Cystic echinococcosis is a parasitic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus . The transmission of the parasite to dogs occurs when organs of animals that harbor hydatid cysts are consumed. We present the case of a patient presented in the cardiology outpatient clinic with the signs and symptoms of predominant right-sided heart failure. Upon evaluation, a large hepatic septated cyst was revealed, which was compressing the right chambers of the heart, altering diastolic filling, and causing right-sided heart failure...

Hydatid disease in humans is caused by accidental ingestion of Echinococcus in its larval form. It mostly affects the liver and lungs, but rarely the mediastinum and other areas as well. The diagnosis is mostly confirmed intraoperatively in cases of mediastinal disease. The mainstay of treatment in such cases is surgery. This is a case report of a rare finding of hydatid disease in mediastinum along with the abdomen and its surgical management.

Drug-resistant tuberculosis is a noteworthy threat to public health, especially in high-burden countries. Management of these types of tuberculosis is lengthy and associated with a number of adverse drug reactions. Pre-extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis is a serious type of disease that is caused by the strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis that are resistant to either rifampicin or both, i.e., rifampicin and isoniazid, and resistant to any fluoroquinolones. A splenic hydatid cyst is relatively rare and has never been reported in a case of pre-extensively drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis...

OBJECTIVE: Hydatid cyst is an endemic disease in Iran. The treatment of choice for paediatric lung hydatid cysts is surgical removal of the cyst. However, due to its high prevalence the risk of recurrence after the surgery, cystectomy with capitonnage, which preserves the lung tissue, is a favourable surgical approach compared to lobectomy. Herein, the authors compared the outcome of cystectomy and lobectomy of lung hydatid cysts. METHODS AND MATERIALS: This is a retrospective study conducted in the paediatric surgery department...

INTRODUCTION: Hydatosis is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by echinococcosis larval infection. South America, Africa, the Middle East, South Europe, India, and Australia are endemic to this disease. Splenic involvement is a rare and complicated hydatid disease presentation. A splenic hydatid cyst is an infrequent clinical occurrence, even in regions where the disease is endemic. CASE PRESENTATION: A 16-year-old male, having a background of mild abdominal trauma and non-resolving dull abdominal pain attended a paediatric surgical outpatient office and following a thorough examination, was diagnosed with a giant solitary isolated splenic hydatid cyst...

Pulmonary hydatid disease remains a global public health issue. Symptoms often result from cyst rupture, causing fever, cough, and hemoptysis. Radiographs may show homogeneous masses, air-fluid levels, or the pathognomonic "water lily" sign. Surgical removal is the primary treatment, with early diagnosis crucial to prevent acute hypersensitivity reactions and death.

We depict a unique case of a 34-year-old woman who presents to the emergency department with complaints of dyspnea and chest pain for the past month. A chest x-ray (CXR) from an earlier urgent care visit was concerning for large fluid opacity in the left lung and follow-up imaging revealed a cystic mass suspicious of a pulmonary cystic abscess. The patient underwent complete lobectomy and resection. Post-surgical biopsy confirmed pulmonary hydatid cystic mass and signs of rupture or seeding to liver tissue...

Pulmonary echinococcosis is a parasitic infection that accounts for 20% of the infected cases with echinococcosis. Patients may present after a cyst rupture associated with a variety of complications, including acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is known as supportive therapy for patients with respiratory and cardiac failure, including ARDS associated with multiple causes. Parasitic infection associated with ARDS due to cyst rupture managed with ECMO as bridging to definitive surgical intervention is documented in two previous case reports only...

Cystic echinococcosis is caused by the zoonotic tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus. There has been ongoing controversy over whether it causes weight loss in cattle. Recently implemented recording of comorbidities at processors has provided opportunity to investigate this effect. Using prevalence-based observational data from 1,648,049 adult cattle processed in seven states and territories in Australia (2019-2022), we explored associations between carcase weight, hydatid cysts, comorbidities, sex, age, and region...

Hydatid disease is a zoonotic parasitic infestation caused by tapeworms, particularly Echinococcus granulosus . The lung is the second most site followed by liver accounting for 10%-30% of the cases. Rupture of hydatid cyst can occur into pleura or bronchus. Surgery remains the mainstay of treatment for pulmonary hydatid.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Primary (isolated) splenic hydatid cyst is rare and accounts for less than 2 % of hydatid patients, even in endemic regions. Diagnosis of splenic hydatid cyst can be challenging due to the rarity of the condition and its nonspecific symptoms. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment. BACKGROUND: Echinococcosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus . Usually, the liver is the most affected organ, accounting for approximately 70% to 85% of cases. The lungs represent 20% of the cases. Fewer than 10% are found in other sites, including the bone, brain, spleen, and kidneys. Cardiac echinococcosis is a rare and severe manifestation of hydatid disease. It is caused by parasitic infestation by the Echinococcus species and can lead to life-threatening complications. Diagnosis is difficult due to nonspecific symptoms, but echocardiography is a highly sensitive diagnostic method. Albendazole treatment is effective in managing these cysts and can be an alternative to surgery. A patient with multiple cardiac hydatid cysts was successfully treated with albendazole, highlighting the importance of prompt diagnosis and treatment to prevent life-threatening complications...

Echinococcus granulosus is predominantly found in the liver and can be effectively managed through antihelminthic therapy, surgical intervention, or interventional radiology. Percutaneous treatment (PT) has gained widespread popularity due to its minimally invasive nature. An integral step in surgical and PT procedures involves the utilization of protoscolicidal agents to eliminate the parasites. However, the administration of protoscolicidal agents carries the risk of inducing caustic sclerosing cholangitis (SC) if there is a communication between the cyst and the biliary tract...
