OBJECTIVE: This study explored the relationship between war-related stressors and sexual well-being among a civilian population during the 2023 Israel-Hamas War, emphasizing a comprehensive assessment of sexual satisfaction, function, and distress. We aimed to investigate how direct exposure, media exposure, and acute stress symptoms during the war contribute to various dimensions of sexual well-being using a quasi-longitudinal online survey method. METHODS: An online survey with a convenience sample of 1033 Israeli adults, utilizing measures of direct and media exposure to war stress, acute stress symptoms, and various aspects of sexual well-being, both pre-war and present was distributed...

Short- and long-term impacts of the climate crisis continue to be felt across the public health landscape. Many individuals marginalized by the climate crisis also navigate a higher likelihood of exposure to HIV. By understanding this relationship, we can better position HIV prevention, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) programs specifically, to meet user needs in communities experiencing the effects of the climate crisis. In support, we propose four recommendations for mitigating the impact of the climate crisis on those who may benefit from PrEP: (1) leverage existing and emerging research and lived experience to intentionally target and appropriately reach individuals affected by the climate crisis who may need or want PrEP; (2) emphasize the need for more climate-resilient PrEP products within the research and development pipeline; (3) build a continued understanding of the role of the climate crisis-HIV relationship in product introduction through national collaboration; and (4) strengthen the integration of PrEP service delivery and response to intimate partner violence...

Growth is one of the most direct and common ways fish respond to climate change, as fish growth is intimately linked to the temperature of the environment. Observational studies on the effect of shifts in temperature on fish growth are scarce for freshwater fish, and particularly lacking for lake populations. Here, changes in growth rate of bream (Abramis brama), perch (Perca fluviatilis), pikeperch (Sander lucioperca), and roach (Rutilus rutilus) over three decades were studied and compared with changes in temperature in the two largest lakes of western Europe: Lake IJsselmeer and Lake Markermeer in the Netherlands...

Transmasculine people (TM) constitute an invisibilized group within the transgender population. Little is known about their relationship to sexuality in transgender medicine. Their presence and needs are still unacknowledged within HIV prevention research and services. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is an oral medication that prevents HIV in HIV-negative individuals at risk of infection with the virus. This paper proposes to bring TM back into the focus of PrEP research by questioning how they navigate and situate themselves in relation to existing PrEP categorization and services, and how they think about and (re)shape the meanings of PrEP...

Alzheimer's disease is a complex and progressive condition that affects essential neurological functions such as memory and reasoning. In the brain, neuronal loss, synaptic dysfunction, proteinopathy, neurofibrillary tangles, and neuroinflammation are the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology. In addition, recent evidence has highlighted that microbes, whether commensal or pathogenic, also have the ability to interact with their host and to regulate its immune system, therefore participating in the exchanges that lead to peripheral inflammation and neuropathology...

Introduction: This study aims to examine how involvement in Greek life impacts the relationships between violence and STBs. Methods: This study utilizes data from the American College Health Association-National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA) waves IIb, IIc, and III. Analyses examine the moderating effect of involvement in Greek life on the relationship between violence and presence of STBs in the past year. Results: Main effects revealed consistent patterns across violence types, STBs and waves, with Greek life membership associated with increased odds of experiencing violence and associated with decreased odds of suicidal ideation...

Background: Antenatal depression is common and has significant consequences. The literature suggests that antibiotic exposure may be associated with depression. Many individuals are exposed to antibiotics during pregnancy. Further investigation of the association between antenatal antibiotic use and the development of depression during pregnancy is needed. Methods: A national prospective observational cohort study of pregnant individuals was undertaken using an online survey, completed during the third trimester...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Cannabis use is highly prevalent among individuals with a history of intimate partner violence (IPV) and among people who drink alcohol. Motives for cannabis use are important correlates of consumption and problem severity. However, no research has examined cannabis use motives among couples with IPV. The goals of the study were to examine (1) the associations between a person and their partner's cannabis use motives; and (2) examine the extent to which each partners' cannabis use motives are related to their own and their partner's cannabis consumption...

Fucosylation is facilitated by converting GDP-mannose to GDP-4-keto-6-deoxymannose, which GDP-mannose 4,6-dehydratase, a crucial enzyme in the route, carries out. One of the most prevalent glycosylation alterations linked to cancer has reportedly been identified as fucosylation. There is mounting evidence that GMDS is intimately linked to the onset and spread of cancer. Furthermore, the significance of long-chain non-coding RNAs in the development and metastasis of cancer is becoming more well-recognized, and the regulatory mechanism of lncRNAs has emerged as a prominent area of study in the biological sciences...

Although prior research has established a relationship between neighborhood structure and intimate partner violence (IPV), much of this literature focuses on serious IPV, despite the fact that less serious forms of IPV comprise the majority of IPV instances. Further, women are far more likely to experience all types of IPV victimization relative to men, especially simple assault, yet the relative importance of neighborhood structure across gradations of IPV and victim sex is relatively unexplored. We use data from Los Angeles, CA, and disaggregate IPV assaults across victim sex to examine whether neighborhood factors have differential effects on simple and aggravated IPV...

Following a traumatic event such as intimate partner violence (IPV), survivors often experience stress related to the violence. These high levels of stress related to IPV can be associated with the daily activities of survivors and their relationships with their children, such as maternal-child bonding. The purpose of the current study is to explore the relationship between daily activities, daily stress levels, parenting self-efficacy and behaviors, and maternal-child bonding among survivors living in an IPV shelter using an ecological momentary assessment (EMA) methodology...

Research has shown that experiencing a sexual assault results in significant and lasting effects in many psychosocial domains. However, most studies on the impact of sexual assault examine university samples or the immediate aftermath of the assault, not taking into account the longer-term complexities and contexts of life for many victims. Military personnel and veterans are at heightened risk for exposure to traumatic events and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as intimate relationship problems associated with PTSD.
