Quaternary climatic oscillations have impacted Patagonian sigmodontine fauna, leaving traceable genetic footprints. In southern Chile, changes in the landscape included transitions to different vegetation formations as well as the extension of ice sheets. In this study, we focus on the Valdivian forest endemic and recently described sigmodontine species Abrothrix manni . We aim to assess the genetic structure of this species, testing for the existence of intraspecific lineages, and inferring the recent demographic history of the species...

The genus Spodoptera includes 30 species of moths considered important pests worldwide, with a great representation in the Western Hemisphere. In general, Noctuidae species have morphological similarities that have caused some difficulties for assertive species identification by conventional methods. The purpose of this work was to generate an approach to the genus phylogeny from several species of the genus Spodoptera and the species Bombyx mori as an out group, with the use of molecular tools. For this, a total of 102 S...

Immunosuppressive drugs, such as tacrolimus (FK506) and cyclosporine (CsA), play an essential role in graft survival, preventing rejection. Large interindividual differences in drug-metabolizing enzymes as well as in drug transporters make the task of reaching the optimal concentrations difficult. The bioavailability of CsA and FK506 seems to be associated with the cytocrhome P450 IIIA (CYP3A) gene. It has also been described that the Multi Drug Resistance 1 (MDR1) gene that encodes for polyglycoprotein-P (P-gp) may influence the metabolizing action of FK506 and CsA...

The incubation of methimazole (1-methyl-2-thioimidazole, MMI) with rat hepatic microsomes led to the formation of 3-methyl-2-thiohydantoin and N-methylimidazole. In addition, an NADPH-stimulated binding of 14C and 35S from [14C]- and [35s]MMI to microsomal macromolecules was seen. Both the NADPH-stimulated N-methylimidazole formation and binding of radioactivity from [14C]- and [35S]MMI to microsomal macromolecules appeared to be catalyzed largely by the cytocrhome P-450 to monoxygenase systems of rat hepatic microsomes...
