The tight junction protein claudin-7 is essential for tight junction function and intestinal homeostasis. Cldn7 deletion in mice leads to an inflammatory bowel disease-like phenotype exhibiting severe intestinal epithelial damage, weight loss, inflammation, mucosal ulcerations, and epithelial hyperplasia. Claudin-7 has also been shown to be involved in cancer metastasis and invasion. Here, we test our hypothesis that claudin-7 plays an important role in regulating colonic intestinal stem cell function. Conditional knockout of Cldn7 in the colon led to impaired epithelial cell differentiation, hyperproliferative epithelium, a decrease in active stem cells, and dramatically altered gene expression profiles...

Atypical chemokine receptor 4 (ACKR4), also known as CCX-CKR, is a member of the chemokine receptor family that lacks typical G protein signaling activity. Instead, ACKR4 functions as a scavenger receptor that can bind and internalize a wide range of chemokines, influencing their availability and activity in the body. ACKR4 is involved in various physiological processes, such as immune cell trafficking and the development of thymus, spleen, and lymph nodes. Moreover, ACKR4 has been implicated in several pathological conditions, including cancer, heart and lung diseases...

PURPOSE: Retinal sensitivity is frequently listed as an end point in clinical trials, often with long working practices. The purpose of this methods study was to provide a new workflow and reduced test time for in-depth characterization of retinal sensitivity. METHODS: A workflow for the MP3-S microperimeter with detailed functional characterization of the retina under photopic, mesopic, and scotopic conditions was evaluated. Grids of 32 and 28 test positions for photopic/mesopic and scotopic, respectively, were tested in 12 healthy individuals and compared with an established 68-point grid for test time, mean sensitivity (MS), and bivariate contour ellipse area (BCEA)...

Fungal pathogen " Neoscytalidium novaehollandiae " is the causal agent of trunk canker in mulberry trees. Mulberry is considered as most valuable tree for landscaping in Tehran. Here in, for the first time, chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs) were used to inhibit canker disease causal agent of mulberry. For this purpose, CSNPs were synthesized with a yield of 86%, and after characterization of the synthesized nanoparticles, the growth inhibition rate of fungus (GI%) was evaluated. The results of in vitro assays showed that the concentration of 1500 ppm significantly (P ≤ 0...

This study aimed to fabricate a series of biodegradable hydrogel films by gelating/physically crosslinking a blend of xanthan gum (XG) and chitosan (CS) in various combinations using a facile, green, and low cost solution casting technique. The adsorption of Cd2+ , Cu2+ and Ni2+ by the XG/CS biofilm in aqueous solution was studied in batch experiments to determine how the pH of the solution, contact time, dosage of adsorbent, initial metal ion concentration and ionic strength affect its adsorption. A highly pH-dependent adsorption process was observed for three metal ions...

OBJECTIVES: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease affecting the central nervous system. Immune cell subsets, notably T helper (Th) 17 and Th1, exert important roles in MS pathogenesis. Whereas, Treg cells modulate the disease process. Calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D, and curcumin, a bioactive compound derived from turmeric, play immunomodulatory effects relevant to autoimmune disorders, including MS.
