum markers increment. CASE SUMMARY: We present two cases of infarct-like myocarditis in patients with known coronary artery disease (CAD), in which the discrepancy between transthoracic echocardiogram findings, ECG, and angiography prompted us to look beyond the simplest diagnosis...

INTRODUCTION: Myocardial infarction (MI) is a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality worldwide. Many individuals who survive the acute event continue to experience heart failure (HF), with inflammatory and healing processes post-MI playing a pivotal role. Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) and monocytes infiltrate the infarcted area, where PMN release high amounts of the heme enzyme myeloperoxidase (MPO). MPO has numerous inflammatory properties and MPO plasma levels are correlated with prognosis and severity of MI...

This study aims to analyze the impact of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (CCVDs) mortality on Tianjin's life expectancy (LE) in 2004 compared with 2020 using Arriaga's decomposition method. The LE increment for Tianjin residents due to the decrease in CCVDs mortality was 1.54 years (38.7%). Males, females, urban residents, and rural residents contributed 1.29 years (36.83%), 1.76 years (40.25%), 2.11 years (44.41%), and 0.71 years (25.06%), respectively. A total of 38.2% of the LE increment was attributed to deaths from CCVDs in people aged ≥65 years...

Acute coronary syndrome is an umbrella term encompassing three types of coronary artery disease that affect millions worldwide annually. Despite the availability of diagnostic tests (blood analysis, imaging, electrocardiogram, and screening tools), the diagnosis of myocardial infarction (MI) is still sometimes missed. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the reported prevalence of heart disease is higher among males than females, with adults over the age of 75 having the highest prevalence...

In recent decades, natural products have attracted worldwide attention and become one of the most important resources for pharmacological industries and medical sciences to identify novel drug candidates for disease treatment. Tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) is an alkaloid extracted from Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort., which has shown great therapeutic potential in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, liver and renal injury, as well as cancer. In this review, we analyzed 1270 papers published on the Web of Science Core Collection from 2002 to 2022 and found that TMP exerted significant protective effects on ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury that is the cause of pathological damages in a variety of conditions, such as ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, acute kidney injury, and liver transplantation...

Recent studies have shown similar safety and efficacy of short-term dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) followed by P2Y12 inhibitor (P2Y12i) monotherapy when compared with standard DAPT. However, the optimal DAPT duration and regimen in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is still unclear. Online databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating P2Y12i monotherapy after short DAPT (≤3 months) vs standard DAPT (≥12 months) in ACS patients...

Primary cardiac tumours are relatively uncommon (75% are benign). Across the other 25%, representing malignant neoplasia, sarcomas account for 75-95%, and primary cardiac intimal sarcoma (PCIS) is one of the rarest findings. We aimed to present a comprehensive review and practical considerations from a multidisciplinary perspective with regard to the most recent published data in the specific domain of PCIS. We covered the issues of awareness amid daily practice clinical presentation to ultra-qualified management in order to achieve an adequate diagnosis and prompt intervention, also emphasizing the core role of MDM2 immunostaining and MDM2 genetic analysis...

Standard troponin has long been pivotal in diagnosing coronary syndrome, especially Non-ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI). The recent introduction of high-sensitivity troponin (hs-cTnI) has elevated it to the gold standard. Inflammation is closely associated with cerebrovascular diseases, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancers, and it is accompanied by the development of autoantibodies in the early stage of inflammation-related diseases. Hence, it is meaningful to discover novel antibody biomarkers targeting inflammation-related diseases. In this study, Jumonji C-domain-containing 6 (JMJD6) was identified by the serological identification of antigens through recombinant cDNA expression cloning. In particular, JMJD6 is an antigen recognized in serum IgG from patients with unstable angina pectoris (a cardiovascular disease)...

The high mortality rate among patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the main problems of modern cardiology. It is quite obvious that there is an urgent need to create more effective drugs for the treatment of AMI than those currently used in the clinic. Such drugs could be enzyme-resistant peptide analogs of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). GLP-1 receptor (GLP1R) agonists can prevent ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) cardiac injury. In addition, chronic administration of GLP1R agonists can alleviate the development of adverse cardiac remodeling in myocardial infarction, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus...

Background : The occurrence of ventricular tachyarrhythmias represents an established risk factor of mortality in heart failure (HF). However, data concerning their prognostic impact in heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF) is limited. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate patient characteristics associated with ventricular tachyarrhythmias and their prognostic impact in patients with HFmrEF. Myocardial remodeling is developed by increased stress in acute or chronic pathophysiologies. Stressed heart morphology (SHM) is a new description representing basal septal hypertrophy (BSH) caused by emotional stress and chronic stress due to increased afterload in hypertension. Acute stress cardiomyopathy (ASC) and hypertension could be together in clinical practice. Therefore, there are some geometric and functional aspects regarding this specific location, septal base under acute and chronic stress stimuli...
