Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted attention from researchers in recent years. Monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) is the direct band gap two-dimensional crystal with excellent physical and electrical properties. Monolayer MoS₂ can effectively compensate for the lack of band gap of graphene in the field of nano-electronic devices, which is widely used in catalysis, transistors, optoelectronic devices, and integrated circuits. Therefore, it is critical to obtain high-quality, large size monolayer MoS₂...

We designed a high-sensitivity magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent that could be used to diagnose diseases. First, magnetic nanocrystals were synthesized by a thermal decomposition method on an organic solvent to obtain a high magnetism and methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(lactic acid) as an amphiphilic polymer using the ring-opening polymerization method to stably disperse the magnetic nanocrystals in an aqueous phase. Subsequently, the magnetic nanoclusters simultaneously self-assembled with methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(lactic acid) using the nano-emulsion method to form magnetic nanoclusters...

Three-dimensional nano-biointerfaces, emerging as significant cell-guiding platforms, have attracted great attention. Nevertheless, complicated chemical modifications and instability of bio-ligands limit their widespread application. In this study, a novel biointerface, based on silicon nanowires (SiNWs) array, was prepared for bacterial capture and sensing. Vertically aligned SiNWs were fabricated via metal assisted chemical etching and decorated with uniform Au@Ag core-shell nanoparticles (Au@Ag NPs). These deposited Au@Ag NPs formed multi-scale topographic structures with nanowires, which provided effective attachment sites for bacterial adhesins...

In this research contribution, nano-aggregates have been fabricated by introducing lanthanide (Ln3+ ) ions into solutions of amphiphilic diblock copolymers of polystyrene-b-poly (acrylic acid) (PS-b-PAA). The coordination of acrylic acid segments to lanthanide cations induces diblock copolymer (BCPs) self-assembly in order to design stable white luminescent hybrid nanoparticles with fine uniform particle size. The introduction of Ln3+ ions (Eu3+ and Tb3+ ) bestows the micelles, precisely white light, upon excitation of 342 nm...

Preserving ancient wall paintings from damage has become a challenge over the years. Nano-sized calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) has been identified as a promising material to preserve wall paintings. However, the synthesis of nano-sized Ca(OH)2 is extremely difficult. Here, we demonstrate a breakthrough of wall painting protection enabled by boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS)-through strategically synthesizing Ca(OH)2-BNNS nanohybrids using an aqueous method. BNNS has two significant functionalities in the design and implementation of the Ca(OH)2 nanomaterials...

Near-infrared (NIR)-responsive drug delivery systems have enhanced tumor ablative efficiency through permeation and retention effects. Graphene oxide (GO) has shown great potential both in photothermal therapy and in drug delivery. Thus, in this study, we designed an ambient spark-generated GO, wrapped on topotecan (TPT)-loaded hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSN-NH2-TPT-CGO), to function as an efficient platform for pH-dependent sustained release of TPT. HMSN-NH2-TPT-CGO also exhibited a combined chemo-photothermal effect within a single carrier system...

An electrochemical sensing chip with an 8 × 8 array of titanium nitride three-dimensional nano-electrodes (TiN 3D-NEA) was designed and fabricated via a standard integrated complementary metal oxide semiconductor process. Each nano-electrode in 3D-NEA exhibited a pole-like structure with a radius of 100 nm and a height of 35 nm. The numeric simulation showed that the nano-electrode with a radius of around 100 nm exhibited a more uniformly distributed electric field and a much higher electric field magnitude compared to that of the microelectrode...

In this work, mechanical alloying and electrical current-assisted sintering was adopted for in situ metal matrix composite material processing. Applied at the initial powder stage, mechanical alloying enables a homogeneous distribution of the starting elements in the proposed precursor powder blends. The accompanying precursor preparation and the structurally confirmed size reduction allow obtainment of a nanoscale range for the objects to be sintered. The nano precursors aggregated in the micro-sized particle objects, subjected to electrical current-assisted sintering, characterize the metal matrix composite sinters with high uniformity, proper densification, and compaction response, as well as maintaining a nanoscale whose occurrence was confirmed by the appearance of the highly dispersed reinforcement phase in the examined Ti-TiB material example...

Superresolution microscopy offers the advantage of imaging biological structures within cells at the nano-scale. Here we apply two superresolution microscopy techniques, specifically 3D structured illumination microscopy (3D-SIM) and direct stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (dSTORM), a type of single molecule localisation microscopy, to localise IRSp53 protein and its I-BAR domain in relation to F-actin within filopodia. IRSp53 generates dynamic (extending and retracting) filopodia 300 nm wide with a distinct gap between IRSp53 and F-actin...

A low-cost and facile method to synthesize highly crystallized VO2 (M1) particles is proposed, using carbon black as the reducing agent mixed with V2O5 nanopowders comparing two types of vacuum systems for the thermal activation. In a sealed vacuum system, CO gas is generated in the first reductive step, and continues to reduce the new born VO2, until all the V (+4) is reduced to V (+3), resulting in V2O3 formation at 1000 °C. In contrast, in a dynamic vacuum system, CO gas is ejected through pumping as soon as it is generated, leading to the formation of pure VO2 (M1) at high temperatures (i...

Immobilized enzyme micro-reactors (IMERs) are of vital importance in developing miniaturized bioanalytical systems and have promising applications in various biomanufacturing. An inherent limitation in designing IMERs is the one-dimensional cylindrical geometry of micro-channels that offers limited exposed surface area for molecular reorganization and enzyme immobilization. In this study, we report a robust capillary-IMER based on a three dimensional porous layer open tubular (3D-PLOT) column which is prepared by an easy-to-control surface modification strategy via single-step in situ biphasic reaction...

Combustion is a chemical reaction that emits heat and light. Nanofire is a kind of flameless combustion that occurs on the micro-nano scale. Pt/Al2 O3 film with a thickness of 20 nm can be prepared as a catalyst by micro-nano processing. When the methanol-air mixture gas passes through the surface of the catalyst, a chemical reaction begins and a significant temperature rise occurs in the catalyst region. Compared to macroscopic combustion, Nanofire has many special properties, such as large temperature gradients, uniform temperature distribution, and fast temperature response...
