Replacement of the toxic heavy element lead in metal halide perovskites has been attracting a great interest because the high toxicity and poor air stability are two of the major barriers for their widespread utilization. Recently, mixed-cation double perovskite halides, also known as elpasolites, were proposed as an alternative lead-free candidate for the design of nontoxic perovskite solar cells. The photocatalytic performance of layered double hydroxides (LDH) is usually confined to the slow interface mobility and high recombination rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs in material. To overcome the low photocatalytic efficiency, novel Ag2 O/Ag decorated LDH (LDH-Ag2 O/Ag) was successfully synthesized by depositing Ag2 O on the surface of LDH and then converted to Ag° nanoparticles in the right position after heat treatment. Radiocesium-bearing microparticles (CsMPs), consisting substantially of silicate glass, were released to the environment during the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in March 2011. Since the CsMPs were formed inside the damaged reactors during the accident, we investigate the inner structures of several CsMPs by transmission electron microscopy to understand the events within the reactors. Elemental mapping of the CsMPs shows a distinct radial distribution of Cs with a higher concentration near the surface of the CsMPs, implying that Cs was in a gaseous state in the reactor atmosphere and diffused into the glass matrix after formation of the glass particles...

In the past, common media for high-order harmonic generation (HHG) has been atoms and molecules. More recently, clusters, and nanoparticles have been introduced as HHG emitting media. A general one-pot approach is developed to synthesize a series of binary metal sulfide nanocrystals (NCs) including PbS, Cu2 S, ZnS, CdS, Ag2 S, and ternary CuInS2 and CdS:Cu(I) NCs. Facilitating the separation of photogenerated electron/hole pairs and widening the light-responsive region are crucial to enhance the overall photocatalytic performance of photocatalysts. To achieve this aim, here we have prepared Ag2 S/Bi4 Ti3 O12 heterojunction composite photocatalysts by assembling Ag2 S quantum dots onto the surface of Bi4 Ti3 O12 nanosheets. A photocatalyst with good electron-transfer property and wide spectrum response is of great interest. Herein, visible/NIR-light-driven Ag2 O nanoparticles (NPs) and UV/visible-responsive reduced TiO2 nanosheets (TiO2-x NSs) anchored onto reduced graphene oxide (rGO) forming Ag2 O@rGO@TiO2-x composites are synthesized in this study. Reaction of the heterometallic polymer [Au2 Ag2 (C6 Cl5 )4 (OEt2 )2 ] n with 4 equiv of pyridazine leads to the new discrete complex [Au2 Ag2 (C6 Cl5 )4 (μ2 -C4 H4 N2 )2 (C4 H4 N2 )2 ] (1). Understanding the interaction between silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and substances in aquatic systems enables Ag NPs to be better applied in science and industry. Moreover, it also could help us to determine the fate of Ag NPs and assess their hazards in aquatic environment. In this work, the interaction of Ag NPs with HCO3 - , ubiquitous ligand in aquatic systems, during long-term incubation was firstly studied and the possible mechanism was proposed. Results showed that the long-term incubation with HCO3 - led to the red-shifting of UV-vis spectra, the increasing of particles zeta potential (more negative), and the declining of the aqueous Ag+ concentration, as well as the decreasing in the toxicity of Ag NPs suspensions...
