BACKGROUND: Left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) is the result of impaired LV relaxation and identifies those at risk of developing heart failure. Echocardiography has been used as the gold standard to identify early LVDD. The signal processed electrocardiogram (hsECG) has demonstrated effectiveness to detect early LVDD. Whether or not the standard 12‑lead electrocardiogram (ECG) can accurately predict early LVDD is not known. METHODS: A standard 12‑lead ECG including signal processing (hsECG) was performed in 569 patients...

Transformer-based image denoising methods have shown remarkable potential but suffer from high computational cost and large memory footprint due to their linear operations for capturing long-range dependencies. In this work, we aim to develop a more resource-efficient Transformer-based image denoising method that maintains high performance. To this end, we propose an Efficient Wavelet Transformer (EWT), which incorporates a Frequency-domain Conversion Pipeline (FCP) to reduce image resolution without losing critical features, and a Multi-level Feature Aggregation Module (MFAM) with a Dual-stream Feature Extraction Block (DFEB) to harness hierarchical features effectively...

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to develop a computer-assisted prostate cancer diagnosis method based on multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) images. METHODS: We retrospectively collected 106 patients who underwent radical prostatectomy after diagnosis with prostate biopsy...

Characterizing spatial patterns in allele frequencies is fundamental to evolutionary biology because these patterns contain evidence of underlying processes. However, the spatial scales at which gene flow, changing selection, and drift act are often unknown. Many of these processes can operate inconsistently across space, causing non-stationary patterns. We present a wavelet approach to characterize spatial pattern in allele frequency that helps solve these problems. We show how our approach can characterize spatial patterns in relatedness at multiple spatial scales, i...

The identification of mixed solutions is a challenging and important subject in chemical analysis. In this paper, we propose a novel workflow that enables rapid qualitative and quantitative detection of mixed solutions. We use a methanol-ethanol mixed solution as an example to demonstrate the superiority of this workflow. The workflow includes the following steps: (1) converting Raman spectra into Raman images through CWT; (2) using MobileNetV3 as the backbone network, improved multi-label and multi-channel synchronization enables simultaneous prediction of multiple mixture concentrations; and (3) using transfer learning and multi-stage training strategies for training to achieve accurate quantitative analysis...

INTRODUCTION: Acquisition of a deeper understanding of microvascular function across physiological and pathological conditions can be complicated by poor accessibility of the vascular networks and the necessary sophistication or intrusiveness of the equipment needed to acquire meaningful data. Laser Doppler fluximetry (LDF) provides a mechanism wherein investigators can readily acquire large amounts of data with minor inconvenience for the subject. However, beyond fairly basic analyses of erythrocyte perfusion (fluximetry) data within the cutaneous microcirculation (i...

This study assesses the influence of climate policy uncertainty (CPU) on carbon emissions (CE) against the backdrop of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) in the US. The wavelet analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of correlations in the time and frequency domains. The results demonstrate a significant correlation between CPU and CE, which varies across different time periods and frequencies. In the time domain, the results indicate that the CPU and CE move together during certain subperiods. Moreover, there are observable comovements in the frequency domain, particularly in the short to medium range...

Cosmetics and topical medications, such as gels, foams, creams, and lotions, are viscoelastic substances that are applied to the skin or mucous membranes. The human perception of these materials is complex and involves multiple sensory modalities. Traditional panel-based sensory evaluations have limitations due to individual differences in sensory receptors and factors such as age, race, and gender. Therefore, this study proposes a deep-learning-based method for systematically analyzing and effectively identifying the physical properties of cosmetic gels...

Moiré images are separated into sub-band images using wavelet decomposition, and demoiréing can be achieved using the different learning strategies of two networks: moiré removal network (MRN) and detail-enhanced moiré removal network (DMRN)...

Application of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in neurosurgery mostly includes the discrimination between intact and malignant tissues aimed at the detection of brain tumor margins. For particular tissue types, the existing approaches demonstrate low performance, which stimulates the further research for their improvement. The analysis of speckle patterns of brain OCT images is proposed to be taken into account for the discrimination between human brain glioma tissue and intact cortex and white matter. The speckle properties provide additional information of tissue structure, which could help to increase the efficiency of tissue differentiation...
