The inability to identify the structures of most metabolites detected in environmental or biological samples limits the utility of nontargeted metabolomics. The most widely used analytical approaches combine mass spectrometry and machine learning methods to rank candidate structures contained in large chemical databases. Given the large chemical space typically searched, the use of additional orthogonal data may improve the identification rates and reliability. Here, we present results of combining experimental and computational mass and IR spectral data for high-throughput nontargeted chemical structure identification...

Sugar-rich waste streams, generated in very high quantities worldwide, constitute an important source of environmental pollution. Their eco-friendly conversions into a plethora of added-value compounds through the use of microbial fermentations is currently a very "hot" scientific topic. The aim of this study, was to assess the potential of single cell oil (SCO), microbial mass and citric acid (CA) production by non-conventional yeast strains growing on expired ("waste") glucose. Six yeast strains ( viz . Rhodosporidium toruloides DSM 4444, Rhodotorula glutinis NRRL YB-252, R...

Vegetables, which are an important part of human nutrition, are very rich in minerals necessary for human health, and heavy metals can be found in vegetables at high rates because they can be easily taken by plant roots and leaves. In this study, the macro, micro element and heavy metal element concentrations accumulated in different parts of some carrot and radish types were investigated. The element concentrations in the samples were analyzed by Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES; Varian-Vista Model) equipment...

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study is to demonstrate whether radiomics based on an automatic segmentation method is feasible for predicting molecular subtypes. METHODS: This retrospective study included 516 patients with confirmed breast cancer. An automatic segmentation-3-dimensional UNet-based Convolutional Neural Networks, trained on our in-house data set-was applied to segment the regions of interest. A set of 1316 radiomics features per region of interest was extracted...

BACKGROUND: The medication package leaflet is the most used and trusted source of information in the home situation but is often incomprehensible for individuals, especially for those with limited health literacy. The platform "Watchyourmeds" comprises a web-based library with over 10,000 animated videos that explain the most essential information from the package leaflet in an unambiguous and simple manner to increase the accessibility and understandability of package leaflets. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate Watchyourmeds in the Netherlands from a user perspective during the first year of implementation by investigating (1) usage data, (2) self-reported user experiences, and (3) the preliminary and potential impact on medication knowledge...

During and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, several works reflected on young people's physical and psychological health. The Dual Factor Model, which we refer to as the quadripartite model, is useful for understanding children's and adolescents' psychological health and differentiating them regarding their attitude toward the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Roxadustat is a novel and effective small-molecule inhibitor of hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PHI). However, little research has been done on its toxicity to vertebrate embryonic development. In this study, we used zebrafish to assess the effects of roxadustat on early embryonic development. Exposure to 14, 28, and 56 μM roxadustat resulted in abnormal embryonic development in zebrafish embryos, such as shortened body length and early liver developmental deficiency. Roxadustat exposure resulted in liver metabolic imbalance and abnormal liver tissue structure in adult zebrafish...

BACKGROUND: A growing global shortage of health workers is limiting access to health care, especially in resource-limited countries. Family participation in hospital care could enhance care while tackling health worker shortages. With the same resources, it might deliver additional and more personalised care. This review assessed the effect and safety of family participation interventions in the care of hospitalised adults in resource-limited settings and, ultimately, if it is a viable strategy to tackle health worker shortages...

Interactions of human serum albumin (HSA) with two structurally similar quinazolin derivatives, S1 and S2 , which are potential anticancer drugs acting on PI3K/mTOR targets, were investigated in vitro utilizing multiple spectroscopy as well as molecular docking. The fluorescence quenching study demonstrated that HSA's fluorescence could be statically quenched by S1 and S2 through the formation of the HSA-drug complex. Furthermore, the details of the binding site number, binding constant, as well as thermodynamic parameters were estimated at 298, 303, and 310 K...

OBJECTIVE: Time from stroke onset to reperfusion (TSOR) is strongly associated with outcomes after endovascular treatment. A near-to-complete or complete reperfusion (modified Treatment in Cerebral Ischemia [mTICI] 2c-3) is associated with improved outcomes compared with a successful reperfusion (mTICI 2b). However, it is unknown whether this association remains stable as TSOR increases. Therefore, we sought to investigate the association between TSOR and outcomes according to the reperfusion status...

This study aimed to determine the association between the plasma concentration of nevirapine (NVP) and clinical outcomes. In this cross-sectional study, sociodemographic and clinical data were collected from 233 HIV patients receiving NVP-based first-line antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens in Nairobi, Kenya. The mean age was 41.2 (SD ± 11.9) years. Fifty-four (23.2%) patients had virological failure (>1000 copies/mL), whereas 23 (9.9%) were infected with drug-resistant HIV strains. Eleven patients had nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor resistance mutations, including M184V and T215Y, whereas 22 had non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor resistance mutations, including G190A, K103N, V106A, Y181C, A98G, and Y188L...

The large order Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory (RSPT) was applied for calculating vibrational states of linear molecules. Two molecules (CO2 and C2 H2 ) were used as test cases with using of isomorphic Watson Hamiltonian and quartic force fields. For CO2 the Sayvetz condition can remove all degeneracies for purely vibrational states and the non-degenerate perturbation theory can be applied. However, an existence of two degenerate modes in C2 H2 requires using the upgraded degenerate version of RSPT that was employed in this context for the first time...

INTRODUCTION: Hazardous alcohol use (HAU), defined as a pattern of alcohol consumption that increases the risk of harmful consequences for the user or others, is associated with an elevated risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and poor health outcomes. We describe the association between people living with HIV (PLHIV) who report HAU and key HIV indicators. Gaps in current literature in estimating HAU on HIV outcomes at the regional level of Eastern and Southern Africa still exist and our analysis aims to address this issue...
