BACKGROUND: Abnormal biogenesis and ribosome free function of ribosomal proteins (RPs) is important for tumorgenesis and development. Ribosomal protein L11 (RPL11) is a component of ribosomal 60 S large subunit with different roles in different cancers. Here, we aimed to unravel the role of RPL11 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), especially those affecting cell proliferation. METHODS: RPL11 expression in NCI-H1650, NCI-H1299, A549 and HCC827 and normal lung bronchial epithelial cells HBE was detected using western blotting...

Plant morphology was analyzed in the abr and ap1-1 single mutants, the abr ap1-1 double mutant, and abr mutant plants with extopic expression of the AP1 gene under the control of the 35S RNA constitutive promoter of the cauliflower mosaic virus (abr 35S::AP1). The level of AP1 gene expression was examined in wildtype plants and the abr mutant. The ABR gene was found to interact with the AP1 via dominant epistasis when determining the time of a transition to the reproductive developmental stage and the floral meristem identity...

INTRODUCTION: Diagnosis of afunctional duplex systems may be delayed as they are often associated with misleading and atypical symptoms. A 40-year-old female with no history of urological disease exemplifies this thesis. CASE REPORT: Symptoms at admission were fever with pain in the right flank and lower abdomen. Sonography showed a large unclear structure at the upper pole of the right kidney and a paravaginal abscess, which was drained primarily. Rising temperature led to examination by CT-scan, which revealed a renal abscess of the upper pole, suggesting a right extopic ureter...

Paired box-containing transcription factors play fundamental roles in pattern formation during embryonic development of diverse organisms ranging from Drosophila to mammals. Although mutations to Pax3 and other Pax-family genes in both mice and humans result in numerous tissue-specific morphological defects, little is known about the cellular processes that Pax genes regulate. We show that extopic Pax3 expression in two distinct phenotypically mesenchymal mammalian cell lines induces the formation of multi-layered condensed cell aggregates with epithelial characteristics...

Extopic parathyroid glands and rudimentary glands which are not detected during initial parathyroidectomy may develop hyperplasia in the future, causing recurrence of hyperthyroidism. We have devised an improved surgical strategy to prevent the recurrence of hyperparathyroidism. The strategy is to dissect all central lymph nodes and fatty tissue according to the procedure of the dissection of thyroid cancer. The upper level of the dissection area is the upper edge of the thyroid cartilage and the lateral level of the dissection includes the lateral edge of the bilateral carotid sheath...

The antiarrhythmic activity of intravenous moxaprindine was evaluated in 26 patients with cardiovascular disease; the mean maximum dose was 2.5 +/- 0.12 mg/kg. Ventricular extopics were completely abolished in 19 patients and significantly reduced in four patients, but were not favourably affected in three patients. In one patient with numerous runs of ventricular tachycardia, normal sinus rhythm was restored. Coupled ventricular ectopic activity always completely disappeared. At the maximum dose, the PR-interval (+27...

In a study of swine congenital anomalies, nine newborn piglets with varying degrees of optic hypotelorism including cyclopia were collected. Nasal and maxillary development were abnormal in all animals regardless of the degree of eye fusion. All animals except one had intact upper lips and hard palates that carried two or three small extopic teeth. The "snout" was only a medial wedge-shaped rudiment projecting from the upper lip. It was distally covered by a typical snout-like glabrous epithelium and carried small vibrissae...

Ureteral ectopias, which mostly occur in ureteral duplications, become noticeable in women quite early by characteristic clinical signs (dribble, or urinary incontinence). In males, it is usually only a stenosis-conditioned dilatation of the ureter that results in an uncharacter-istic pattern of complaints. The article presents the clinical pattern of signs and the x-ray findings in a man of 42 year of age, who had not reported any complaints until then, with an excessive dilatation of an extopically discharging single ureter...

An ectopic ureterocele is a congenital ballooning of the submucosal part of an extopic ureter in the bladder. It is a relatively common anomaly, usually presenting in childhood. The anatomy, functional pathology, and the clinical symptoms of this disease are described. The authors present a series of 15 cases seen over a 4-year period, 3 patients being adults. Diagnostic and therapeutic problems of this anomaly are discussed in the light of the reported cases.

Two patients with acromegaly have been treated with hypophysectomy. Because the disease was still active, the patients were reoperated. No pituitary tissue could be found at the second operations. Besides the acromegaly, one of the patients had diabetes mellitus (appeared after the first operation), Cushing's syndrome, probably ACTH-dependent, and evidence of thyrotoxicosis. In both patients extopic pituitary tissue was suspected. One of the patients reacted with a normal fall in plasma growth hormone to growth hormone releasing-inhibiting hormone...

Urinary incontinence was associated with an ectopic ureter in a 5-month-old, male Wire Fox Terrier. The dog regained urinary continence after transplantation of the ureter from the urethra into the urinary bladder. Of the 3 reported cases of extopic ureters in male dogs, 2 have been associated with urinary incontinence. These observations do not support the hypothesis that ectopic ureters are more frequently recognized in female than in male dogs because urinary incontinence is more commonly associated with the disorder in female dogs...

Liberalization of abortion laws in various countries and states of Europe and America has offered an opportunity for the study of the correlations between menstrual age and the rate of bodily development of human embryos and fetuses. In several institutions where local bylaws mandated the consent of the patients requesting therapeutic abortion to pathological investigation of the products of conception, various parameters of growth were measured systematically. These included crown-rump and foot lengths and body weight...

Over a four-year exposure period, the rate of ectopic pregnancy for women using a Copper T IUD was less than 1 per 1000 years of use. The cumulative 4-year probability of having an ectopic pregnancy while using the Copper T was 4 per 1000 women. These results are based on a study of 35,496 women with 38,064 years of use. Data on ectopic pregnancies in the United States provide a basis with which IUD experience may be compared. The National Hospital Discharge Survey shows a doubling in the number of ectopic pregnancies and in the incidence rates between 1965 and 1976...

Subsequently, lymphangitic pulmonary metastases were demonstrated which had been present radiographically for at least 4 yr. Basal serum calcitonin was markedly elevated and increased during calcium infusion. The diagnosis of ectopic ACTH syndrome was first entertained when hypokalemic alkalosis was observed during evaluation of her carcinoma. Elevated urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroids, 17-ketosteroids, plasma cortisol, and immunoreactive plasma ACTH levels were documented...
