The idea of a 'right to mental integrity', sometimes referred to as a 'right against mental interference,' is a relatively new concept in bioethics, making its way into debates about neurotechnological advances and the establishment of 'neurorights.' In this paper, we interrogate the idea of a right to mental integrity. First, we argue that some experts define the right to mental integrity so broadly that rights violations become ubiquitous, thereby trivialising some of the very harms the concept is meant to address...

BACKGROUND: Enhancing the quality of therapeutic engagement between nurse and service user is related to positive impact on care, safety, and recovery outcomes. Achieving improved therapeutic engagement remains challenging in the acute mental health inpatient setting, characterised by complex social processes and contextual features that constrain behaviour change. The Therapeutic Engagement Questionnaire is an evidence-based tool co-produced with service users and nurses to improve therapeutic engagement...

OBJECTIVES: In developing nations such as India, a disparity exists between the available resources for stroke rehabilitation and the substantial burden of stroke cases. Consequently, the provision of cost-effective and multidisciplinary post-stroke rehabilitation care to stroke survivors becomes of paramount importance. The utilization of mobile applications (apps) for stroke care has been on the rise, offering a personalized and pragmatic solution with the potential for wider reach in settings constrained by limited resources...

The development of DC microgrids is reliant on multi-input converters, which offer several advantages, including enhanced DC power generation and consumption efficiency, simplified quality, and stability. This paper describes the development of a multiple input supply based modified SEPIC DC-DC Converter for efficient management of DC microgrid that is powered by two DC sources. Here Multi-Input SEPIC converter offers both versatility in handling output voltage ranges and efficiency in power flow, even under challenging operating conditions like lower duty cycle values...

With each update of meta-analyses from living systematic reviews, treatment effects and their confidence intervals are recalculated. This often raises the question whether or not multiplicity is an issue and whether a method to adjust for multiplicity is needed. It seems that answering these questions is not that straightforward. We approach this matter by considering the context of systematic reviews and pointing out existing methods for handling multiplicity in meta-analysis. We conclude that multiplicity is not a relevant issue in living systematic reviews when they are planned with the aim to provide up-to-date evidence, without any direct control on the decision over future research...

BACKGROUND: There are 10 million admissions to U.S. prisons and jails each year. More than half of those admitted have mental health problems. The goal of this article is to inform: (1) implementation of evidence-based mental health treatments in prisons and jails, an important effort that needs more evidence to guide it; (2) psychotherapy and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) training efforts, especially in low-resource settings. METHODS: A randomized hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial of group IPT for major depressive disorder (MDD) in state prisons found that IPT increased rates of MDD remission and lowered posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms relative to prison treatment as usual...

The relationship between consciousness and individual agency is examined from a bottom-up evolutionary perspective, an approach somewhat different from other ways of dealing with the issue, but one relevant to the question of animal consciousness. Two ways are identified that would decouple the two, allowing consciousness of a limited kind to exist without agency: (1) reflex pathways that incorporate conscious sensations as an intrinsic component (InCs), and (2) reflexes that are consciously conditioned and dependent on synaptic plasticity but not memory (CCRs)...

Theories of rumination have proposed different psychological factors to place one at risk for repetitive negative thinking. A comprehensive empirical test that captures the most relevant contributors to rumination is lacking. Building on influential self-regulatory and metacognitive frameworks, we modeled how key constructs in this context relate to ruminative thinking. 498 participants completed online questionnaires including indicators of rumination, metacognition, promotion goal orientation, effortful control, and depression...

Health professional learners are increasingly called to learn about health inequity to reduce inequities and improve patient care and health outcomes. Anti-oppression pedagogy (AOP) addresses the need for health professional learners to understand multiple health inequities and the structures and systems that produce inequities. However, the inclusion of AOP in health professions education varies and there is a lack of clarity in its conceptualization and integration. A scoping review was conducted to address this gap and to understand how AOP is conceptualized and integrated in health professions education...

Researchers have documented multiple stressors and mental health problems along the journey of refugees as they are displaced to seek refuge in nearby and remote host countries. This article examines published research on Syrian refugees to propose a framework to conceptualize Syrian refugees' pre- and post-stressors and their collective impact on their mental health. The proposed framework provides a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected pathways between pre-displacement stressors, post-displacement stressors, and mental health outcomes for Syrian refugees...

In this paper, the authors develop a model of psychoanalytic clinical reasoning as the inferential process by which analytic therapists are able to arrive at an understanding of the clinical material. Starting from Bion's theory of functions, the authors propose that a "function" can be thought of as a condition-action sequence that analytic therapists implicitly use to respond to certain configurations of elements in the material by executing conceptual or reflective operations. To investigate the main families of functions that are used by analytic therapists in everyday practice, the authors used an interpersonal process recall procedure based on supervision sessions from a theoretically heterogeneous group of participants...

This research identifies a significant gap in the existing literature regarding a comprehensive ontology for vulnerabilities in medical IoT devices. This paper proposes a fundamental domain ontology named MIoT (Medical Internet of Things) ontology, focusing on cybersecurity in IoMT (Internet of Medical Things), particularly in remote patient monitoring settings...

The aim of this study was to explore and document the enablers and barriers of chiropractic care colocation in general practice at a large-scale private primary care centre in Australia. This study focused on the perceptions of healthcare professionals regarding this integration. Participant inclusion criteria included general medical practitioners, practice nurses, and medical managers who self-reported interactions with the physically collocated and integrated chiropractic practice...

BACKGROUND: Intervention development is a critical process in implementation research. There are key stages involved in the process to design, pilot, demonstrate and release a technology or an intervention. The Technology Readiness Level (TRL) is a globally accepted instrument for assessing the maturity of research development. However, the original levels do not fit all, and some adjustments are required for its applicability in implementation sciences. AIMS: This study aimed to gather the prior knowledge base on TRL in public and population health research; to develop a standard definition of readiness, and to adapt and validate the TRL to an implementation science context (TRL-IS)...

The conceptual dynamic ecosystem model was developed to evaluate the self-organization of trophic structure in ecosystems during the course of biogenic succession. This model was applied to analyze the possible changes in the ecosystem under impact of the anthropogenic physical stressor - chronic exposure to ionizing irradiation. The model predicts that amount of the limiting biogenic nutrient in the environment can modify the ecological effects of ionizing radiation. Negative effects of the chronic exposure are less significant in ecosystems with high food supply...

BACKGROUND: Implant-based breast reconstruction is the most prevalent form of breast reconstruction. Autologous fat grafting (AFG) was conceptualized as an alternative to implant-based breast reconstruction and was found to be a reliable reconstruction modality.
