Lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (LnMOFs) have substantial potential in luminescence due to their unique antenna effect. Nevertheless, the single emission is susceptible to pseudo-signals caused by external environmental conditions, which significantly threaten the accurate measurement of the concentration. In this case, we prepared a dual-emission fluorescent probe {Eux Tb1-x (NH2 -BDC)3 (DMF)4 ·2DMF}∞ (NH2 -BDC = Diaminoterephthalic acid, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide). The stable dual-emission signal provides a superior signal output for detecting nitrofurazone (NFZ), which is detected by the probe with excellent fluorescence for 0-10 μM NFZ...

Marine periphytic ciliates play a pivotal role in shaping coastal ecosystems dynamics, thereby acting as robust biological indicators of aquatic ecosystem health and functionality. However, the understanding of the effects of veterinary antibiotics on composition and structure of periphytic ciliate communities remains limited. Therefore, this research investigates the influence of the veterinary antibiotic nitrofurazone on the community dynamics of marine periphytic ciliates through bioassay experiments conducted over a one-year cycle...

A very common reaction, N -benzylation of isatoic anhydride in the presence of sodium hydride base, produces byproducts. The yield of one of the byproducts was greater than that of the desired product; therefore, we identified the anonymous undisclosed structure of the byproduct using sequential spectroscopy methods and SC-XRD. This byproduct was found to be effective as a wound-healing and anti-inflammatory agent. The 10% formulation of byproduct and standard (nitrofurazone) showed complete wound closure with a large number of cell migrations within 16 days...

WLEDs have been widely used in lighting and display equipment due to their energy-saving and environment-friendly advantages, but it is still a great challenge to construct high-quality single-phase white light materials for the preparation of WLEDs. In this work, three Ln-MOFs (HNU-82-84) with the same structure were synthesized by assembling rare earth ions (Tb3+ , Eu3+ , La3+ ) and 4,4',4''-nitrilotribenzoic acid (H3 TCA) ligands. The structure and optical properties of the three compounds were investigated...

Recognition of the microbial cell's surface constituents' biophysical properties is an important research topic, allowing a better understanding of the cell's behaviour under different conditions. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was employed in this study to analyse the basis of the nanomechanical changes in probiotic bacteria under nitrofurantoin, furazolidone, and nitrofurazone exposure. Recorded significant changes in the two Lactobacillus strains cells morphology, topography, and adhesion parameters resulted in the increase of the cells' longitude (up to 2...

Two-dimensional metal-organic framework (MOF) composites were produced by incorporating Fe-MOFs into reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets to form Fe-MOF/rGO composites by hydrothermal synthesis. SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, and measurements of contact angles were used to characterize the composites. TEM studies revealed that the rod-like-shaped Fe-MOFs were extensively dispersed on the rGO sheets. Incorporating Fe-MOF into rGO significantly improves performance due to the large surface area, chemical stability, and high electrical conductivity...

Catheter-associated urinary tract infections are one of the most common hospital-acquired infections. Encrustation formation results from infection of urease-producing bacteria and further complicates the situation. A typical sign of the initial onset of encrustation formation is the alkalization of the urine (pH up to 9-10). However, effective antibacterial strategies with high antimicrobial loading efficiency and pH-responsiveness of antimicrobial release are still lacking. In this study, we developed a poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate)-tannic acid (polySBMA-TA) hydrogel coating, which served as a universal, efficient, and responsive carrier for antimicrobials on urinary catheters...

Nitrofurazone (NFZ) is an antibiotic banned in many countries, as its residue seriously harms the human body. Herein, anti-NFZ aptamers were selected and identified based on the magnetic bead SELEX technique using a ssDNA library with a full length of 90 nucleotides (nt). Five full sequence candidate aptamers (NFZ8, NFZ24, NFZ28, NFZ34, and NFZ70) were obtained by secondary structure analysis. We optimized the entire sequence to obtain a truncated aptamer, a 16 nt sequence (NFZ8-1:5'-GTTCTATTGAAAAAAC-3') that showed the highest affinity for NFZ (Kd  = 76...

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is important in equine reproduction, as antimicrobials have historically been widely used in the management of breeding mares. However, evidence of the characteristics of AMR in uterine isolates is limited in the UK. The objective of this retrospective study was therefore to describe temporal changes in AMR patterns of bacteria isolated from the endometrium of Thoroughbred broodmares in south-east England between 2014 and 2020. METHOD: Endometrial swabs were processed for microbiology and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST)...

Frequent false-positive events of SEM have brought great trouble to the aquatic industry in international trade. In this paper, the situation of endogenous SEM in aquatic products was investigated, and the possible mechanism of amino acid conversion into SEM was studied by establishing a simulated oxidation system and a urea system. The results revealed the presence of endogenous SEM in the muscle tissue of shrimps, and the content of SEM ranged from 0...
