This systematic review aims to find effectful healthcare strategies, with special focus on drug-free interventions and physical therapy, as part of the treatment for sleep in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Data search was conducted across seven scientific databases. This review is deposited in the Prospero International prospective register of systematic reviews (CRD42023452574). Seventeen RCTs from different healthcare fields complied with our inclusion criteria. Two RCTs investigated manual therapy, five RCTs therapeutic exercise, one RCT Fu's subcutaneous needling, two RCTs physical agents (one on balneotherapy and one on cryo-stimulation), two RCTs cognitive-behavioral therapy, and four RCTs pharmacological therapy and their effect on sleep quality and/or quantity in patients suffering from chronic pain...

The Circumpolar region, comprising the Arctic territories encircling the North Pole, is home to diverse Indigenous cultures facing unique socio-economic challenges. Indigenous communities such as the Inuit, Sámi, Athabaskan, Gwitchin, and Russian Arctic groups exhibit rich traditions and adaptive practices tied to their environments. Environmental diversity, from icy tundra to boreal forests, influences livelihoods and biodiversity, while significant socio-economic disparities persist, impacting access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities...

BACKGROUND: In 2020, a novel neurologic disease was observed in juvenile Quarter Horses (QHs) in North America. It was unknown if this was an aberrant manifestation of another previously described neurological disorder in foals, such as equine neuroaxonal dystrophy/equine degenerative myeloencephalopathy (eNAD/EDM). HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES: To describe the clinical findings, outcomes, and postmortem changes with Equine Juvenile Spinocerebellar Ataxia (EJSCA), differentiate the disease from other similar neurological disorders, and determine a mode of inheritance...

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of pyelonephritis in cats is challenging and development of a noninvasive and accurate biomarker is needed. HYPOTHESES: Serum amyloid A (SAA) is increased in cats with pyelonephritis, but not in cats with other urinary tract diseases. ANIMALS: A cohort of 125 cats (149 observations). METHODS: This was a prospective study. Group 1 included cats with a diagnosis of pyelonephritis either confirmed by bacterial culture of pelvic urine (Group 1a) or presumed (1b)...

Ketogenic diet therapy (KDT) is a safe and effective treatment for epilepsy and glucose transporter type 1 (GLUT1) deficiency syndrome in infancy. Complete weaning from breastfeeding is not required to implement KDT; however, breastfeeding remains uncommon. Barriers include feasibility concerns and lack of referrals to expert centres. Therefore, practical strategies are needed to help mothers and professionals overcome these barriers and facilitate the inclusion of breastfeeding and human milk during KDT. A multidisciplinary expert panel met online to address clinical concerns, systematically reviewed the literature, and conducted two international surveys to develop an expert consensus of practical recommendations for including human milk and breastfeeding in KDT...

BACKGROUND: The epidemic of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) poses a great challenge to depression. However, the prevalence of depression among ACS patients has not been fully determined. This meta-analysis aimed to provide an estimation of the global prevalence of depression among ACS patients (ACS depression). METHODS: Online databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched for all relevant studies that reported the prevalence of ACS depression through March 2023...

To investigate the clinical efficacy and knee joint kinematic changes of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction assisted by Chinese knotting technique (CKT). A retrospective analysis was conducted on 88 cases of PCL reconstructive surgery admitted between September 2016 and September 2020. All patients were operated on by the same senior doctor and his team. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to whether the CKT was applied, with 44 cases in each group. Both groups received active rehabilitation treatment after surgery...

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease that is highly prevalent in the elderly population. Along with the occurrence of sports injuries, osteoarthritis is gradually showing a younger trend. Osteoarthritis has many causative factors, and its pathogenesis is currently unknown. Cellular senescence is a stable form of cell cycle arrest exhibited by cells in response to external stimuli and plays a role in a variety of diseases. And it is only in the last decade or so that cellular senescence has gradually become cross-linked with osteoarthritis...

Whether Latinx families use youth mental health services (MHS) depends on complex influences of barriers and facilitators within and outside of the home. This research sought to shed light on caregiver strain as part of the equation focused on parental identification and responses to youth mental health needs. We examined multiple dimensions of caregiver strain as potential mediators between youth mental health symptom severity and psychological counseling utilization. The present sample consisted of 598 Latinx caregivers to youths ages 6-18 who provided information on youth internalizing and externalizing problems, caregiver strain, and youth psychological counseling service utilization within the last year...

Thymus vulgaris, commonly known as thyme, is a plant renowned for producing monoterpenes. This study aimed to understand the effects of low-dose gamma radiation, specifically in the range of 1-5 Gy, on various traits of Thymus vulgaris, providing context on its importance in agricultural and medicinal applications. The research explored morpho-physiological, biochemical, and gene-expression responses in thyme plants under no gamma- and gamma-ray exposure conditions. The study revealed complex relationships between gamma-ray doses and plant characteristics...

BACKGROUND: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) represents the hepatic manifestation of increased adiposopathy, whose pathogenetic features have been proposed as tumourigenic triggers for colorectal cancer (CRC). We aim to identify specific metabolic signatures involved in CRC development that may be used as non-invasive biomarkers, paving the way for specific and personalized strategies of CRC prevention and early detection. METHODS: We retrospectively assessed CRC onset during a time frame of 8 years in a cohort of 1145 out-patients individuals who had previously been evaluated for Metabolic Syndrome...

The study aimed to calculate training intensity and load using muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2 ) during two differentiated physical tasks. 29 university athletes participated in a 40-m Maximal Shuttle Run Test (MST, 10 × 40-m with 30 s recovery between sprints) and a 3000-m time trial run. Distance and time were used to calculate external load (EL). Internal load indicators were calculated based on percentage of maximum heart rate (%HRMAX ) and SmO2 variables: muscle oxygen extraction (∇%SmO2 ) and the cardio-muscle oxygen index (CMOI) was also provided by relating ∇%SmO2 ÷ %HRMAX , and the training load were calculated as the product of speed (m/min × IL) and the efficiency index [Effindex (m/min ÷ IL)]...
