Pt-based nanocomposites with low Pt utilization and high-activity by incorporating with other transition metals have received significant interest in catalysis. An efficient and rapid fluorescent nanoprobe is described for the determination of the aroma compound 4-ethylguaiacol (4-EG). A molecularly imprinted polymer was doped with a covalent organic framework (COF) grafted onto carbon nanodots that was prepared by one-pot reverse microemulsion polymerization. Amino groups at the surface of carbon nanodots coordinate to the COFs to produce a strong bond and this warrants thermal and chemical stability of the probe. We report a one-pot method for the facile synthesis of Pd@PtnL (nL denotes the number of Pt atomic layers) core-shell icosahedral nanocrystals. The success of this method relies on the use of Na2PdCl4 and Pt(acac)2 as the precursors to Pd and Pt atoms, respectively. Our quantitative analysis of the reduction kinetics indicates that the Pd(II) and Pt(II) precursors are sequentially reduced with a major gap between the two events. A Rh(III)-catalyzed reaction of N-methoxybenzamides and 4-diazoisochroman-3-imines is described. This method offers a rapid entry to 3-amino-4-arylisoquinolinone architectures from readily available starting materials under mild reaction conditions. A one-pot cascade C-H bond activation/formal [4 + 2] cycloaddition mechanism is proposed. The synthesized 3-amino-4-arylisoquinolinones can be conveniently converted into dibenzo[ c, f][1,8]naphthyridines.

Mechanochemistry has been applied for the first time to an iridium(I)-catalyzed C-H borylation reaction. Using either none or just a catalytic amount of a liquid, the mechanochemical C-H borylation of a series of heteroaromatic compounds proceeded in air to afford the corresponding arylboronates in good to excellent yield. A one-pot mechanochemical C-H borylation/Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling sequence for the direct synthesis of 2-aryl indole derivatives is also described. Novel rhombic dodecahedral SnS nanocrystals were prepared via a facile one-pot hydrothermal method for the first time, which exhibit a large extinction coefficient of 36.8 L g-1 cm-1 and a high photothermal conversion efficiency of 39.4% under irradiation with a 785 nm laser. Moreover, they show good performance for photothermal therapy of HeLa tumors.

A practical one-pot isoindolinone synthesis enabled by RhIII catalysis was developed. The advantage of this protocol is that it does not require pre-preparation of amide substrates, because RhIII participates in two reactions independently. This mild, operationally multicomponent process transforms a wide variety of commercially available aldehydes into the corresponding γ-lactams in good yields, thereby demonstrating that N-pyridin-2-yl benzamide is an effective directing group. A simple and efficient protocol for silver(i)-catalyzed tandem reaction of o-alkynylphenyl isothiocyanates with sodium azide has been developed, affording a series of 5H-benzo[d]tetrazolo[5,1-b][1,3]thiazines in moderate to good yields. Cycloadditions have emerged as some of the most useful reactions for the formation of polycyclic compounds. The carbonylative cycloaddition of triynes can lead to carbonylative and non-carbonylative competitive pathways, each leading to the formation of an aromatic ring. We report herein the one-pot synthesis of fully- and unsymmetrically-substituted tetracyclic 6,5,7,5-troponic and 6,5,6,5-benzenoid scaffolds using pre-organized triynes showing the competition between these two pathways.

Bifunctionalized indoles are an important class of biologically active heterocyclic compounds and potential drug candidates. Because of the lack of efficient synthetic methods, one pot cascade synthesis of these compounds is rare and remains a challenge.
