BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Cognard type V fistula (CVF) is a rare type of dural arteriovenous fistula characterized by spinal perimedullary venous drainage. Owing to the lack of pathognomonic findings, misdiagnosis is common. Patients often undergo multiple spinal angiograms negative for spinal vascular malformations. Digital subtraction angiography is the gold standard diagnostic tool. The preferred treatment option is endovascular management with embolization through a transarterial, transvenous, or combined approach...

INTRODUCTION: The seeds used in brachytherapy for prostate cancer may migrate through the surrounding venous plexus to other sites in the body, most commonly to the pulmonary vasculature. CASE PRESENTATION: A 78-year-old Japanese man received iodine-125 low-dose-rate prostate brachytherapy. Computed tomography revealed that one seed had migrated to the right kidney. No seed was observed in the ureter upon ureteroscopy. Transesophageal echocardiography confirmed a right-to-left shunt due to a patent foramen ovale, suggesting that the seed had migrated into the right renal artery...

BACKGROUND: Early venous drainage is a critical diagnostic feature of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs). However, other conditions associated with early venous drainage can mimic AVMs and AVFs and mislead the treating physician team. OBSERVATIONS: The authors present a unique case of a 56-year-old man with new left hemianopsia. Workup with magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance angiography had revealed cortical enhancement and early venous drainage, possibly caused by an AVF or AVM...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Endovascular embolization of brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) is sometimes intentionally partial, in the case of staged treatment for instance. Residual AVMs may be prone to angioarchitectural modification during follow-up. The objective of this work is to evaluate the nature and extent of these modifications. METHODS: We performed a retrospective monocentric study on a cohort of adult patients treated by incomplete endovascular embolization for ruptured and unruptured AVMs with an available angiographic follow-up, without any intervening confounding event between the 2 angiographic examinations...

INTRODUCTION: Vascular anomalies, comprising up to 4.5% of the general population, are aberrations occurring during vascular development. Vascular abnormalities are frequently identified in children and frequently exhibit characteristics similar to nerve sheath tumors. We report a case of 16 years old boy with a arterio-venous (AV) malformation (AVM) affecting the brachial plexus. We discuss the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, and histopathological findings in this patient and review the relevant literature...

A pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA) is a rare condition. It is treated in various ways, depending on its location and size. Herein, we describe the preoperative diagnosis of a PAA that was resected by segmentectomy. A 44-year-old female underwent CT, which revealed a 15-mm saccular protrusion in the right pulmonary artery and was diagnosed with PAA. The patient was initially observed without requiring further treatment, but a gradual increase in size led to therapeutic intervention. Because the PAA was located just peripheral to the right A8 bifurcation, embolization using interventional radiology was deemed too difficult...

Background: Treatment of oropharyngolaryngeal venous malformations (VMs) remains challenging. This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of fluoroscopy- and endoscopy-guided transoral sclerotherapy for oropharyngolaryngeal VMs in a hybrid operation room (OR). Methods: Patients with oropharyngolaryngeal VMs who underwent transoral sclerotherapy in a hybrid OR were enrolled. Results: Fourteen patients (six females, eight males; median age of 26 years; range, 4-71 years) were analyzed. The symptoms observed were breathing difficulties (n = 3), snoring (n = 2), sleep apnea (n = 1), and swallowing difficulties (n = 1)...

Arterial spin labeling (ASL) has emerged as a promising noninvasive tool for the evaluation of both pediatric and adult arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). This paper reviews the advantages and challenges associated with the use of ASL in AVM assessment. An assessment of the diagnostic workup of AVMs and their variants in both adult and pediatric populations is proposed. Evaluation after treatments, whether endovascular or microsurgical, was similarly examined. ASL, with its endogenous tracer and favorable safety profile, offers functional assessment and arterial feeder identification...

This study had two main objectives. Firstly, we conducted a thorough literature review on the prenatal diagnosis of abdominal congenital arteriovenous fistulas (CAVFs) involving the abdominal aorta and hepatic arteries. Secondly, we aimed to provide detailed descriptions of eight additional cases diagnosed at our medical center and assess the outcome of this anomaly for informed counseling. We conducted a systematic search of online databases using specific keywords like "outcome", "ultrasound", "intrahepatic fistulae", and "fetal venous anomalies", focusing on studies published between 1998 and 2023...

BACKGROUND: Pial arteriovenous fistulas (pAVFs) are rare vascular malformations characterized by high-flow arteriovenous shunting involving a cortical arterial supply directly connecting to venous drainage without an intermediate nidus. Dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVFs) can infrequently involve additional pial feeders which can introduce higher flow shunting and increase the associated treatment risk. In the posterior fossa, arteriovenous fistula (AVF) angioarchitecture tends to be particularly complex, involving either multiple arterial feeders-sometimes from both dural and pial origins-or small caliber vessels that are difficult to catheterize and tend to be intimately involved with functionally critical brainstem or upper cervical cord structures...

Vascular anomalies comprise a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations related to disturbances in the blood or lymph vessels. They correspond to mainly tumors (especially hemangiomas), characterized by high mitotic activity and proliferation of the vascular endothelium, and malformations, endowed with normal mitotic activity and no hypercellularity or changes in the rate of cell turnover. However, the classifications of these lesions go beyond this dichotomy and consist various systems adapted for and by different clinical subgroups...

Venous malformations (VMs) located in the anterior mediastinum are rare. Thus, diagnosis using imaging is often challenging, and they are typically diagnosed only after total tumor resection. Herein, we report a case of VM located in the anterior mediastinum diagnosed using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A 56-year-old woman presented for further evaluation of an anterior mediastinal mass observed during a chest CT. On CT, the mass was observed to have scattered calcifications and early and persistent enhancement with contrast material pooling dorsally in the delayed phase...

Dural sinus malformation (DSM) is a rare vascular malformation characterized by the dilatation of a dural venous sinus with or without an anomalous jugular bulb. Its presentation with venous-reflux-related secondary proptosis is anecdotal, with only six such cases reported so far. We report a 17-month-old boy who presented with a progressive proptosis of the right eye secondary to a DSM of the transverse sinus and torcula. Following endovascular embolization of the arterio-venous fistula, complete thrombosis of the venous lake and improvement in proptosis was noted at 6-month follow-up...
