A subclass of organic semiconductors known as conjugated polyelectrolytes (CPEs) is characterized by a conjugated backbone with ionic pendant groups. The water solubility of CPEs typically hinders applications of thin films in aqueous media. Herein, we report that films of an anionic CPE, namely CPE-K, drop cast from water produces single-component solid-state pseudocapacitive electrodes that are insoluble in aqueous electrolyte. That X-ray diffraction experiments reveal a more structurally ordered film, relative to the as-obtained powder from chemical synthesis, and dynamic light scattering measurements show an increase in aggregate particle size with increasing [KCl] indicate that CPE-K films are insoluble because of tight interchain contacts and electrostatic screening by the electrolyte...

As a typical pseudocapacitor material, VOx possesses mixed valence states, making it an ideal electrode material for symmetric screen-printed supercapacitors. However, its high internal resistance and low energy density are the main hurdles to its widespread application. In this study, a two-dimensional PANI@VOx nanobelt with a core-shell architecture was constructed via a two-step route. This strategy involves the preparation of VOx using a solvothermal method, and a subsequent in situ polymerization process of the PANI...

Crystal facet engineering is an effective strategy for precisely regulating the orientations and electrochemical properties of metal oxides. However, the contribution of each crystal facet to pseudocapacitance is still puzzling, which is a bottleneck that restricts the specific capacitance of metal oxides. Herein, α-MnO2 nanorods with different exposed facets were synthesized through a hydrothermal route and applied to pseudocapacitors. XRD and TEM results verified that the exposure ratio of active crystal facets was significantly increased with the assistance of the structure-directing agents...

As a pseudocapacitor electrode material, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2 ) usually shows inferior capacity, rate capability and cyclability. Structural regulation and heteroatom doping are the available methods to ameliorate the electrochemical properties of MoS2 . Herein, phosphorus doped molybdenum disulfide regulated by sodium chloride (SP-MoS2 ) is successfully synthesized using phosphomolybdate acid as a molybdenum source and an in situ dopant and sodium chloride (NaCl) as a structural regulator. Under the structural regulation of NaCl, the SP-MoS2 nanosheets exhibit an interweaved architecture with a large interlayer spacing of 0...

Pseudocapacitors promise to fill the gap between traditional capacitors and batteries by delivering reasonable energy densities and power densities. In this work, pseudocapacitive charge storage properties are demonstrated for two isostructural oxides, Sr2LaFeMnO7 and Sr2LaCoMnO7. These materials comprise spatially separated bilayer stacks of corner sharing BO6 units (B = Fe, Co or Mn). The spaces between stacks accommodate the lanthanum and strontium ions, and the remining empty spaces are available for oxide ion intercalation, leading to pseudocapacitive charge storage...

Transition metal oxide-based supercapacitors have attracted much attention due to their high theoretical specific capacitances. However, due to an insufficient utilization ratio and poor intrinsic conductivity of active materials, the rate performance of these electrodes is usually low. Herein, oxygen defect-mediated NiCo2 O4 nanosheets with enhanced electrical conductivity (1.9 S m-1 vs. 0.2 S m-1 of original NiCo2 O4 NSs) are fabricated using a post NaBH4 reduction strategy (denoted as r-NiCo2 O4 NSs). The derived r-NiCo2 O4 materials have sheet-like morphology, increased oxygen defects and low valence metal species, and an unprecedented rate capability comparable to that of carbon-based electrode materials, with a satisfactory capacitance of 1812 F g-1 and 91...

In the process of radiation therapy (RT), the cytotoxic effects of excited electrons generated from water radiolysis tend to be underestimated due to multiple biochemical factors, particularly the recombination between electrons and hydroxyl radicals (·OH). To take better advantage of radiolytic electrons, we constructed WO3 nanocapacitors that reversibly charge and discharge electrons to regulate electron transportation and utilization. During radiolysis, WO3 nanocapacitors could contain the generated electrons that block electron-·OH recombination and contribute to the yield of ·OH at a high level...
