BACKGROUND: Although several techniques for the treatment of ulnar impaction syndrome (UIS) have been introduced, there have still been reports on various complications such as delayed union, nonunion, refracture, wrist pain, plate irritation, and chronic regional pain syndrome. This study aimed to compare the differences in radiological and clinical outcomes of patients in which intramedullary bone grafting was performed in addition to plate stabilization with those without additional bone grafting during ulnar shortening osteotomies (USOs)...

INTRODUCTION: Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is currently used for the management of pain of different origin, and since its inception, many waveforms have been developed. Some patients experience no pain relief already during SCS trial, while other patients go through a loss of efficacy due to habituation after a variable period of satisfying pain control. Our retrospective study represents the first report exploring the potential role of 10 kHz stimulation as rescue therapy for patients who did not benefit not only from conventional stimulation but even from other waveforms during SCS trial or follow-up...

Anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome (ACNES) is a cause of moderate to severe chronic pain, hyperesthesia/hypoesthesia, and altered perception of heat/cold in a specific region of the anterior abdominal wall, referable to the territory of innervation of one or more anterior branches of the intercostal nerves. None of the therapeutic options currently available has proved to be effective in the long term or decisive. In recent years, we have begun to treat purely sensory neuropathies, such as this, with the implantation of wireless peripheral nerve stimulators (PNS), achieving the safety of modular and personalized analgesia...

Deep gluteal syndrome (DGS) is a significant cause of posterior hip pain resulting from the compression of the sciatic or other peripheral nerves in the deep gluteal space. Understanding the anatomy of the deep gluteal space and the kinematics of the sciatic nerve, as it passes through this region is crucial for understanding DGS. Despite increasing awareness, DGS is still often overlooked. This review focuses on conditions that specifically contribute to posterior hip pain as a consequence of DGS. Predominantly addressing piriformis syndrome, gemelli-obturator internus syndrome, ischiofemoral impingement syndrome, and proximal hamstring syndrome, the review also touches upon rare cases such as inferior and superior gluteal nerve entrapment...

The aims of this review were to report the proportions of complications, compare likelihood of complications between interventions, and evaluate reporting of complications, including assessment, grading, management, and subsequent reporting of their impact on patient outcomes. METHODS: Extracted data included patient demographics, intervention details, complications, their management, and final outcomes...

Spasticity is a prevalent symptom of upper motor neuron syndrome, becoming debilitating when hindering voluntary movement and motor function and causing contractures and pain. Functional neurosurgery plays a crucial role in treating severe spasticity. Despite extensive literature on SDR for lower limb spasticity, there is a scarcity of papers regarding the procedure in the cervical region to alleviate upper limb spasticity. This case report details a cervical dorsal rhizotomy (CDR) performed for upper limb spasticity, resulting in significant improvement in spasticity with sustained outcomes and low complication rates...

This case report describes the use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) combined with sensorimotor training (SMT) to treat an individual with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) type 2 with allodynia of the right hand/wrist. After the 9-week intervention, there was a clinically meaningful reduction in pain intensity which continued to 3 months after intervention. Further, clinically meaningful improvements in wrist and hand function and allodynia were observed. Although the use of rTMS for CRPS has been reported, this unique report provides valuable insight into the clinical utility of rTMS plus SMT for the treatment of CRPS and related symptoms...

Pyomyositis is a bacterial infection deep within the muscles, often leading to multiple intramuscular abscesses. While historically linked with tropical regions, its incidence in temperate zones has been increasing, primarily due to factors such as immunosuppression. Typically, it manifests as a subacute infection, although when caused by Group C Streptococcus and resulting in toxic shock syndrome, it can lead to poorer outcomes. Here, we report a rare case of extensive multifocal bilateral pyomyositis in an immunocompetent young woman, preceded by toxic shock syndrome...

FBSS refers to symptoms and disabilities which remain or occur after lumbar spinal surgery. Prevalent treatments for FBSS are based mostly on conservative management while LLLT has gained significant interest in the treatment of a wide variety of musculoskeletal disorders. Regional anesthesia has shown to be successful in controlling major pain in trauma patients. However, the possibility of masking acute compartment syndrome (ACS) after peripheral nerve blocks for limb injuries is still controversially discussed. Therefore, we aimed to summarize the current literature regarding this topic to shed light on the impact of peripheral regional anesthesia on the diagnosis of ACS in trauma patients. We searched Pubmed, Google Scholar and the Cochrane Library for literature following the PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses) guidelines...

Minimally invasive oxygen-ozone (O2 -O3 ) therapy utilizing the biochemical effects of O2 -O3 mixture is commonly used in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. The literature dealing with O2 -O3 therapy of spinal pain focuses mainly on the lumbosacral region. The aim of this review is to evaluate the efficacy of O2 -O3 therapy in musculoskeletal pain in the neck region. The Medline (PubMed), SCOPUS, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases were searched for clinical studies, using the free text terms: ozone, neck, cervical, spine, pain, disc, hernia, nucleolysis, paravertebral, treatment, and various combinations of them...

Post-stroke complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) poses challenges in pain assessment for survivors. Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is a treatment, but evaluating its effectiveness is difficult for patients with communication limitations. Edema, a prominent symptom, can serve as an evaluation marker. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), assessing body composition and fluid status, is used independently of patient cooperation. This retrospective, observational pilot study aims to explore BIA's utility as an assessment tool post-SGB, revealing the effects and time courses of a single SGB on the bodily composition of post-stroke CRPS patients...

Quantifying saccadic eye movements can assist in identifying dysfunctional brain networks in both healthy and diseased people. Infrared Oculography is a simple and non-invasive approach to capturing and quantifying saccades, providing information that might aid in diagnosis and outcome assessments. The effect of spinal manipulation on quantified saccadic performance parameters has not been fully studied despite known post-manipulative effects on the brain and brainstem regions controlling them. This case study investigates spinal manipulation's immediate and long-term effects on saccadic eye movements by quantifying the saccades of a male patient diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome...

Pain can be a significant barrier to a stroke survivors' functional recovery and can also lead to a decreased quality of life. Common pain conditions after stroke include headache, musculoskeletal pain, spasticity-related pain, complex regional pain syndrome, and central poststroke pain. This review investigates the evidence of diagnostic and management guidelines for various pain syndromes after stroke and identifies opportunities for future research to advance the field of poststroke pain.
