This study investigated the distribution of ofloxacin-resistant Escherichia coli (OFXR-EC) in broiler parent flocks (PS) treated with ofloxacin for 5 days from the time the chicks arrived at the poultry house, and their broiler offspring. OFXR-EC was detected in 22.95% of neonatal parent stock chicks (PSN) arriving at the poultry house. The detection rate of OFXR-EC in PS rearing was 72.49%, which was significantly higher than that detected in PSN. In addition, the detection rate of OFXR-EC was significantly lower in neonatal chicks of their offspring broilers (CSN) at 7...

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Transcranial electrical stimulation motor-evoked potentials (Tc-MEPs) are the current trend and are important in preventing intraoperative neurological deficits. Post-tetanic Tc-MEPs (p-MEP) can augment the amplitudes of compound muscle active potentials (CMAPs), especially in the case of insufficient conventional Tc-MEPs (c-MEP). PURPOSE: To retrospectively investigate pre- and intraoperative factors necessitating p-MEP monitoring and to examine changes in the success rates of baseline Tc-MEP monitoring before and after tetanic stimulation in patients with such factors...

BACKGROUND: Kawasaki disease (KD) is a pediatric systemic vasculitis characterized by endothelial cell dysfunction. Semaphorin 7A (Sema7A) has been reported to regulate endothelial phenotypes associated with cardiovascular diseases, while its role in KD remains unknown. This study aims to investigate the effect of Sema7A on endothelial permeability and inflammatory response in KD conditions. METHODS: Blood samples were collected from 68 KD patients and 25 healthy children (HC)...

Background : The primary purpose of this study was to preliminarily examine the effects of autonomic nervous system activity on the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. Recent studies have examined approaches to modulating autonomic activity using invasive and non-invasive methods, but the effects of changes in autonomic activity during cognitive tasks on the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex have not been fully investigated. The purpose of this preliminary investigation was to examine changes in autonomic activity and blood oxygen saturation in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex during reading tasks induced by vagus nerve stimulation using a microcone patch...

OBJECTIVES: In trials of acute severe infections or inflammations frequent administration of non-randomised treatment (ie, intercurrent event) in response to clinical events is expected. These events may affect the interpretation of trial findings. Swissped-RECOVERY was set up as one of the first randomised controlled trials worldwide, investigating the comparative effectiveness of anti-inflammatory treatment with intravenous methylprednisolone or intravenous immunoglobulins in children and adolescents with Paediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome Temporally Associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS)...

Systemic vasculitides are a rare and complex group of diseases that can affect multiple organ systems. Clinically, presentation may be vague and non-specific and as such, diagnosis and subsequent management are challenging. These entities are typically classified by the size of vessel involved, including large-vessel vasculitis (giant cell arteritis, Takayasu's arteritis, and clinically isolated aortitis), medium-vessel vasculitis (including polyarteritis nodosa and Kawasaki disease), and small-vessel vasculitis (granulomatosis with polyangiitis and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis)...

Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the knee is an uncommon injury in young active patients. There is currently a lack of knowledge regarding clinical outcomes and return-to-sport rates after fragment fixation surgery using hydroxy appetite poly-L-lactic acid (HA/PLLA) threaded pins for knee OCD among athletes. Our purpose was to investigate the clinical outcomes and return-to-sport rates following osteochondral fragment fixation using HA/PLLA pins for the treatment of knee OCD lesions among athletes. A total of 45 patients were retrospectively reviewed...

This study aims to document the phosphate ion (PO4 3- ) adsorption capacity of a novel zirconium-based adsorbent. The physicochemical properties of the adsorbent are investigated using an array of methods and metrics such as electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, specific surface area, pore volume, pH point of zero charge (pHpzc ), and surface hydroxyl groups. The batch method is used to elucidate PO4 3- adsorption capacity. Results suggested that the adsorption of PO4 3- was based on an internal diffusion and a monolayer adsorption...

Anastomosing hemangioma (AH) is rare and a newly recognized variant of capillary hemangioma that is mostly found in the genitourinary tract. Additionally, AH is sometimes difficult to diagnose without pathological specimens. It is difficult to diagnose preoperatively due to the lack of specific clinical and radiologic appearance. The present report describes the imaging features from a radiological perspective and outlines the clinicopathologic features and treatment options. A 67-year-old woman was referred to Dokkyo Medical University Saitama Medical Center (Koshigaya, Japan) for a retroperitoneal tumor that was identified at a medical checkup 4 years prior...

Late-onset psychosis refers to the development of psychotic symptoms after the age of 40 and can encompass various conditions like schizophrenia, mood disorders with psychotic features, and delusional disorder. Non-pharmacological interventions are critically important in older adults with psychosis, especially considering the lack of evidence for the efficacy of antipsychotics and the high risk of side effects. Social isolation is recognized as one of the risks of late-onset psychosis, and interventions to eliminate this risk are becoming increasingly important in Japan, where social isolation among older people is widespread as society ages...
