BACKGROUND: Dengue is a significant mosquito-borne disease. Several studies have utilized estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study to assess the global, regional, or national burden of dengue over time. However, our recent investigation suggests that GBD's estimates for dengue cases in Taiwan are unrealistically high. The current study extends the scope to compare reported dengue cases with GBD estimates across 30 high-burden countries and territories, aiming to assess the accuracy and interpretability of the GBD's dengue estimates...

The eastern coastline of Gresik, located in East Java, Indonesia, experienced significant industrialization, leading to the development of numerous diverse sectors. These diverse industrial activities, in addition to other human activities, result in the contamination of sediment across the eastern coast of Gresik with a variety of metals. Metals like arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) have exceeded the international standards for sediment quality, potentially causing significant harm to the aquatic ecosystem in this coastal region...

The number of cases of train accidents in Indonesia continues to be large in the past few years. This paper analyzes train accident cases in Indonesia using a socio-technical system approach accident model called AcciMap, developed by Jens Rasmussen. The source of data comes from train accident investigation reports from 2015 to 2021 published by the National Transportation Safety Committee. This study uses a qualitative approach with thematic analysis to identify contributing factors and their interactions within the reports...

BACKGROUND: Cesarean section (CS) could be life-saving with medically indicated, but without it, both women and children could be at risk. The maximum rate for CS is 15%, but it tends to exceed globally. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to analyze the education level's role in the delivery of CS in Indonesia. METHODS: We used the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey data. The study sampled 15,357 women who delivered in five last years. Besides delivery mode and education level, the study also used nine control variables: residence, age, marital, employment, parity, wealth, insurance, antenatal care, and birth type...

Objective Childhood obesity has emerged as a pressing health concern in both high-income and lower-middle-income countries, including Indonesia. The prevalence of overweight and obesity among school children aged 5-12 years has been increasing in Indonesia, with 20% of Indonesian children identified as obese or overweight in 2018. Therefore, addressing this problem will be challenging. This study aims to identify district- and city-level clusters with high prevalences of overweight and obese children aged 5-12 years in Indonesia...

This study aims to determine the prevalence, authorship, and types of fertility-related information in Bahasa shared on Instagram using hashtag and content analysis. Additional outcomes included a comparison of post content stratified by author type (healthcare providers vs...

This study examined the presence of two heavy metals (Cd and Pb) in the sediments and Asian swamp eels (Monopterus albus) in the downstream area of Cisadane River. The average concentrations of Cd and Pb in the sediments from all sampling locations were 0.594 ± 0.230 mg/kg and 34.677 ± 24.406 mg/kg, respectively. These concentrations were above the natural background concentration and the recommended value of interim sediment quality guidelines (ISQG), suggesting an enrichment process and potential ecological risk of studied metals to the ecosystem of Cisadane River...

Tidal dynamics contribute to fluctuations in microplastic abundance (MPs). This is the first study to characterize MPs under the influence of tidal fluctuations in the Musi River Estuary. MPs samples were collected during flood and ebb tides at 10 research stations representing the inner, middle and outer parts of the Musi River Estuary. MPs were extracted to identify the shape, color and size. MP abundances were 467.67 ± 127.84 particles/m3 during flood tide and 723.67 ± 112.05 particles/m3 during ebb tide...

Southeast Asia (SEA) faces significant environmental challenges due to rapid population growth and economic activity. Rivers in the region are major sources of plastic waste in oceans. Concerns about their contribution have grown, but knowledge of microplastics in the area is still limited. This article compares microplastic levels in sediment and water from urban zones of three major rivers in SEA: Chao Phraya River (Thailand), Saigon River (Vietnam), and Citarum River (Indonesia). The study reveals that in all three rivers, microplastics were found, with the highest concentrations in Chao Phraya's water (80 ± 60 items/m3 ) and Saigon's sediment (9167 ± 4559 items/kg)...

Belonging to multiple groups is an important feature of our social lives. However, it is largely unknown if it is related to individual differences in cognitive performance. Given that changing self-identities linked to each group requires cognitive operations on knowledge bases associated with each group, the extent to which people belong to multiple groups may be related to individual differences in cognitive performance. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to test if multiple group membership is related to executive function task performance...
