Due to the differences in land cover and natural surroundings within cities, residents in various regions face different thermal risks. Therefore, this study combined multi-source data to analyze the relationship between urban heat risk and local climate zones (LCZ). We found that in downtown Shenyang, the building-type LCZ was mainly found in urban centers, while the natural- type LCZ was mainly found in suburbs. Heat risk was highest in urban centers, gradually decreasing along the suburban direction. The thermal risk indices of the building-type LCZs were significantly higher than those of the natural types...

Many drugs have been shown to be metabolized by the human gut microbiome, but probiotic-driven drug-metabolizing capacity is rarely explored. Here, we developed an integrated metabolomics, culturomics, and bionics framework for systematically studying probiotics-driven drug metabolism. We discovered that 75% (27/36 of the assayed drugs) were metabolized by five selected probiotics, and drugs containing nitro or azo groups were more readily metabolized. As proof-of-principle experiments, we showed that Lacticaseibacillus casei Zhang (LCZ) could metabolize racecadotril to its active products, S-acetylthiorphan and thiorphan, in monoculture, in a near-real simulated human digestion system, and in an ex vivo fecal co-culture system...

Landscape classification methods significantly impact the exploration of the mechanism of the relationship between landscapes and atmospheric particulate matter. This study compared the local climate zones (LCZs) and traditional land use/cover change (LUCC) landscape classification methods in explaining spatial differences in concentrations of atmospheric particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10 ) and explored the mechanisms involved in how landscape elements affect atmospheric particulate matter. This was done by establishing a PM2...

Understanding the thermal characteristics and contribution ranking of local climate zones (LCZs) is essential since they can help in maintaining environmental harmony. However, previous studies only considered independent effects and could not analyze the combined effects of LCZ on land surface temperature (LST). In this study, we propose a new method to establish an interaction model between LCZs. Five first-level grids with different scales from 270 to 990 m were established to calculate the area proportion of LCZ...

Luliconazole (LCZ), a novel imidazole drug, has broad-spectrum and potential antifungal effects, which makes it a possible cure for fungal keratitis; nevertheless, its medical use in ocular infections is hindered by its poor solubility. The purpose of this study was to design and optimize LCZ nanoemulsion (LCZ-NE) formulations using the central composite design-response surface methodology, and to investigate its potential in improving bioavailability following ocular topical administration. The LCZ-NE formulation was composed of Capryol 90, ethoxylated hydrogenated castor oil, Transcutol® P and water...

Greece was affected by a prolonged and extreme heat wave (HW) event (July 28-August 05) during the abnormally hot summer of 2021, with the maximum temperature in Athens, the capital of the country, reaching up to 43.9 °C in the city center. This observation corresponds to the second highest maximum temperature recorded since 1900, based on the historical temperature time series of the National Observatory of Athens weather station at Thissio. In the present study, a multi-scale numerical modeling system is used to analyze the urban climate and thermal bioclimate in the Athens urban area (AUA) in the course of the HW event, as well as during 3 days prior to the heat wave and 3 days after the episode...

Expansion of urban areas and alteration of natural land cover exacerbate the local climate change. To find out the effect of land cover changes on the local climate, in this study, the Local Climate Zone (LCZ) concept was utilized to detect urban morphology in Tehran Metropolis. LCZ and Land Surface Temperature (LST) can be identified and classified based on available remote sensing products. Firstly, LCZ maps of Tehran metropolis were extracted using Landsat imagery, and secondly, relationships between LCZ and LST were explored for three years (1990, 2004, and 2018)...

While analyzing the heat island intensity, the neural network training method was used to obtain temperature data with good temporal as well as spatial resolution. Combining degree-days with the division of LCZs, a more accurate distribution of energy demand can be obtained by different regions...

Onychomycosis is the most common fungal infection of the nail affecting the skin under the fingertips and the toes. Oral antifungal medication has been associated with poor drug bioavailability and potential gastrointestinal and systemic side effects. The objective of this study was to prepare and evaluate the luliconazole nail lacquer (LCZ-NL) for the effective treatment of onychomycosis. This study utilized a hybrid GIS- and remote sensing imagery-based framework to systematically compare and evaluate different machine and deep learning methods. The Convolution Neural Network (CNN) classifier outperforms in terms of accuracy, but it requires multi-pixel input, which reduces the output's spatial resolution and creates a tradeoff between accuracy and spatial resolution...

Over 61000 maps (2008-2014) were extracted in NetCDF format and processed in geographic-information-systems (GIS). An urban mask was created from the recently updated Local Climate Zones (LCZ) classification for this area and a cell of the LCZ class "Low Plants" (non-urban) was chosen to calculate the temperature difference...

A solar pond is a simple system that collects and stores heat for thermal and electrical applications. Heat storage and heat extraction are the key factors in the solar pond. Salt is added to the pond with fresh water to form a salinity gradient solar pond (SGSP). The solar pond comprises of three zones, namely, the upper convective zone (UCZ), the non-convective zone (NCZ) and the lower convective zone (LCZ). The LCZ is also called the storage zone. Generally, the LCZ stores the heat energy of the incoming solar radiation, and this heat may be used for various applications...

The gut microbiota and their responses towards Lactobacillus casei Zhang (LCZ) intervention were characterized (at days 0, 7, and 14; 14 days after stopping probiotic intake), and region-based differential responses were observed after LCZ intervention...
