With the increasing global aging population, dementia care has rapidly become a major social problem. Current diagnosis of Behavior and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) relies on clinical interviews, and behavioral rating scales based on a period of behavior observation, but these methods are not suitable for identification of occurrence of BPSD in the daily living, which is necessary for providing appropriate interventions for dementia, though, has been studied by few research groups in the literature...

Chicana Lesbians provides a fruitful theoretical framework to examine the documentary Ovarian Psycos , directed by Joanna Sokolowski and Kate Trumbull-LaValle, about a radical Latina women's cycling collective founded in Los Angeles in 2010. Many of the group's members are lesbians, and all of them are feminists with radical politics who organise cycling-related events to protest against the gentrification of East Los Angeles, racism and violence against women. The film interweaves interviews with the collective's members with footage of their moonlit group bike rides...

PURPOSE: Depressive disorders are the most common manifestation of psychological distress in allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Few studies have yet investigated the relationship between therapeutic educational interventions and outcomes in these patients with specific attention to those related to mental health. Aim of this study was to understand how much educational intervention can represent a protective factor in preventing psycho-emotional distress-related issues in this setting...

INTRODUCTION: Scurvy is a rarely seen in pediatric patients nowadays, seen more in those with developmental delay, autism or those who are severely malnourished. Epiphyseal separations are known to occur in scurvy, but only a few such cases have been reported in children with cerebral palsy. The diagnosis is often misleading since other morbidities as trauma, malignancies, coagulopathies, septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, or rheumatologic disorders are often considered at first. We report the case of 4-year-old female child with cerebral palsy in whom the initial concern was septic arthritis/osteomyelitis based upon clinical presentation, ultrasonic and magnetic resonance imaging, led to a surgery revealing subperiosteal hematomas...

Executive functions (EFs)' development is critically affected by childhood adversity exposure. Although recent studies underlined the deleterious effects of early life stresses on working memory (WM) and inhibitory control, they were scarcely investigated in war context especially in relation with learning abilities. In order to fill this gap, we designed a research with the aim to evaluate EFs together with early math skills. In particular, we conducted a study involving 150 children divided into three groups: 48 Yazidis ( M age = 71 months, SD = 6...

The end-spurt and U-shape reflect common pacing patterns across a variety of fields (e.g., running, swimming, cycling). To date, however, the literature lacks a clear, parsimonious account for these effects. Here, I propose these pacing patterns can be accounted for by a psychological mechanism termed perceived impact. As athletes perceive their actions to better affect task-progress, they become more motivated and perform better accordingly. To illustrate, if an athlete has five more laps to go during a race, completing the current lap closes 20% of the remaining distance...

Exercise represents an important lifestyle factor in all human ages when felt in harmony with other psycho-physical and environmental variables that affect individual life (e. g. quality of interest, affections, environment, diet and food). Consequently, in addition to the training level, the amount, intensity and modality of exercise (ana-/aerobic, isometric/isotonic), need to be personalized, considering the underlying diseases, which may benefit from it or worsening.Greek mythology gives us good examples of the exercise concept's evolution...

We investigated psychological stress effects on copeptin secretion in healthy volunteers and patients with central diabetes insipidus (DI). The home-based care programme in Botswana was initiated partly to augment hospital or clinical care by reducing the healthcare costs associated with chronic illnesses such as HIV/AIDS. A number of studies have pointed to the psyco-social impacts of home based care, however there has been few attempts to quantify the direct and indirect costs associated with home based care. This study was carried out in the North West District of Botswana, which is noted for a relatively larger proportion of households with critically ill persons...

Pediculosis is the most frequent and contagious ectoparasitic infestation in human, particularly in children from 3 to 8 years of age. Epidemics are observed from time to time, in schools or in adults in prisons. Even though benign, these infections remain unpleasant and can have an important psyco-social impact. Since a few years, caregivers have to face increasing problems while treating lice: appearance of insecticide resistances, lindane's withdrawal from the market and the marketing of new products which are not always well evaluated...

In an effort to determine both the kinds of problems presented and physician response, direct observation of physician/patient interactions and content analysis of patient records were carried out. Five dominant responses of physicians were identified and discussed in detail...
