Background Early detection of breast cancer is crucial for effective treatment and minimizing mortality, requiring effective screening methods like self-examination, clinical examination, and mammography. However, not all women in Saudi Arabia comply with these examinations, and studies examining its practice and barriers of low uptake are scant. The aim of this study is to investigate factors influencing breast cancer screening behavior among women in Saudi Arabia. Methods This cross-sectional study involving 806 women from October to November 2022 used an online questionnaire for the data collection process, including questions about demographic characteristics, awareness assessment, breast cancer screening behavior, symptoms, risk factors, and screening programs...

BACKGROUND: The current study shows that the incidence rate of triple-negative breast cancer accounts for 10-17% of invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast. There is no specific treatment target, the age of onset is relatively small, and the recurrence rate is relatively fast. The prognosis of breast cancer in different subtypes is the most unsatisfactory, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 15%. We report a typical case of metastatic advanced triple-negative breast cancer who responded well to apatinib mesylate after chemotherapy failure and achieved significant progression-free survival, which is relatively rare in triple-negative breast cancer with limited treatment means...

While national Lebanese studies done on breast cancer attest to the importance of awareness campaigns none, however, examine the type of content that most effectively reaches women. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to examine, through an experiment, the effectiveness of direct versus indirect messaging, in altering knowledge, risk perception, attitudes, behaviors and self-efficacy among two groups of women, those aged 18-40 and 41-65 years. Findings suggest that the designed breast cancer communication messages were perceived as informative, trustworthy and believable regardless of message type...

The Retinitis pigmentosa GTPase regulator interacting protein 1-like (RPGRIP1L) gene encodes an important protein that performs various physiological functions. Variants of RPGRIP1L are related to a number of diseases. However, it is currently unknown whether RPGRIP1L is correlated with breast invasive carcinoma (BRCA). In BRCA tissue specimens, the expression of RPGRIP1L was found to be elevated in comparison to its levels in normal breast tissue. A notable decline in survival rates was associated with patients exhibiting heightened RPGRIP1L gene expression...

TP53 pathogenic variants cause Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS), with some variants causing an attenuated phenotype. Herein, we describe the clinical phenotype and genetic characteristics of carriers of NM_000546.6 (TP53): c.541C > T, (p.Arg181Cys) treated at Hadassah Medical Center. We retrospectively examined our genetic databases to identify all carriers of TP53 p.Arg181Cys. We reached out to carriers and their relatives and collected clinical and demographic data, lifestyle factors, carcinogenic exposures as well as additional blood samples for genetic testing and whole exome sequencing...

BACKGROUND: In the context of cancer research, identifying social isolation and loneliness is a priority given how both exacerbate poor outcomes and lead to increased mortality in oncological populations. The purpose of this systematic review is to identify all quantitative instruments that have been used to assess either social isolation or loneliness in patients previously or currently diagnosed with cancer in the pre-COVID-19 period. METHOD: PubMed (Web), Scopus, CINAHL, and PsycINFO were searched on August 22, 2019...

BACKGROUND: Phyllodes tumors (PTs) account for 0.3-1.0% of all breast tumors and often occur in women aged 35 to 55. They are similar to giant fibroadenomas. PTs are famous for local recurrence. No more than 10% of PTs grow larger than 10 cm. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines recommend extensive resection with a margin of ≥1 cm for PTs, which is much larger than that required for breast cancer. Positive resection margin is associated with recurrence. However, little is known about whether all subtypes really require radical tumor negative resection margins...

PURPOSE: Genetic testing for gene mutations which elevate risk for breast cancer is particularly important for women diagnosed at a young age. Differences remain in access and utilization to testing across social groups, and research on the predictors of interest in genetic testing for women diagnosed at a young age is limited. METHODS: We examined the relationships between subjective social status (SSS) and variables previously identified as possible predictors of genetic testing, including genome sequencing knowledge, genetic worry, cancer worry, health consciousness, decision-making preferences, genetic self-efficacy, genetic-related beliefs, and subjective numeracy, among a cohort of women who were diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age...

OBJECTIVE: Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer incidence and mortality among Indonesian women. A comprehensive investigation is required to enhance the early detection of this disease. Mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNA-CN) and relative telomere length (RTL) have been proposed as potential biomarkers for several cancer risks, as they are linked through oxidative stress mechanisms. We conducted a case-control study to examine peripheral blood mtDNA-CN and RTL patterns in Indonesian breast cancer patients (n = 175) and healthy individuals (n = 181)...

Medical advocacy has continued to significantly impact quality of life and survivorship outcomes among Latina breast cancer survivors in the United States. However, little is known about the unique experiences of Latina survivors, including the perceived value, process, and context in which they practice medical advocacy. To help address this gap, we conducted a qualitative, secondary analysis of semi-structured focus groups with 18 Latina breast cancer survivors from Chicago, Illinois. Eligible women had to self-identify as (1) female, (2) Latina, (3) 18 years or older, and (4) having a breast cancer diagnosis 5 years ago or more...

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women accounting for about 30% of all new cancer cases and the incidence is constantly increasing. Implementation of mammographic screening has contributed to a reduction in breast cancer mortality of at least 20% over the last 30 years. Screening programs usually include all women irrespective of their risk of developing breast cancer and with age being the only determining factor. This approach has some recognized limitations, including underdiagnosis, false positive cases, and overdiagnosis...

Bone tumors of the upper limb are a common cause of bone pain and pathological fractures in both old and young populations. Surgical reconstruction and limb salvage have become valid options for these patients despite this kind of surgery being challenging due to the need for wide bone resection and the involvement of surrounding soft tissues. Computer-assisted technology helps the surgeon in pre-operative planning and in designing customized implants. The aim of this study was to investigate the surgical outcomes and complications of custom-made prostheses in oncologic reconstruction of the upper limb and if they are reliable options for patients suffering from aggressive tumors...
