PURPOSE: Recent evidence suggests that age-accumulated methylmalonic acid (MMA) promotes breast cancer progression in mice. This study aims to investigate the association between baseline serum MMA concentrations in patients with breast cancer and the development of subsequent distant metastases. METHODS: We included 32 patients with early Luminal B-like breast cancer (LumB, median age 62.4y) and 52 patients with early triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC, median age 50...

INTRODUCTION: Upper urinary tract stones combined with parenchymal infiltrative renal pelvic cancer is challenging to detect on imaging, and to evaluate the differential diagnosis. CASE PRESENTATION: The symptoms and diagnoses in three cases of parenchymal infiltrative renal pelvic cancer and upper urinary tract stones that occurred between June 2019 and June 2022 were reviewed. Primary symptoms of lumbar discomfort and hemoturia were evident in all three patients...

BACKGROUND: On the fifth National Wilms Tumor Study, treatment for clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK) included combined vincristine, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, and etoposide (regimen I) plus radiation therapy (RT), yielding 5-year event-free survival (EFS) rates of 100%, 88%, 73%, and 29% for patients who had with stage I, II, III, and IV disease, respectively. In the Children's Oncology Group study AREN0321 of risk-adapted therapy, RT was omitted for stage I disease if lymph nodes were sampled, and carboplatin was added for stage IV disease (regimen UH-1)...

Breast cancer (BC) significantly impacts the quality of life (QoL) of affected individuals. This study, conducted at Colțea Clinical Hospital, Bucharest, aimed to assess the impact of organ failures and metastases on QoL in breast cancer patients using EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-BR45 questionnaires and the survival rate to understand the clinical journey and the quality of life status in breast cancer patients. From January 2019 to October 2022, a prospective, observational study surveyed 874 patients, revealing 201 fatalities, 66 refusals, and 607 eligible participants...

BACKGROUND: Brain metastases (BM) affect clinical management and prognosis but limited resources exist to estimate BM risk in newly diagnosed cancer patients. Additionally, guidelines for brain MRI screening are limited. We aimed to develop and validate models to predict risk of BM at diagnosis for the most common cancer types that spread to the brain. METHODS: Breast cancer, melanoma, kidney cancer, colorectal cancer (CRC), small cell lung cancer (SCLC), and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) data were extracted from the National Cancer Database to evaluate for the variables associated with the presence of BM at diagnosis...

A 53-year-old man with follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) was referred for renal scintigraphy using 99mTc-DTPA to assess the kidney function. Unexpectedly, the images showed an abnormal uptake of radiotracer in the right pelvic region. It corresponded to the site of metastasis in the right ilium revealed on 131I SPECT/CT images. The biopsy pathology of the ilium lesion demonstrated follicular thyroid cancer.

The implementation of primary tumor resection (PTR) in the treatment of kidney cancer patients (KC) with bone metastases (BM) has been controversial. This study aims to construct the first tool that can accurately predict the likelihood of PTR benefit in KC patients with BM (KCBM) and select the optimal surgical candidates. This study acquired data on all patients diagnosed with KCBM during 2010-2015 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Propensity score matching (PSM) was utilized to achieve balanced matching of PTR and non-PTR groups to eliminate selection bias and confounding factors...

The gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR) is known to be overexpressed in breast cancer, making it a promising target for both imaging and therapy within a theranostic framework. Various radioligands targeting GRPR have undergone investigation in preclinical and clinical studies related to breast cancer. This systematic scoping review aimed to assess the current evidence on GRPR-targeted radioligands for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in breast cancer. The methodology followed the PRISMA-ScR protocol...

Ankyrin repeat domain 52 (ANKRD52) is a regulatory component of the protein phosphatase 6 (PP6) holoenzyme. Evidence has emerged to suggest involvement of ANKRD52 in tumor metastases and cancer cell escape from T cell-mediated elimination and immunotherapy but there has been no research across different cancer types. The current study explored the biological functions of ANKRD52 by combining data from many databases. The aim was to expose new diagnostic or treatment biomarkers for malignant tumors. The roles of ANKRD52 with respect to immunotherapy in 33 human cancer types were analyzed by combining data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx), Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia (CCLE), UCSC Xena, the Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER), TISIDB and Cellminer...

Septic or aseptic loosening may cause bone loss around artificial prosthesis leading to prosthesis failure. This occurrence due to metastatic infiltration of bone or surrounding soft tissues is rare but has been occasionally reported. We report a case of an elderly lady presenting with swelling and pain at the site of previous hemiarthroplasty performed for traumatic injury. On evaluation, she was found to have a lytic femur lesion with a large soft-tissue component around the prosthetic joint. Biopsy suggested a metastatic carcinoma of renal origin, but screening of kidneys did not reveal any primary lesion...

Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common cancers in women and is a major cause of female cancer-related deaths. BC is a multifactorial disease caused by the dysregulation of many genes, raising the need to find novel drugs that function by targeting several signaling pathways. The antitumoral drug thymoquinone (TQ), found in black seed oil, has multitargeting properties against several signaling pathways. This study evaluated the inhibitory effects of TQ on the MCF7 and T47D human breast cancer cell lines and its antitumor activity against BC induced by a single oral dose (65 mg/kg) of 7,12-dimethylbenzanthracene (DMBA) in female rats...
