Hemangiomas are benign soft tissue tumors which are congenital and occur due to abnormal proliferations of blood vessels. Most common location of hemangiomas is subcutaneous adipose tissue, but skeletal muscle hemangiomas are very rare which make up to 0.8% of all hemangiomas. Usually, the intramuscular lesions are common in thigh region and calf muscles and are relatively rare in the facial muscles. Long-standing lesions results in phleboliths, and this may cause some symptoms. Conventional treatment of these isolated lesions may not yield satisfactory results...

Septorhinoplasty (SRP) is one of the most common aesthetic procedures worldwide. A thin or scarred soft tissue envelope, especially in the context of secondary SRP, can lead to unpredictable scarring, shrinkage, and discoloration of the skin. Other than the careful preparation of the soft tissue mantle, no gold standard exists to minimize the above-mentioned risks. Our aim was to create a thin "separation layer" between the nasal bridge (osseous and cartilaginous) and the skin envelope by autologous fat transfer with the addition of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) to conceal small irregularities, to improve the quality of the skin soft tissue mantle, and to optimize the mobility of the skin...

Congenital midline cervical cleft is a rare anomaly classified as a malformation of the branchial arches and represents less than 2% of congenital cervical malformations. Its clinical presentation involves cervical midline deformities: cephalic nodular lesion, linear groove with atrophic surface, and/or caudal sinus. Other midline alterations of variable complexity may also be present. Early treatment allows for avoiding long-term complications. Based on our experience in four clinical cases, a performed literature search on the topic in the last twenty years, and subsequent discussion of the employed surgical approaches, we included 150 reported cases in our review...

BACKGROUND: Breast conservation therapy typically consists of lumpectomy, which often leads to poor cosmetic outcomes. Concurrent oncoplastic reductions are performed to maximize aesthetics and patient outcome. We present an oncoplastic breast reconstruction in a breast re-reduction case in this study. METHODS: A 62-year-old female was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma of the left upper outer breast by core needle biopsy. The patient had a prior bilateral breast reduction using a superior-central pedicle approach 15 years ago and desired breast conservation therapy...

BACKGROUND: OpenAI's ChatGPT can generate novel ideas for a number of applications. The aim of this study was to prompt the chatbot to generate possible innovations in aesthetic surgery relating to rhinoplasty. METHODS: ChatGPT was prompted to develop rhinoplasty patents. The resulting outputs were tabulated and categorized based on technology domain and anatomic location. A Google Patents search was conducted to find uses of the term "rhinoplasty" between 2021 and 2023...

BACKGROUND: Despite a trend towards combining abdominoplasty with breast reduction surgery, so called "mommy makeovers", the safety of this combined approach has been the subject of debate, with previous research yielding conflicting results. We evaluated the risk for complications and revision associated with adding abdominoplasty to bilateral breast reduction surgery. METHODS: We conducted a 10-year single-center retrospective chart review of bilateral breast reduction patients in Nova Scotia...

BACKGROUND: ChatGPT is a free artificial intelligence (AI) language model developed and released by OpenAI in late 2022. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of ChatGPT to accurately answer clinical questions (CQs) on the Guideline for the Management of Blepharoptosis published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) in 2022. METHODS: CQs in the guideline were used as question sources in both English and Japanese. For each question, ChatGPT provided answers for CQs, evidence quality, recommendation strength, reference match, and answered word counts...

Lactic acid is the most widely occurring natural organic acid in nature. It not only exhibits mild and safe properties but also possesses multiple physiological activities, such as antibacterial effects, immune regulation, and promotion of wound healing, making it one of the most popular chemical peeling agents. Chemical peels are commonly used in the field of aesthetic dermatology as a non-invasive therapeutic approach. This research aims to provide valuable references for clinical dermatologists by summarizing the characteristics of lactic acid, elucidating its mechanism of action in peeling, and investigating the clinical applications of this compound...

Introduction: Surgical excision with margin of 2 cm is the treatment of choice in malignant cutaneous melanoma when Breslow index is >1 mm. When located on the lower limb, these resections can lead to large defects that require complex reconstruction in order to salvage the limb. The use of propeller-perforator flaps has multiple advantages such as the preservation of adjacent muscles, decrease in morbidity in the donor site, and good aesthetic and functional results. Our objective is to expose our experience and results with the use of propeller-perforator flaps for coverage of this kind of defects...

It aims to elucidate the varied composition, purpose, and performance of these slender materials. METHODS: The article contextualizes thread lifting materials by exploring their literal and material significance. The evolution of these materials is traced, emphasizing the preexistence of cog threads for tissue manipulation before their widespread adoption in plastic surgery...

INTRODUCTION: Lipoabdominoplasty is one of the most common abdominal body contouring procedures performed today; however, it carries the risk of significant complications. Pneumothorax is a rare complication of liposuction, while, venous thromboembolism has a low short-term mortality and long-term morbidity. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 57-year-old woman with a history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, and severe COVID-19 three years earlier. BACKGROUND: Lacking a nasal tip projection is a common deformity of Asian nasals. Various commonly used nasal tip grafts require dissecting septal perichondrium, most of them are autologous cartilage with a nonintegrated design. A snake-shaped expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) nasal tip graft is an integrated, stable tip graft without any additional assembly and splicing, conforming to the nasal anatomy characteristics of Asians. METHOD: A retrospective study was performed on Asian patients who underwent rhinoplasty in the nasal tip at Peking University Third Hospital from 2015 to 2022...

The aging process of lower eyelids results in lower eyelid wrinkles, tear troughs, and eye bags. Many therapies have been described for treatment of lower eyelid aging, and transcutaneous blepharoplasty is often used for treating cases with eyebags and dermatochalasis. However, it may cause depression near the medial orbit resulting in a hollowed look. In the present study, we developed an innovative method transferring the herniated fatty tissue to volume loss area during the surgical procedure of transcutaneous lower eyelid blepharoplasty by means of micro-autologous fat transplantation harvested from resected orbital fat pads...
