INTRODUCTION: The number of systematic reviews of health economic evaluations (SR-HEs) is increasing. We aimed at providing a detailed overview of the characteristics and applied methods in recently published SR-HEs. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE (03/2017) for SR-HEs published since 2015 using validated search filters. We included studies that performed a systematic review of full economic evaluations and searched at least one electronic database. We extracted data in a standardized, beforehand piloted form that was deduced from the items of the PRISMA and CHEERS checklists...

Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is one of the most heritable medical conditions, and certain phenotypic characteristics are especially familial in BD. BD is also strongly associated with elevated and premature cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality. Thus, far, little is known regarding the familiality of cardiovascular risk in BD. We therefore examined the extent of CVD-related conditions among relatives of: adolescents with BD with a family history of BD (familial BD), adolescents with BD without a family history of BD (non-familial BD) and healthy controls (HC)...

Purpose: Attribution of ventilatory limitation to exercise when the ratio of ventilation ( V ˙ E ) at peak work to maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) exceeds 0.80 is problematic in pediatrics. Instead, expiratory flow limitation (EFL) measured by tidal flow-volume loop (FVL) analysis - the method of choice - was compared with directly measured MVV or proxies to determine ventilatory limitation...

The goal of this study was to evaluate using feed dilution/solids retention time (SRT) control to manage potential ammonia inhibition in highly loaded anaerobic digesters after thermal hydrolysis. The study compared three digesters operated at the same target volatile solids (VS) loading rate of 5.5 kg VS/d-m3 , but at different feed concentrations resulting in SRTs of 10, 15, and 18 days. Lowering the feed concentration decreased the digester total ammonia nitrogen concentrations which averaged 1,580, 2,610, and 3,080 mg <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www...

Air samples were collected at a semi-rural area between February 2013 and February 2014 to determine the concentrations and gas/particle partitionings of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The sampling was done with a high volume air sampler to cover four seasons and 40 samples were taken. Each sample period was about 24 h. The gas-particle partition coefficients (Kp ) of PAHs were calculated and correlated with their subcooled liquid vapor pressures ( P L 0 )...

Mammographic density is an important risk factor for breast cancer. In recent research, percentage density assessed visually using visual analogue scales (VAS) showed stronger risk prediction than existing automated density measures, suggesting readers may recognize relevant image features not yet captured by hand-crafted algorithms. With deep learning, it may be possible to encapsulate this knowledge in an automatic method. We have built convolutional neural networks (CNN) to predict density VAS scores from full-field digital mammograms...

Ovarian cancer has the lowest survival rate among all gynecologic cancers predominantly due to late diagnosis. Early detection of ovarian cancer can increase 5-year survival rates from 40% up to 92%, yet no reliable early detection techniques exist. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an emerging technique that provides depth-resolved, high-resolution images of biological tissue in real-time and demonstrates great potential for imaging of ovarian tissue. Mouse models are crucial to quantitatively assess the diagnostic potential of OCT for ovarian cancer imaging; however, due to small organ size, the ovaries must first be separated from the image background using the process of segmentation...

Background: Interventional exercises have been developed to help athletes improve scores on the Functional Movement Screen™ (FMS™). However, there is a paucity of research on the effects of a similar program in female athletes, as well as the effects of a standardized corrective exercise regimen. The purpose of this study was to assess whether an in-season, standardized interventional exercise program improves FMS™ score asymmetry and the composite score of female collegiate athletes...

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is generally believed to follow a chronic waxing and waning course. The onset of illness has a bimodal peak - in early adolescence and in early adulthood. Consultation and initiation of treatment are often delayed for several years. Studies over the past 2-3 decades have found that the long-term outcomes in OCD are not necessarily bleak and that at least half the treatment-seeking patients with OCD show symptomatic remission over long term. A short duration illness, of low severity that is treated early and intensively, with continued maintenance treatment over long term possibly has a good outcome...

Neurosurgery for psychiatric disorders (NPD) has been practiced for >80 years. However, the interests have waxed and waned, from 1000s of surgeries in 1940-1950s to handful of surgery in 60-80s. This changed with the application of deep brain stimulation surgery, a surgery, considered to be "reversible" there has been a resurgence in interest. The Indian society for stereotactic and functional neurosurgery (ISSFN) and the world society for stereotactic and functional neurosurgery took the note of the past experiences and decided to form the guidelines for NPD...

In the present work we explore the role of noise-binding energy (BE) interplay on the diamagnetic susceptibility (DMS) of doped G a A s quantum dot (QD). Gaussian white noise has been invoked for the above exploration. And Gaussian impurity acts as a dopant in the present study. The mode of inclusion of noise to the system significantly affects the above interplay and thus prominently modulates the DMS profile...

Perchlorate removal was tested in the cathode chamber of microbial electrochemical systems (MESs). Dual-chambers MESs were constructed and operated in batch mode with four kinds of cathode materials including Fe/C particles (Fe/C), zero valent iron particles (ZVI), blank carbon felt (CF), and active carbon (AC). Without external energy supply or perchlorate-reducing microbial pre-enrichment, perchlorate ( ClO 4 - ) removal could be achieved in the cathode chambers of MESs at different efficiencies...

Neurofeedback (NF) is referred to as a "possibly efficacious" treatment in the current evidence-based reviews; therefore, more research is needed to determine its effects especially in combination with other treatments. The present study examines the effect of NF and game-based cognitive training on children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Thirty-two male students with ADHD were assigned to NF (N = 16; Mage =10.20; SD = 1.03) and waiting list control (N = 16; Mage = 10...
