This cross-sectional epidemiological study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of injuries among young archers engaged in high-intensity training during the European Youth Championship. A total of 200 participants (104 males/96 females) from 34 countries were included, with a mean age of 16.9 years and average competitive experience of 6.5 years. Structured questionnaires, administered by four physiotherapist interviewers, gathered comprehensive data. Results revealed that 43.5% of participants experienced shoulder pain during training, highlighting the vulnerability of upper limbs in archers...

Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is a candidate for screening programs because its prognosis is excellent when diagnosed at an early disease stage. Targeted screening of those at high risk for developing CM, a cost-effective alternative to population-wide screening, requires valid procedures to identify the high-risk group. Self-assessment of the number of nevi has been suggested as a component of such procedures, but its validity has not yet been established. We analyzed the level of agreement between self-assessments and examiner assessments of the number of melanocytic nevi in the area between the wrist and the shoulder of both arms based on 4548 study subjects in whom mutually blinded double counting of nevi was performed...

BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis (AC) of the glenohumeral joint is a recognized cause of pain associated with both active and passive restricted ranges of movement. AC can be subdivided into primary and secondary forms. Trauma, surgery, immobilization, and diabetes mellitus are the leading well-recognized causes of secondary AC. Calcific tendinitis/tendinitis (CT) of the rotator cuff is considered a possible trigger for AC, as reported in a few previous articles. However, there are no original investigations that assess the frequency and characteristics of this association...

Introduction Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a form of glucose intolerance that arises during pregnancy, affecting a significant portion of women. It has immediate and long-term effects on both the mother and fetus, including complications like preeclampsia, premature delivery, and an increased risk of cesarean sections. A cross-sectional study among Saudi Arabia's general population, which included 979 women aged between 18 and 60, found varying levels of awareness of GDM, emphasizing the need for more research on awareness levels regarding GDM in Saudi Arabia and more educational campaigns to improve awareness...

Poland syndrome is a congenital anatomical anomaly, characterised by partial or total aplasia of one side of the body causing abnormalities affecting the chest, shoulder, and upper limb. The exact mechanism that leads to this syndrome is unknown, but an abnormality in the vasculature formation or interruption of the blood supply of the subscapular artery and its branches early in development may be the main cause. Depending on the underlying mechanism, the syndrome has several expressions with some hardly being detectable and others not even being compatible with life...

We report on a 77-year-old male patient, who presented with excessive bone loss at the area of the greater trochanter after several hip revision surgeries resulting in a persistent friction syndrome caused directly by the rough surface and sharp edges of the prosthetic shoulder of a well-fixed Wagner-type revision stem. Surgery was performed by creating a cemented neotrochanter with an attached polyester patch around the proximal lateral shaft and performing a Z-plasty of the iliotibial tract. Twelve months postoperatively, the patient reported a reduction in subjective pain of 50% and improvement of the Harris Hip Score from 45 to 75 points...

BACKGROUND: Various arthroscopic rotator cuff repair techniques are being used for the treatment of rotator cuff tears with the development of surgical instruments. However, retears after repair are not completely avoidable, and efforts to reduce retears remain a challenge. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: To introduce a new repair technique, the double-row modified Mason-Allen technique with a single knot, and to compare clinical outcomes and retear rates with the single-row modified Mason-Allen technique...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Body shape and anthropometrics are well-known risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and mortality. Hand-grip strength (HGS) is also a meaningful marker of health and a promising predictor of CVD and mortality. There is a lack of studies that have systematically investigated associations between body shape and anthropometrics with HGS. In a population-based study, we investigated if anthropometric markers derived from 3D body scanning are related to HGS. METHODS AND RESULTS: We used the data of 1,599 individuals aged 36 to 93 years, who participated in the Study of Health in Pomerania...

INTRODUCTION: The risks and benefits of including an arthroscopic subacromial decompression (ASD) during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR) are uncertain. Some studies suggest no difference in revision surgery rates, whereas others have found higher revision surgery rates associated with concomitant ASD. In this study, we compare mid-term revision surgery rates in patients undergoing arthroscopic RCR with or without concomitant ASD. METHODS: A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted using a national all-payer claims database...

Apert syndrome, first described in the literature by a French pediatrician Eugene Apert, is a rare congenital form of acrocephalodactyly with autosomal dominant inheritance. Classically, this syndrome is characterized by craniosynostosis, midface hypoplasia, and symmetrical syndactyly of hands and feet resulting from embryonic anomalies during the third week of gestation. BACKGROUND: Chronic shoulder and neck pain is one of the most common chronic occupational disorders, with an average incidence rate of 48.5%, severely affecting patients' quality of life and ability to work. According to epidemiological research, the prevalence of chronic neck, shoulder, and low back pain in adults over the age of 45 ranges from 40 to 80%. According to reports, medical staff have a higher incidence rate than other populations, and there is a positive correlation between the grade of the medical institution and the incidence rate, making medical staff a priority group for the prevention of chronic neck, shoulder, and low back pain...
