Cytogenetic peculiarities of cell genesis in apical meristems of apomicts has been analyzed using a series of the Asteraceae species as an example. The extent to which aneu- and mixoploids are spread among plants in the investigated populations of the Asteraceae species is so high (up to 30-60% of the studied plants and their offspring), that it seems reasonable to suppose that their rise is a natural phenomenon. It has been shown that in the aposporous facultative apomict Pilosella officinarum microgametophyte is a relatively stable element of the seed reproduction system from the point of view of caryotypical variation...

Sugarcane hybrids are complex aneu-polyploids (2n = 100-130) derived from inter-specific hybridization between ancestral polyploid species, namely S. officinarum L. and S. spontaneum L. Efforts to understand the sugarcane genome have recently been enhanced through the use of new molecular marker technologies. A framework genetic linkage map of Louisiana's popular cultivar LCP 85-384 was constructed using the selfed progeny and based on polymorphism derived from 64 AFLP, 19 SSR and 12 TRAP primer pairs. Of 1,111 polymorphic markers detected, 773 simplex (segregated in 3:1 ratio) and 182 duplex (segregate in 77:4 ratio) markers were used to construct the map using a LOD value of ≥ 4...

Bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum Flüggé) is the predominant forage grass in the southeastern US. The commercially important bahiagrass cultivar 'Argentine' is preferred for genetic transformation over sexual diploid cytotypes, since it produces uniform seed progeny through apomixis. Pseudogamous apomictic seed production in Argentine bahiagrass may contribute to transgene confinement. It is characterized by embryo development which is independent of fertilization of the egg cell, but requires fertilization with compatible pollen to produce the endosperm...

The aim of the study was to reveal during 45 days consequences of ferromagnetic screening (FS) on the hematological and toxicogenomic indexes in rats. An express-method of nucleiod DNA content in blood by help fluorescent indication was used for alive quantitative evaluation of the toxicogenomic effects. The FS for both gender rats during 48 hrs resulted in both decreased magnetic field by 4-10 microT1 and leucopenia by 14 day of experiment. The aneu-/polyploidy index in male leucocytes was increased by 48 hr of FS and lasted out to 12-28 days after the screen removal...

Pollen-mediated gene transfer from stress tolerant or herbicide-resistant transgenic plants may cause environmental or agronomic problems. Apomictic seed production found in some bahiagrass cultivars may serve as a natural transgene containment system. Under greenhouse conditions, the average gene transfer frequency from an herbicide-resistant apomictic tetraploid to a population of sexual diploid bahiagrass genotypes or apomictic tetraploid bahiagrass was 0.16% when the transgenic pollen donor was placed at 0...

polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is characterized by panarteritis involving all layers of the vessel wall of medium and small arteries and adjacent veins leading to thrombosis and aneurysmal dilatation. We present the case of a 21-year-old Caucasian man with an acute abdomen with a massive gastrointestinal (GI) hemorrhage caused by a large intrahepatic aneurysmal rupture needing surgery. This was the initial manifestation of underlying PAN, which had not been diagnosed before the event. This patient's postoperative course was complicated by continued hemorrhage prompting further diagnostic abdominal arteriography, which revealed multiple art-eurysms along the superior mesenteric artery...

The most common aneuploidies in prenatal diagnostics of the second trimenon are trisomies of chromosomes 13, 18, and 21 and gonosomal abnormalities. To detect these trisomies as quickly as possible after amniocentesis, besides using polymerase chain reaction, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), applying corresponding centromeric or locus-specific probes, is the method of choice. Results of a rapid prenatal aneuploidy screening in uncultured amniocytes by using FISH are available within 24 hr or less...

The aneurysms of the celiac trunk are extremely rare. The authors describe a case of aneurysm of the celiac trunk dealt with aneu-rysmectomy and reconstruction by means of protesic graft made in Dacron. The patient was asymptomatic, and the aneurysm was discovered accidentally during abdominal computerized tomography (CT) for the stadiation of hepatic cirrhosis. The aneurysmectomy and the reconstruction have been executed by means of a prosthetic graft finish-terminal in Dacron, succeeding in preserving the three arteries originating from the celiac trunk (left gastric, hepatic, splenic)...

In chemical, fermentative and cellular model systems, cerebrolysin inhibited generation of superoxide anion-radical, nitrogen monoxide and final products of degradation of fatty acids. Other preparations showed both anti- and prooxidant effect. The most pronounced anticlastogenic activity during expriments on C...

Here we present our cut-off rates for and the way in which we handle the Aneu Vysion kit (ABBOTT/Vysis), based on the experience of 1200 studied cases. This study determines the effects of a water disinfection by-product, 3-chloro-4-(dichloromethyl)-5-hydroxy-2(5H)-furanone (also known as mutagen X or MX) and chlorinated tap water on genomic instability in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Tap water samples collected from Cherepovets (Russia) and Boston (MA, USA), were extracted using XAD absorption and ethyl acetate elution. MX and these water extracts were then tested for their ability to induce intrachromosomal recombination (deletions or DEL events), interchromosomal recombination (ICR) and aneuploidy (ANEU) using the yeast DEL assay...

Karyotypic destabilization in cells of Chinese hamster fibroblasts CHL V-79 RJK with ectopically overexpressed antiapoptotical human bcl-2 gene from pSFFV-bcl-2 vector has been analysed. Analysis of G-banded metaphase chromosomes from 4 clones with different levels of bcl-2 expression revealed an increased level of chromosomal instability in bcl-2-transfected cells. Besides, an increased percentage of aneu- and polyploid cells and high level of cells with different chromosomal aberrations was observed. The degree of karyotypic instability positively correlated with the level of bcl-2 expression in bcl-2-transfected cells...

Flow cytometry permits the quantitative description of neoplastic cell populations from the point of view of their cytogenetic and cytokinetic features. The advances in preparation of cellular monodispersed samples allow the examination not only of in vitro and hematological, but also of surgical, biopsy, endoscopic, and lavage specimens. The analysis of cytometric DNA content has evidenced the importance of (aneu)ploidy as a remarkable tumor marker. Tumors of different sites and, in some cases, stages and/or grades are characterized by a differential occurrence of diploid vs...

DNA analysis in meningiomas was performed using flow-fluorescence cytometry in 71 tumours. Three subcategories of rather small, medium-sized or clearly abnormal growth activities were evident in each of the fibroblastic, transitional and syncytial tumour types. These categories reflected grades 1, 2 or 3 of malignancy on a four-grade scale in which the primary fibroscarcomas of the meninges are grade 4. Richly vascularized (haemangioblastic) meningiomas of our series comprised only two subcategories: these included 7 tumours with slight signs of proliferation and 1 with increased growth, probably indicating a propensity to recur...
