Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) have exceptional fluorescence properties. Overcoming aggregation-induced quenching and enhancing the fluorescence of colloidal QDs have remained a challenging issue in this field. In this study, composite hollow nanospheres composed of Au nanoparticles (NPs) and CdS:Ag-doped QDs were successfully constructed through controlled microemulsion-based cooperative assembly. This method harnessed the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of Au NPs nearby doped QDs, resulting in enhanced doped QD fluorescence and the observation of the Purcell effect...

BACKGROUND: Gray horses are predisposed to equine malignant melanoma (EMM) with advancing age. Depending on the tumor's location and size, they can cause severe problems (e.g., defaecation, urination, feeding). A feasible therapy for EMM has not yet been established and surgical excision can be difficult depending on the location of the melanoma. Thus, an effective and safe therapy is needed. Naturally occurring betulinic acid (BA), a pentacyclic triterpene and its synthetic derivate, NVX-207 (3-acetyl-betulinic acid-2-amino-3-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-propanoate) are known for their cytotoxic properties against melanomas and other tumors and have already shown good safety and tolerability in vivo...

Surfactant-free microemulsion (SFME) represents a class of fluid mixtures that can form microheterogeneous structures without detergents, offering an environmentally benign alternative to traditional microemulsions. However, the formation mechanism is still elusive. This work applies the Kirkwood-Buff theory to mixtures of alcohols, water, and n -hexane to elucidate the SFME formation mechanism. To ensure robust calculation of the Kirkwood-Buff integrals (KBIs), we construct a data set of densities and excess free energies of binary and ternary systems...

Linagliptin is hydrophilic antidiabetic with poor oral bioavailability due to poor permeability and pre-systemic metabolism. The objective was to assess w/o microemulsion for enhanced oral bioavailability of linagliptin. Nigella oil was used as oily phase based on its reported antidiabetic effect. Isopropyl myristate (IPM) or capryol were combined with nigella oil to impart intestinal membrane permeabilizing abilities. Pseudoternary phase diagrams were constructed utilizing nigella oil in presence and absence of isopropyl myristate or capryol as oily phase using Tween 60 as surfactant...

Surfactant-free microemulsions (SFMEs) exhibited remarkable advantages and potential, attributed to their similarity to traditional surfactant-based microemulsions and the absence of surfactants. Herein, a novel SFME was developed utilizing cosmetically approved materials, such as short-chain alcohol as an amphi-solvent, triethyl citrate (TEC) as the nonpolar phase, and water as the polar phase. 1,2-Pentanediol (PtDO)/TEC/water combination can form the largest monophasic zone, accounting for ∼74% of the total phase diagram area, due to an optimal hydrophilic (water)-lipophilic (TEC) balance...

Electrochromic polymers (ECPs) have great application potential in flexible displays, and there is an increasing expectation of using green methods to form ECP films. Herein, we propose a modified microemulsion method to prepare Cyan/Magenta/Yellow (C/M/Y) water-dispersed electrochromic polymer nanoparticles systems. Three polymer films (WDECP-C/M/Y) maintain similar electrochemical properties compared to their corresponding organic solvent-based polymer films. It is intriguing that WDECP-C/M/Y exhibit better electrochromic properties in terms of higher cycling stability (97...

An alternative approach to assay iron (Fe) in biodiesel by differential pulse adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry (DPAdCSV) is presented herein. The sample treatment involved a simple, rapid, but effective extraction of Fe from biodiesel into an aqueous phase after microemulsion (ME) breaking. Then, Fe was determined as the complex Fe(III)-PAN (1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in the presence of bismuth (Bi(III)). The extraction induced by microemulsion breaking (EIMB) was achieved by adding 0...

Ionic liquids (ILs) as polar components in nonaqueous microemulsions are complex formulations that have interesting transport and structural properties, and offer broader applicability of ILs in areas such as drug delivery and cleaning technology. The phase behavior, electrical conductivity, and nanostructures of these formulations have been investigated for quite some time, but the characteristics of the diffusion of nanodroplets were rarely explored─ and hence little understood. This work investigates the droplet diffusion processes in a series of IL-microemulsions containing 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([C4 mim]BF4 ) by means of viscosity and depolarized dynamic light scattering (DDLS) measurements...

In the present work, the temperature-dependent phase behavior of a C10 E4 based microemulsion is studied in different meso-macroporous glasses, as a function of their pore diameter. The phase behavior in these pores is investigated by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The crucial parameter we discuss based on the SAXS results is the domain size of the bicontinuous phase. Using a simplified model to fit the scattering data, we can observe the microemulsion inside the pores. These experiments reveal a temperature-dependent change in domain sizes of the bicontinuous microemulsion only for large pores...
