Pregnant women are physiologically prone to glucose intolerance, while the puerperium represents a critical phase for recovery. However, how air pollution disrupts glucose homeostasis during the gestational and early postpartum periods remains unclear. This prospective cohort study conducted an oral glucose tolerance test and measured the insulin levels of 834 pregnant women in Guangzhou, with a follow-up for 443 puerperae at 6-8 weeks postpartum. Residential PM2.5 and five chemical components were estimated by an established spatiotemporal model...

There is lack of clarity on whether pregnancies during COVID-19 resulted in poorer mode of delivery and birth outcomes in Ontario, Canada. We aimed to compare mode of delivery (C-section), birth (low birthweight, preterm birth, NICU admission), and health services use (HSU, hospitalizations, ED visits, physician visits) outcomes in pregnant Ontario women before and during COVID-19 (pandemic periods). We further stratified for pre-existing chronic diseases (asthma, eczema, allergic rhinitis, diabetes, hypertension)...

Childbirth is a stressful event for mothers, and labor epidural analgesia (LEA) may reduce mental stress. Mental stressors include labor pain, fear, and anxiety, which induce oxidative stress. In this study, we focused on oxidative stress during delivery and conducted a cross-sectional analysis of maternal and fetal oxidative stress. The participants included 15 women who received LEA (LEA group) and 15 who did not (No LEA group). Participants with a gestational age of < 37 weeks, BMI of ≥ 35 kg/m2 , cerebrovascular or cardiovascular complications, multiple pregnancies, gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes, chronic hypertension, thyroid disease, birth weight of < 2,500 g, emergency cesarean section, or cases in which epidural anesthesia was re-administered during delivery were excluded from the study...

INTRODUCTION: Available data regarding the safety and efficacy of sotrovimab in pregnant patients remain limited due to their exclusion from clinical trials. METHODS: The COVID-19 International Drug Pregnancy Registry (COVID-PR) was established to gather comprehensive safety data from pregnant women who have received monoclonal antibody (mAb) or antiviral treatments for mild, moderate, or severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during pregnancy. Participants actively contributed self-reported data concerning their COVID-19 symptoms, in addition to sociodemographic and health-related characteristics...

AIMS/INTRODUCTION: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a major metabolic disease that seriously endangers life and health, but women with gestational diabetes mellitus are at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of postpartum lifestyle intervention on the prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the effect of lifestyle intervention on glycemic outcomes and anthropometric measures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We searched PubMed and other databases to retrieve articles published before May 21, 2023, on randomized controlled trials of postnatal lifestyle interventions (diet and/or physical activity) in women with gestational diabetes mellitus...

OBJECTIVES: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a prevalent metabolic disorder during pregnancy with potential long-term health implications for the mother and child. The interplay between genetics and GDM susceptibility remains an area of active research. Recently, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) was investigated in relation to obesity and impaired glucose metabolism and pathogenesis. We aimed to investigate the association of common BDNF polymorphisms, with GDM risk in Israeli females...

Hence, this study aimed to assess the health literacy status of pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), as well as its associated factors and impact on glycemic control. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The facility-based Cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 200 pregnant women with GDM in a tertiary care hospital...

OBJECTIVE:  Antenatal breast milk expression (ABE) offers a host of benefits, including reduced formula consumption, support for breastfeeding success, and increased maternal satisfaction. Despite these advantages, experience with ABE differs significantly, often leading to anxiety over perceived inadequate milk supply and eventual breastfeeding cessation. This study comprehensively evaluates the knowledge, attitudes, and real-world experiences of individuals with gestational or pregestational diabetes concerning ABE, with a focus on total milk volume expressed prior to birth...

OBJECTIVE: To examine long-term diabetes risk after preterm delivery or hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in a large population-based cohort. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included all women with a singleton delivery in Sweden during 1973-2015 and no preexisting diabetes mellitus. Participants were followed up for development of type 2 diabetes identified from nationwide outpatient and inpatient diagnoses through 2018. Cox regression was used to compute hazard ratios (HRs) for the association between preterm delivery or hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and type 2 diabetes with adjustment for gestational diabetes and other maternal factors...

STUDY QUESTION: What are the pregnancy and obstetric outcomes in women with atypical hyperplasia (AH) or early-stage endometrial cancer (EC) managed conservatively for fertility preservation? SUMMARY ANSWER: The study found a live birth rate of 62% in patients with AH or EC after conservative treatment, with higher level of labour induction, caesarean section, and post-partum haemorrhage. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Fertility-sparing treatment is a viable option for women with AH or EC during childbearing years, but the outcomes of such treatments, especially regarding pregnancy and obstetrics, need further exploration...

PURPOSE: Pregnancy and the postpartum period are increasingly recognised as sensitive windows for cardiometabolic disease risk. Growing evidence suggests environmental exposures, including endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), are associated with an increased risk of pregnancy complications that are associated with long-term cardiometabolic risk. However, the impact of perinatal EDC exposure on subsequent cardiometabolic risk post-pregnancy is less understood. The Environmental Reproductive and Glucose Outcomes (ERGO) Study was established to investigate the associations of environmental exposures during the perinatal period with post-pregnancy parental cardiometabolic health...
