The electromagnetic form factors of the proton and neutron encode information on the spatial structure of their charge and magnetization distributions. While measurements of the proton are relatively straightforward, the lack of a free neutron target makes measurements of the neutron's electromagnetic structure more challenging and more sensitive to experimental or model-dependent uncertainties. Various experiments have attempted to extract the neutron form factors from scattering from the neutron in deuterium, with different techniques providing different, and sometimes large, systematic uncertainties...

The first measurement of the cross section for incoherent photonuclear production of J/ψ vector mesons as a function of the Mandelstam |t| variable is presented. The measurement was carried out with the ALICE detector at midrapidity, |y|<0.8, using ultraperipheral collisions of Pb nuclei at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV. This rapidity interval corresponds to a Bjorken-x range (0.3-1.4)×10^{-3}. Cross sections are given in five |t| intervals in the range 0...

To optimize proteins for particular traits holds great promise for industrial and pharmaceutical purposes. Machine Learning is increasingly applied in this field to predict properties of proteins, thereby guiding the experimental optimization process. A natural question is: How much progress are we making with such predictions, and how important is the choice of regressor and representation? In this paper, we demonstrate that different assessment criteria for regressor performance can lead to dramatically different conclusions, depending on the choice of metric, and how one defines generalization...

BACKGROUND: The use of antibiotics is a key driver of antimicrobial resistance and is considered a major threat to global health. In Denmark, approximately 75% of antibiotic prescriptions are issued in general practice, with acute lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) being one of the most common indications. Adults who present to general practice with symptoms of acute LRTI often suffer from self-limiting viral infections. However, some patients have bacterial community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), a potential life-threatening infection, that requires immediate antibiotic treatment...

AIMS: Contact force (CF)-sensing radiofrequency (RF) catheters with an ablation index have shown reproducible outcomes for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) in large multicentre studies. A dual-energy (DE) focal CF catheter to deliver RF and unipolar/biphasic pulsed field ablation (PFA), integrated with a three-dimensional (3D) mapping system, can provide operators with additional flexibility. The SmartfIRE study assessed the safety and efficacy of this novel technology for the treatment of drug-refractory, symptomatic paroxysmal AF...

Leprosy is a great mimicker. It is caused by Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis , together termed the M. leprae complex. Leprosy can result in systemic manifestations; however, the neurocutaneous syndrome is the most classic. There is a gap in recognizing the condition leading to misdiagnosis and delays in treatment. Leprosy remains an important cause of aesthetic and functional impairment. In this paper, we provide a practical review of leprosy touching on pathophysiology, clinical manifestation, classification, diagnostic approach and management of the condition in a way that can translate into clinical practice and help physicians better identify and manage potential cases of leprosy...

Hanseniellachilensis is the only myriapod of the class Symphyla known from Chile. This garden centipede, or pseudocentipede, was described more than 120 years ago based on morphologically incomplete specimens collected in central Chile, a well-known biodiversity hotspot. In this study, we redescribe this species based on morphologically complete specimens collected near the type locality using scanning electron microscope images. Our study provides the description of diagnostic characters hitherto unknown in this species such as macrochaetae of the tergites and spinnerets of the cerci...

SNAPSHOT USA is a multicontributor, long-term camera trap survey designed to survey mammals across the United States. Participants are recruited through community networks and directly through a website application (https://www.snapshot-usa.org/). The growing Snapshot dataset is useful, for example, for tracking wildlife population responses to land use, land cover, and climate changes across spatial and temporal scales. Here we present the SNAPSHOT USA 2021 dataset, the third national camera trap survey across the US...

Tolterodine tartrate (TOTA) is associated with adverse effect, high hepatic access, varied bioavailability, slight aqueous solubility, and short half-life after oral delivery. Hansen solubility parameters (HSP, HSPiP program), experimental solubility (T = 298.2 to 318.2 K and p = 0.1 MPa), computational (van't Hoff and Apelblat models), and thermodynamic models were used to the select solvent(s). HSPiP predicted PEG400 as the most suitable co-solvent based on HSP values (δd  = 17...

Defining genetic factors impacting chemotherapy failure can help to better predict response and identify drug resistance mechanisms. However, there is limited understanding of the contribution of inherited noncoding genetic variation on inter-individual differences in chemotherapy response in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Here we map inherited noncoding variants associated with treatment outcome and/or chemotherapeutic drug resistance to ALL cis-regulatory elements and investigate their gene regulatory potential and target gene connectivity using massively parallel reporter assays and three-dimensional chromatin looping assays, respectively...

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of inhaled Magnesium Sulfate associated with Salbutamol versus Inhaled Salbutamol alone in patients with moderate and severe asthma exacerbations. METHOD: Clinical, prospective and randomized study with patients between 3 and 14 years of age divided into two groups: one to receive inhaled salbutamol associated with magnesium sulfate (GSM), the other to receive inhaled salbutamol alone (GS). The sample consisted of 40 patients, 20 patients in each group...

Carbonaceous materials catalyze reductive dechlorination of chlorinated ethylenes (CEs) by iron(II) materials providing a new approach for the remediation of CE polluted groundwater. While most CEs are reduced via β-elimination, vinyl chloride (VC), the most toxic and recalcitrant CE, degrades by hydrogenolysis. The significance of carbon catalysts for reduction of VC is well documented for iron(0) systems, but hardly investigated with iron(II) materials as reductants. In this study, a layered iron(II)‑iron(III) hydroxide sulfate (green rust) was used as reductant for VC, with an N-doped graphene (NG), prepared by co-pyrolysis of graphene and urea, as catalyst...

INTRODUCTION: Patients often feel unprepared and concerned about their new life after a major lower extremity amputation (LEA). Therefore, we implemented an integrated care program, Safe Journey, to optimize the quality and continuity of care for patients with LEA due to vascular disease when transitioning from hospital to home. This study aims to illuminate and explore the experiences of patients with LEA and their relatives with the transition from hospital to home after implementing Safe Journey...

BACKGROUND: Population-based prevalence estimates of distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DPN) and diabetic autonomic neuropathy (DAN) are scares. Here we present neuropathy estimates and describe their overlap in a large cohort of people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. METHODS: In a large population of outpatient participants, DPN was assessed using vibration perception threshold, sural nerve function, touch, pain and thermal sensation. Definite DPN was defined by the Toronto Consensus Criteria...

BACKGROUND: Wrist-worn inertial sensors are used in digital health for evaluating mobility in real-world environments. Preceding the estimation of spatiotemporal gait parameters within long-term recordings, gait detection is an important step to identify regions of interest where gait occurs, which requires robust algorithms due to the complexity of arm movements. While algorithms exist for other sensor positions, a comparative validation of algorithms applied to the wrist position on real-world data sets across different disease populations is missing...

COMPARATIVE STUDY
Thorsten Hansen, Bevil R Conway
Still life paintings comprise a wealth of data on visual perception. Prior work has shown that the color statistics of objects show a marked bias for warm colors. Here, we ask about the relative chromatic contrast of these object-associated colors compared with background colors in still life paintings. We reasoned that, owing to the memory color effect, where the color of familiar objects is perceived more saturated, warm colors will be relatively more saturated than cool colors in still life paintings as compared with photographs...
