The all-inorganic halide perovskite CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, or I) offers various advantages, such as tunable electronic structure and high carrier mobility. However, its potential application in thermoelectric materials remains underexplored. In this study, we propose a simple yet effective method to synthesize a CsPbX3 /Bi0.4 Sb1.6 Te3 (BST) nanocomposite by sintering a uniformly mixed raw powder. The intrinsic excitation of the BST system is suppressed by exploiting the rich phase structure and tunable electrical transport properties of CsPbX3 , and the thermoelectric properties were synergistically optimized...

Advances in cryobiology techniques commonly target either the cooling or the warming cycle, while little thought has been given to ≪repair≫ protocols applicable during cold storage. In particular, crystallization is the dominant threat to cryopreserved samples but proceeds from small nuclei that are innocuous if further growth is forestalled. To this end, we propose a laser editing technique that locally heats individual crystals above their melting point by a focused nanosecond pulse, followed by amorphization during rapid resolidification...

BACKGROUND: Robot-assisted kidney transplantation (RAKT) surgery is an advanced minimally invasive technique, albeit with extended surgical and kidney ischemia time. To safeguard kidney function, we have devised a continuous surface cooling method (CSCT) for intraoperative kidney cooling. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients receiving RAKT were divided into CSCT group and conventional group. The CSCT is a custom-designed apparatus composed of a single-layer plastic bag, featuring an inflow and an outflow that create a closed circuit for the continuous flow of cooling saline...

Material absorption is a key limitation in nanophotonic systems; however, its characterization is often obscured by scattering and diffraction. Here we show that nanomechanical frequency spectroscopy can be used to characterize material absorption at the parts per million level and use it to characterize the extinction coefficient κ of stoichiometric silicon nitride (Si3 N4 ). Specifically, we track the frequency shift of a high- Q Si3 N4 trampoline in response to laser photothermal heating and infer κ from a model including stress relaxation and both conductive and radiative heat transfer...

A reversible, first-order transition separating two liquid phases of a single-component material is a fascinating yet poorly understood phenomenon. Here, we investigate the liquid-liquid transition (LLT) ability of two tetraalkylphosphonium ionic liquids (ILs), [P666,14 ]Cl and [P666,14 ][1,2,4-triazolide], using differential scanning calorimetry and dielectric spectroscopy. The latter technique also allowed us to study the LLT at elevated pressure. We found that cooling below 205 K transforms [P666,14 ]Cl and [P666,14 ][Trz] from one liquid state (liquid 1) to another (the self-assembled liquid 2), while the latter facilitates the charge transport decoupled from structural dynamics...

In this article we analyze the thermal processes in magnetically anisotropic metal complexes under the action of non-adiabatic switching of magnetic field. Using the non-stationary perturbation theory for the case of sudden perturbation, we show that this field can cause not only heat release, but also heat absorption, interconnected with the axial zero field splitting (parameter D ) in a paramagnetic metal complex. As an illustrative example we consider the simplest S = 1-complexes having "easy axis" and "easy plane" types of anisotropy influenced by the magnetic field that is suddenly turned off...

Valence tautomeric complexes (VT) are promising systems for creating molecular devices. From this viewpoint, valence tautomeric complexes with a hysteresis loop on the magnetic curve are of special interest as potential memory elements. The hysteresis loop is a consequence of retarded structural rearrangements which investigation is an actual problem. Recently, we have described a new VT transition taking place in a bis-dioxolene cobalt complex with imino-pyridine having a TEMPO substituent (A. A. Zolotukhin, et al...

BACKGROUND: Hypothermia is neuroprotective after neonatal hypoxic-ischaemic brain injury. However, systemic cooling to hypothermic temperatures is a stressor and may reduce neuroprotection in awake pigs. We compared two experiments of global hypoxic-ischaemic injury in newborn pigs, in which one group received propofol-remifentanil and the other remained awake during post-insult hypothermia treatment. METHODS: In both studies, newborn pigs were anaesthetised using halothane during a 45-min global hypoxic-ischaemic insult induced by reducing F io2 and graded hypotension until a low-voltage <7 μV electroencephalogram was achieved...

The cooling rate is a crucial factor in the process of freezing semen, influencing the overall freezing effectiveness. The height and time of fumigation can significantly impact the rate of cooling. Appropriate cooling rates can help minimize the formation of ice crystals in spermatozoa and reduce potential damage to them. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different fumigation heights and time for the cryopreservation of Hu ram semen. Experiments I-IV assessed the effect of semen cryopreservation by testing the post-thawed spermatozoa total motility (TM), progressive motility (PM) and kinetic parameters fumigated at distances of 2, 4, 6 and 8 cm for durations of 5, 10, 15 and 20 min, respectively...

Complex environments in advanced manufacturing usually involve ultrafast laser or ion irradiation which leads to rapid heating and cooling and drives grain boundaries (GBs) to non-equilibrium states, featuring distinct energetics and kinetic behaviors compared to conventional equilibrium or near-equilibrium GBs. In this topical review, we provide an overview of both recent experimental and computational studies on metastable GBs, i.e. their energetics, kinetic behaviors, and mechanical properties. In contrast to GBs at thermodynamic equilibrium, the inherent structure energy of metastable GBs exhibits a spectrum instead of single value for a particular misorientation, due to the existence of microstructural and chemical disorder...

Pyrite is the most common sulfide mineral in hydrothermal ore-forming systems. The ubiquity and abundance of pyrite, combined with its ability to record and preserve a history of fluid evolution in crustal environments, make it an ideal mineral for studying the genesis of hydrothermal ore deposits, including those that host critical metals. However, with the exception of boiling, few studies have been able to directly link changes in pyrite chemistry to the processes responsible for bonanza-style gold mineralization...

Mn3Sn is an anomalous Hall effect (AHE) antiferromagnet that exhibits the hysteretic AHE in antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase at room temperature. We report that whisker Mn3Sn crystals grown by the flux method exhibit a non-hysteretic AHE at mid-to-low temperatures when the whisker Mn3Sn is surrounded by a thin layer of ferromagnetic Mn2-xSn. These crystals exhibit a hysteretic AHE above 275 K due to the spin alignment of the inverse triangular lattice, which is similar to other crystals. However, upon cooling the crystal, it exhibits a non-hysteretic AHE with a spiral AFM spin structure at 100-200 K...

This study introduces recommendations for conducting molecular simulations of vapor adsorption, with an emphasis on enhancing the accuracy, reproducibility, and comparability of results. We highlight the importance of explicitly calculating the saturation pressures at relevant temperatures using methods such as Gibbs ensemble Monte Carlo simulations and illustrate some pitfalls in extrapolating saturation pressures using this method...
