Sulfurous thermal waters (STWs) are used as a complementary treatment for allergic rhinitis. However, there is scant data on the effects of STW on nasal epithelial cells, and in vitro models are warranted. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the dose and time effects of exposure to 3D nasal inserts (MucilAirTM -HF allergic rhinitis model) with STW or isotonic sodium chloride solution (ISCS) aerosols. Transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) and histology were assessed before and after nebulizations...

Three varieties of rapeseed (Castilla, California, and Nelson F1) were cultivated using medium-intensive (control), intensive, and economical (spare) technologies with different nitrogen and sulfur fertilization techniques. The antioxidant potential of rapeseeds was investigated using ABTS, FRAP, and DPPH assays. The content of total phenolic compounds was determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu phenol reagent. The profile of phenolic compounds was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)...

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an insidious, rapidly progressing malignancy of the gastrointestinal tract. Due to its dense fibrous stroma and complex tumor microenvironment, neither of which is sensitive to radiotherapy, pancreatic adenocarcinoma is one of the malignancies with the poorest prognosis. Therefore, detailed elucidation of the inhibitory microenvironment of PDAC is essential for the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Methods: We analyzed the association between cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and resistance to ferroptosis in PDAC using conditioned CAF medium and co-culture of pancreatic cancer cells...

The rheology of air or moisture sensitive liquids, gels, and glasses requires complicated rheometer-in-glovebox laboratory setups. Here, we demonstrate the use of a heavier-than-air cover gas, sulfur hexafluoride, and the design of a cover gas container that can attach to the lower geometry plate of any rheometer to carry out rheology experiments on air-sensitive liquids and soft solids. Rheological measurements of air-reactive ionic liquid trimethylsulfonium bromide-AlCl3, moisture sensitive titanium(IV) propoxide, and glycerin demonstrate the effectiveness of the cover-gas method for loading samples on acquiring correct temperature dependent viscosity data of the sample in the absence of reaction products...

It is deemed as a tough yet profound project to comprehensively cope with a range of detrimental problems of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs), mainly pertaining to the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and sluggish sulfur conversion. Herein, a Co2 P-Fe2 P@N-doped carbon (Co2 P-Fe2 P@NC) Mott-Schottky catalyst is introduced to enable bidirectionally stimulated sulfur conversion. This catalyst is prepared by simple carbothermal reduction of spent LiFePO4 cathode and LiCoO2 . The experimental and theoretical calculation results indicate that thanks to unique surface/interface properties derived from the Mott-Schottky effect, full anchoring of LiPSs, mediated Li2 S nucleation/dissolution, and bidirectionally expedited "solid⇌liquid⇌solid" kinetics can be harvested...

The tailings soil originating from an abandoned sulfur-iron mine in Sichuan Province, China, exhibits elevated concentrations of heavy metals (HMs) and possesses limited soil conservation capacity. Variability soil particle size fractions (PSFs) contributes to an increased risk of HMs ion migration. Existing research on HMs behavior has focused on the bulk soil scale, resulting in a dearth of comprehensive information concerning different particle sizes and colloid scales. We collected soil samples from upstream source (XWA), migration path (XWB), and downstream farmland (XWC) of an abandoned tailing and categorized into sand, silt, clay, colloid and dissolved, respectively...

Polysaccharides have unique physio-chemical properties and various biological functions and have rapidly expanded interest over the last two decades. The purification of polysaccharides and their degraded oligosaccharides is challenging because carbohydrates have no chromophore and need a proper detector to monitor the chromatographic elution process. This study proposed an active derivatization detection (ADD) method based on active splitting from post-column flow, a microchannel reactor for efficient derivatization of polysaccharide reducing sugars with p-hydroxybenzoic acid hydrazide, and in-line detection by the UV detector of liquid chromatography system...

In order to find optimization conditions, three factors including solid-to-liquid ratio (S/L) (0.2-0.01% (w/v), initial element sulfur (S0 ) (1-10 g/L), and initial pH (1-3) have been investigated. Based on response surface methodology (RSM) determined a significant reduced quadratic model with a p-value of 0.0022 (<0.05 significant level). BACKGROUND: Inappropriate matching of motor and sensory fibers after nerve repair or grafting can lead to nerve recovery failure. Identifying the motor and sensory fascicles enables surgeons to match them accurately and correctly align nerve stumps, which is crucial for neural regeneration. Very few methods have been reported to differentiate between the sensory and motor nerve fascicles, and the replicability of these techniques remains unestablished. In this study, we aimed to assess the accuracy of axonal cholinesterase (CE) histochemical staining in distinguishing motor and sensory nerve fibers...

Developing high-performance carbonaceous anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) is still a grand quest for a more sustainable future of energy storage. Introducing sulfur within a carbon framework is one of the most promising attempts toward the development of highly efficient anode materials. Sulfur-containing substances in sewers frequently incur unpleasant odors, corrosion-related economic loss, and potential human health concerns. These observations are principally attributed to microbial reactions, particularly the involvement of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in sulfur reduction process. As a multivalent element, sulfur engages in complex bioreactions in both aerobic and anaerobic environments. Organic sulfides are also present in sewage, and these compounds possess the potential to undergo transformation and volatilization...

Here, we measured the cysteine and methionine content of select soybean lines by high-performance liquid chromatography.
