PURPOSE: To compare the inter-reader agreement of pancreatic adenocarcinoma resectability assessment at pancreatic protocol photon-counting CT (PCCT) with conventional energy-integrating detector CT (EID-CT). METHODS: A retrospective single institution database search identified all contrast-enhanced pancreatic mass protocol abdominal CT performed at an outpatient facility with both a PCCT and EID-CT from 4/11/2022 to 10/30/2022. Patients without pancreatic adenocarcinoma were excluded...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: More than 20% of patients with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO) may be deemed as nonshuntable due to lack of a suitable vein. The role of "makeshift shunts" or "lesser shunts" assumes importance in such cases. In this report, the authors have shared their experience with the makeshift shunts in the management of portal hypertension in children with emphasis upon anatomic considerations, resolution of symptoms, outcomes after surgery, and shunt patency...

BACKGROUND: In liver transplant patients with hypoplastic portal vein (PV), when the narrowed segment is extended too deep into the dorsal side of the pancreas, it is difficult and dangerous to reconstruct the interposition graft from the upper part of the pancreas. Herein, we present a case of PV reconstruction with the autologous mesosystemic shunt vessel from the caudal side of the pancreas in a situation where the narrowed PV was deep, and we discuss the technical details. Colorectal cancer, the third most common cancer worldwide, affects 40-45% of patients on the right side. Surgery, especially minimally invasive methods such as laparoscopic and robotic procedures, is the preferred treatment. However, these techniques present technical complications. The anatomical complexity and variations in vessel branching patterns pose challenges, particularly for less experienced surgeons. The CoDIG 2 is a nationwide observational study involving 76 specialized Italian general surgery departments focused on colorectal surgery...

The recognition of pathogen effectors through the nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat receptor (NLR) family is an important component of plant immunity. In addition to typical domains such as TIR, CC, NBS, and LRR, NLR proteins also contain some atypical integrated domains (IDs), the roles of which are rarely investigated. Here, we carefully screened the soybean ( Glycine max ) genome and identified the IDs that appeared in the soybean TNL-like proteins. Our results show that multiple IDs (36) are widely present in soybean TNL-like proteins...

INTRODUCTION: The applicability of neoadjuvant treatment (NAT) for resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has arisen, however, high-level evidence is lacking. This study aimed to explore patient subgroups with high-risk resectable PDAC for selecting candidates who may benefit from NAT. METHODS: The 1,132 patients with resectable or borderline resectable PDAC who underwent surgery between 2007 and 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with resectable PDAC without contact of major vessels (R-no contact) (n=651), with contact of portal vein or superior mesenteric vein (PV/SMV) ≤180° (R-contact) (n=306), and borderline resectable PDAC without arterial involvement (BR-V) (n=175) were analyzed...

The WRKYs are a group of plant-specific transcription factors that play important roles in defense responses. In this study, we silenced 2 GmWRKY33B homologous genes using a bean pod mosaic virus (BPMV) vector carrying a single fragment from the conserved region of the GmWRKY33B genes. Silencing GmWRKY33B did not result in morphological changes. However, significantly reduced resistances to Pseudomonas syringae pv. glycinea ( Psg ) and soybean mosaic virus (SMV) were observed in the GmWRKY33B -silenced plants, indicating a positive role of the GmWRKY33B genes in disease resistance...

Lightweight materials are highly desired in many engineering applications. A popular approach to obtain lightweight polymers is to prepare polymeric syntactic foams by dispersing hollow particles, such as hollow glass microbubbles (HGMs), in a polymer matrix. Integrating shape memory vitrimers (SMVs) in fabricating these syntactic foams enhances their appeal due to the multifunctionality of SMVs. The SMV-based syntactic foams have many potential applications, including actuators, insulators, and sandwich cores...

CBP60b (CALMODULIN-BINDING PROTEIN 60b) is a member of the CBP60 transcription factor family. In Arabidopsis, At CBP60b not only regulates growth and development but also activates the transcriptions in immune responses. So far, CBP60b has only been studied extensively in the model plant Arabidopsis and rarely in crops. In this study, Bean pod mottle virus (BPMV)-mediated gene silencing (BPMV-VIGS) was used to silence GmCBP60b.1/2 in soybean plants. The silencing of GmCBP60b.1/2 resulted in typical autoimmunity, such as dwarfism and enhanced resistance to both Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and Pseudomonas syringae pv...

PURPOSE: To develop a tissue field-filtering algorithm, called maximum spherical mean value (mSMV), for reducing shadow artifacts in QSM of the brain without requiring brain-tissue erosion. THEORY AND METHODS: Residual background field is a major source of shadow artifacts in QSM. Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) seriously harms soybean quality and yield. In order to understand the effect of a heterogeneous light environment on the disease resistance of intercropped soybeans, we simulated three kinds of light environments to learn the effects of white light, blue light, and far-red light on the SMV resistance of soybeans. The results showed that compared with the control, SMV-infected soybeans showed dwarfing and enhanced defense. The symptoms of leaves under red and blue light were less severe than those under white light, the virus content of infected plants was about 90% lower than under white light, the activity of antioxidant enzymes increased, and the accumulation of reactive oxygen species decreased...

Soybean mosaic virus (SMV), a member of Potyvirus , is the most destructive and widespread viral disease in soybean production. Our earlier studies identified a soybean 40S ribosomal protein S8 (GmRPS8) using the 6K1 protein of SMV as the bait to screen a soybean cDNA library. The present study aims to identify the interactions between GmRPS8 and SMV and characterize the role of GmRPS8 in SMV infection in soybean. Expression analysis showed higher SMV-induced GmRPS8 expression levels in a susceptible soybean cultivar when compared with a resistant cultivar, suggesting that GmRPS8 was involved in the response to SMV in soybean...
